Sure, some of them were *also* witches, but that was entirely coincidental. (For the sake of clarity, I made this made up. I'm sure they were just lovely old ladies with odd fashion sense)

The Fake History Hunter@fakehistoryhunter.net

"Not a modern witches' council - but members of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Castle Rising, Norfolk, England sometime in the 1920s."

Vodafone chat system is cunning. The queue is 15 minutes long, but it auto disconnects after 6 minutes. It means the "customers queuing" stat and "average queue time" never looks that high, despite enraging thousands.

There's no "could be" here. It's going to be barely a driveable vehicle, flight time will be a handful of seconds at best, and no country will ever allow it on a public road or airspace. None will ever be sold. It's vapourware (cold-gas jet pun intended).

In true Musk fashion, the flying Tesla Roadster may just be a giant publicity stunt—like the time in 2016 he claimed he would send humans to Mars by 2024.

Breaking news: One super rich man who interferes in politics complains about a different super rich man who interferes in politics.

Elon Musk has mockingly referred to India’s richest person as “Prime Minister Ambani” and has suggested that the billionaire is blocking Starlink’s launch in the country.

Trying to set up new bank app. So far I've photo'd IDs, filmed a mugshot, called call centres and given my life history, sacrificed two goats and handed my soul over to the Ones That Came Before. Still can't get in.

There's a little over a month to go to get your entries into the South Downs Photo Competition. Our judges are looking for serene images, showing the South Downs in its glory over winter, spring, summer and autumn. Get your entries in before 31 October. Full info: buff.ly/3WwydBY 👀 📸: Ben Moore

You did nothing wrong. Holding the button did not work for you, for you did not know the correct supplications and curses to please the machine spirit. Plumbers, electricians, computer technicians and mechanics are trained in the arcane arts, and things self-repair before their focus.

I just called the emergency plumber out to press the reset button on the boiler because I clearly can't count to 30 properly. He had to move lots of my expensive DIY tools to do this.

But what do you do when you need to do a hard reset on the hard reset robot arm?

WIRED@wired.com

The company is testing robots that can swap cables, reset servers, and take on other tasks performed by technicians, fueling concerns among some workers that their jobs could be at risk. www.wired.com/story/inside...

A cool job, but not as cool as the one from New Forest National Park for a "Ranger, north area". I'd absolutely be using "The Ranger of The North" on my email signature. #LOTR

We're hiring a Woodland Agent 🌳 You'll play a key role in delivering the South Downs Woodland Carbon Project. This project, delivered in partnership with National Parks Partnerships and Legal & General, aims to create more than 500 hectares of new woodland across the National Park. [1/2]

I went to a museum recently and looked as some art that was nearly 1000 years old. It's unlikely to date *that* fast.

I want to repost art from my Japanese artist friends to give them more exposure The problem is that due to time zones they’re usually posting while I’m asleep

It *could*, but we all know that it won't. They will sell for as much as the publishers think people will pay, even if the costs are lower.

Killing PlayStation discs could make PS Store games cheaper, according to a former Square Enix exec. https://bit.ly/4hGUu41

Put out the food waste recycling bin. The whole thing was a wriggling, pulsating mass of tiny maggots. I'm totally using this for a #LitRPG mob.

This used to be pretty standard. You could buy a kit with some thin metal and two big jubilee clips to patch the rusted through exhaust on your Capri.

Writing a #LitRPG style book, and getting money right is hard. Ended up with a big spreadsheet with automated conversion to daily wages and weird searches like "how long would it take to make a bucket by hand?"

Yes, another specialist kitchen device you will use once, then have it sat in the back of a cupboard for the next 20 years until you forget what it's meant to do. You almost certainly have to buy a specific cheese too!

Our Wirecutter testers think this cheesy contraption belongs at every party. Read writer Maki Yazawa's review on the medieval-looking cheese cutter that “provides boundless entertainment for my inquisitive guests." nyti.ms/4aRHBQb

Gaming can be expensive, but if you turn it into "entertainment hours" it's much cheaper than many other hobbies

Hit Save!@hitsave.org

We're talking about $80 games today, huh? It's steep to be sure, but let's not forget...it's not exactly new! Images courtesy of the Aug/Sept 97 issue of the Electronics Boutique catalog in @gamehistoryorg.bsky.social's library! library.gamehistory.org/repositories... But hold on, we're not done!

Southern Water is letting down Southampton residents yet again. This time in St Denys, again, with the odour so bad this week that people are unable to open their windows - a huge problem during the heatwave. Read my letter to the Southern Water CEO. 👇🏾

I am terrible at remembering names. A popup name labelling system would be a AR glasses killer app for me. Bonus points for appropriate small talk points list.
