Thread Nebula update #22 I'd put it down for the summer because I didn't want it to get grubby from me sweating on it. Back to it! This is going to be the Pillars of Creation in the Eagle Nebula, in cross-stitch #crafting #crossstitch #astronomy

A white-tailed jackrabbit in Salt Wells Creek: normally I have to act quick to get a shot at these lil guys before they scamper away but this one just....hung around with me. I had to make myself leave the scene before I fill my camera storage entirely with jackrabbit. #photography #wildlife

Black stallion in Sand Wash Basin: BLM just did a roundup of this herd in their accelerating effort to mostly eradicate wild horses on US public lands because almost-all of the available forage is never enough for livestock grazing lease holders. #photography #wildhorses

I don't know this herd well enough to know what his name is and whether he and his band avoided the helicopters and transport trucks or if they were returned after being captured or if they are now living in a bleak wild horse warehouse corral.

These two cuties - a mare and her almost-yearling filly - are part of a free-roaming band of horses in the town of Ruidoso, New Mexico #photography #wildhorses

This gal is one of the Shawnee Creek herd members in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, chilling along the banks of the Current River on a summer day. #photography #wildhorses

In Theodore Roosevelt National Park one summer morning, Arrowhead's band stands together on this ridge to catch the breeze and swish flies together. #photography #wildhorses

In the Heber herd in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, a stallion checks in with one of the smaller members of his band. #photography #wildhorses

I think that since last I saw them, Johnny's Star has ditched Dewey for her pals in the developed area of Assateague Island but this is a set of images from last fall, with her yearling Peytona Star. #photography #wildhorses

Muddy Creek Falls tumbles over this bluff as the creek makes its way to meet the Youghiogheny River in Swallow Falls State Park in western Maryland. #photography

Lost Creek stallion Looking Glass: if you're on insta stay tuned with Wild Horse Photography Collective as next week we have a takeover with Carol Walker who will share her knowledge of the Red Desert herds as yet another BLM roundup approaches. (link in first comment) #photography #wildhorses

A Sable Island stallion is working HARD to shift his mares away from the gaze of another stallion, he was so frustrated and finally lit a fire under them to move. #photography #wildhorses

A sandhill crane soars over the marsh at Whitewater Draw, looking down for a moment to squawk at all the cranes gathered on the ground. #photography #birbs #wildlife

For Foal Friday, a scene from Lost Creek, from my visit a couple years ago. The BLM has scheduled a roundup/removal for the Red Desert complex, of which Lost Creek is one of the HMAs. These beauties are probably going to lose their freedom. #photography #wildhorses

#booksky Finally got "Ode to the Half Broken" by @zanzjan.bsky.social from my library and it was SO worth the wait! I loved these characters so much and I guess it's possible for a novel to be both cozy and postapocalyptic at the same time. bookshop.org/p/books/ode-...

A vermilion flycatcher, a bit wet from making multiple splashy cannonball dives into a nearby water feature to take a really thorough bath. Sweetwater Wetlands, Arizona #birbs #wildlife

The Sand Wash Basin roundup/removal is starting this week, focusing first as I understand it on the out of bounds bands who live outside of the boundary fence. #photography #wildhorses

The current configuration of Assateague Island's state line band: half sisters Coco and Sapphire, and stallion Foxy's Gift. I met up with them on this very very buggy summer day. Poor Coco was getting hit the worst with the deer flies. #photography #wildhorses

Thanks to the spreadsheet I just created I have figured out that I've read 144 Star Trek novels, out of about 836 total novels (and a few short story collections) available. That doesn't include the comics, which maybe I'll get to after all the novels.

I file grackles within the sassy bird classification, and as such they are some of my favorites. This character is a boat tailed grackle, in Assateague State Park. #photography #birbs
