I’ve had a few people tell me to message them with who to vote for. On the one hand I’m glad they trust me & see our values aligning; on the other hand, is this encouraging disengagement? #MunicipalElections #ONpoli

Today, I was out canvassing for David Alton for Kitchener mayor & Anna Meksavanh for Region Councillor. Usually it’s the younger folks who are apathetic but I found on today’s route the older folks were the ones saying they wouldn’t bother. They definitely felt defeated. #WRpoli #WatReg

Sharing Olivia’s message: “Brad Bradford wants to hand over control of our water system to Doug Ford and open the door to privatization. Toronto's drinking water isn't up for grabs, Brad. Hands off!” #ONpoli

I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole. Reading up on the Ontario Water Corporations bill so I can answer questions for others. Extremely disappointed to see City of Kitchener submitted comment in FAVOUR of it during consultation. #ONpoli

I’m looking at my LinkedIn profile. Something I do once or twice a year when I go to the site. There’s an entire job (TA) when I was in grad school that I can’t bring up any memories of. I know I did it but not a single memory…

I went doorknocking for a candidate today. A lot of “no answer” (even when I could see them). I get it - people keep to themselves a lot more these days. Had a couple interesting conversations. I still don’t understand people who vehemently say they won’t vote in municipal elections.

Went to city hall today to see election financials from 2022. Woowee big developers really do like to donate to municipal candidates. Even if they live an hour or more away. (Note donation cap is $1200 but sometimes 2-3 members of a family donate the limit)

This is not an endorsement but check out Kitchener Ward 1 Scott Davey’s website. He includes little animations for fire, roadworks, snowplows. Sdavey.ca

I was looking for the 2022 municipal election candidate financials today. Some municipalities in the Region of Waterloo make it really easy. Some do not. Also learned City of Waterloo doesn’t have a general email.

If you are voting in the city of #waterloo, please do your research on all the candidates. You will find that mayoral candidate Shannon Weber and her husband, Dan Weber, who ran for the PC's in 2018, are both long term, faithful members of Doug Ford's corrupt party.

Truly standing room only at the Waterloo Mayor all candidate meeting. Unfortunately candidates are not on a raised platform; they have been asked to stand when speaking. #wrvotes #waterloo

Mayor McCabe has a cold but is here. For taxes she doesn’t believe in raising them but also doesn’t want to cut services. Seek effieciencies through technology and shared procurement. #WRvotes

Shannon Weber says taxes have gone up much more compared to Kitchener & Waterloo. Says will keep taxes to inflation and focus on critical infrastructure & services. #WRvotes

The tax question. Jamie Hari says change how we tax (higher value homes pay more). Jerry Jiang says he didn’t fill out surveys because they force a binary. “Taxes aren’t a yes or no” solution. #wrvotes

I’m going through mayoral candidate sites and one promises a pet-friendly city with more dog parks. Trying hard to not let this one promise bias me 🐕🐕🐕🐶

I’m trying to get fellow unionists to assist canvassing for a candidate. I sent my email in late afternoon and only 1 person has signed up (& she was working with me on it already). Hoping everyone is a morning email reader.

I helped my aunt deliver her election signs last weekend. The app she’s using emails me every time someone requests one.

I don’t need these notices. Email says to change notifications in settings but option literally doesn’t exist. I guess it’s fine knowing people want to support my aunt (Lois Ward in London Ward 10)💚

At a town hall about water and the risk of privatization. Discussing Bill 98 and how public ownership and public operation is not the same. #watreg #kitchener

Disturbing to hear how our democracy is being undermined bit by bit, particularly with strong mayor powers & the provincial appointment of our Regional chair who will have those powers.

About 2.5 hrs to go. No word yet on progress this evening.

The clock is ticking for the Region of Waterloo and the union representing about 850 full-time office and clerical workers to come to an agreement and avoid a strike. www.therecord.com/news/waterlo...

👋🏼 Hey, Kitchener! Our team has been knocking on doors all summer, hearing your priorities and ambitions for our community. On October 26, #VoteMatt for Regional Council so we can continue working together to build a responsive and affordable Kitchener!

“Cambridge has never bulldozed encampments” (gasps&scoffs from audience ) “if you’re going to heckle me come up front” - Jan Liggett, talking how support for addiction & mental health support is needed, not shelter beds. #WRvotes

Something I’ve heard before - Cambridge is the second largest municipality in the Region of Waterloo so why don’t they get the 2nd most representation on council? #WRvotes

Tony Chaves says Cambridge needs less politics, more community. And aims to more affordable living for all. #WRvotes

At another town hall - Cambridge mayoral candidates. I already know who I’d vote for if I lived in Cambridge (here on behalf of Union). Also it’s disappointing only one of six candidates is a woman. As we know, gender alone doesn’t indicate political beliefs. #WRvotes

Candidate Ken Roche is an RMT and also blind. Hilarious comment about holding conversations with people “in their underwear or less”. Well, being able to speak to people is a valuable skill for mayors. 😆 #WRvotes

Doug Craig said WRPS is underfunded (per 1000 residents) when compared to comparable sized cities. Pam Wolf calls for police to work with social services given 8000+ calls are for intimate partner violence. #WRvotes #CambridgeON

At another town hall, this time for Cambridge Regional Councillors. I may have to leave and watch online as there is a strong scent here - maybe cologne, maybe floor cleaner.

At the all candidate meeting for Kitchener regional councillors (11 for 4 spots). Certainly a variety of opinions and views. I think the question i submitted was edited so it didn’t quite get at what I was trying to understand but that’s okay, still insightful. #WRpoli #watreg

I visited the St Jacobs library today. It is so quaint and the librarian there is a real cool guy. Had to pick up a hold since I’m not at library admin for the next 6 weeks.

Sharing as Ontario municipal elections are just over 5 weeks away & we’ve had some recent close calls. I want to see all you Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge folks out at the polls! #WRvotes #watpoli

Okay, so someone (well meaning! not gonna quote tweet because I'm not trying to send them hate!) said the equivalent of "but I draw the line at people trying to get others to not vote in close Senate contests."

I’ve been busy tying up things at work and training coworker to do my role. Taking a two month “leave” to work for my union as municipal election support. I start that next Tuesday! #wrpoli #WRvotes2026 #WatReg

Today was my one afternoon every 2 months that I work in a branch. Randomly & surprisingly, a former coworker and friend from Toronto walked into the library. She was on her way to Stratford theatre and detoured to see a Carnegie library. Haven’t seen her in years!

I rarely remember the word “carabiner” and only come up with “harbinger” when searching my mind. The ‘bin’ syllables aren’t even pronounced the same.
