Oh goody, they’re going to overrule Wickard v. Filburn, aren’t they? I can practically hear Randy Barnett’s squeals of glee from here.

Serious question, because all I can think of from him is punditry and fundraising emails: Has Carville actually contributed meaningfully to a major Democratic victory in this century?

The Tennessee Holler @thetnholler.bsky.social

🤔 James Carville: “I’d rather Republicans keep the house by 5 than Dems win by 5… Because then they’re hostage to DSA, and Hakeem can’t move.” 😬Bill Kristol: “Good point.” So afraid of DSA folks who want M4ALL, etc. they’d rather Republicans hold power. Unreal. True colors.

I understand this quote of his is coming from a place of rich-white-guyness and he will never personally suffer the effects of an unchecked Trump for another two years, but why is he giving a quote at all? Does he actually do anything but fill airtime and spam inboxes?

What are the odds that he’ll see this article and, as a result, we’ll get another anti-LGBTQ executive order and Harmeet Dhillon will launch an inquisition into how gays in the media are a Civil Rights Act violation?

Scott Horton@robertscotthorton.bsky.social

NYT publishes an article about Trump's homoerotic exclamations, offering no explanation of what this means to psychiatrists and failing to observe that this as been going on for a decade now. In other words, more sane washing.

The first rule of political comms is to never let yourself become the story.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Wow -- Hannity is moving in for the kill: "Why not just say 'I went to Pepperdine Law School and then took a different career path'? Why get into this long drawn-out thing about the difference between a lawyer and an attorney?"

Two facts have been bugging the ever-loving shit out of me lately: (1) Nobody on any side thinks the way the federal government is operating is actually working well. (2) The last time someone proposed a constitutional amendment that went on to be ratified was 1971.

I was born in 1982. My entire adult lifetime has been one political crisis after another, and the best we ever try for is changing who sets the agenda when we should be trying to change the system. When you’ve had 26 straight years of only short-term fixes, that’s a long-term problem.

If the raid against Ilhan Omar was legitimate, it would have been the FBI and not HSI doing it. HSI is part of ICE, and Trump’s racist goon squad is not a legitimate law enforcement agency. Why is DHS raiding members of Congress? Because DHS is corrupt as shit.

“The people who came to my shows — students, retirees — were more courageous in their daily lives while I was becoming more cowardly. …My first day in the cell, I slept the best sleep of my life.”

It’s not surprising that the Catholic Church is so adamantly against the death penalty. Heck, this guy killed the pope and they didn’t even excommunicate him.

And he was worried that there wouldn’t be any memorials to him!

A new statue titled “The Orange Plague”, also known as “King of Injustice”, by Danish artist Jens Galschiøt has been unveiled inside the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, where it will remain through 8 October. Remember to stop by for a selfie if you have a chance. 😏📸

Some of the important context here includes that we have in this country (1) a constitutional guarantee of a free press, and (2) a wino U.S. Attorney for DC who, on this asshole’s orders, previously brought flagrantly unlawful criminal cases against six Democratic lawmakers and an innocent tourist.

I don't mean to make waves or anything, but as a journalist, I am definitely opposed to the president talking about arresting journalists.

I mean, it’s kind of refreshing to see such overt class solidarity.

This thread terrifies me. I’m a member of the Connecticut Lottery’s board of directors, which means I am a regulator for gambling systems. These digital betting platforms terrify me, including the ones I help oversee. My most basic concern is maintaining fairness…

ProPublica@propublica.org

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

…which is one reason I would never spend a penny on prediction markets like Kalshi, which are built for insiders to game and take money from compulsive gamblers. But the dangers of algorithmically-prompted gambling are as impossible to ignore as they are difficult to regulate. We need federal law.

Still can’t get over Tammy Duckworth’s new Durbin-esque schtick. “Trump’s unpopular, incompetent, and committing countless crimes, so we better find a way to work with him and forget about impeachment.”

Around 28 years ago, on the first day of his internship, my sister’s then-boyfriend was asked to introduce himself to his coworkers and say a little about himself. After the meeting, his new boss asked him to stay back and showed him a tally sheet. Each mark represented a time he had said “like.”

It was a *big* number. And while that boss was engaging a bit in what I call “helpful dickishness,” I took the intended lesson to heart as soon as I heard about it. In retrospect, I’m very glad that (a) I learned this early in high school, and (b) this happened to someone else.

Either he knows this is false and is lying about 9/11 to boost his own image, or he actually believes this happened. I leave it to you to decide which is worse in a sitting president.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump claims he was basically lifted out of the rubble on 9/11: "Two fireman, big strong guys, they grabbed me under the arms -- 'got to get our of here!' -- and they literally lifted me up, and they started running with me."

“The most credible person in the world” has been convicted of fraud, found liable for defaming his rape victim, is demonstrably innumerate, and lies about everything all the time. But go on, Howie. You were saying?

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: Why not just put Trump's name on the building in two years after the renovation is done? Isn't that usually how it works? LUTNICK: Actually, that's not usually how it works. When you have the greatest philanthropist, you just need him to agree. He is the most credible person in the world.

When your government says it’s planning to open multiple prisons that will house up to 3,000 children, it’s time to demand a new government. There is no context in which this is legitimate or acceptable.

Two things that HAVE to be stressed here: 1. PDs widely adopted Flock’s boilerplate terms of service rather than developing or going to elected officials to develop tailored policies for use; and 2. Those boilerplate terms allow Flock to make “upgrades to system or platform” as they see fit.

Dhruv Mehrotra@dmehro.bsky.social

NEW: Flock has said for years its cameras don’t identify or track people. We obtained the code for its police AI and rebuilt parts of it. The tool can find witnesses, surface associates, search people by race or physical description, and flag vehicles by how they move. W/ @dell.bsky.social

It should be a bigger scandal that Donald Trump and the Senate Republican Caucus put this coke-addled imbecile in charge of health policy despite him being so, so fucking dumb. Like Tuberville dumb.

This is a very dangerous lunatic. RFK Jr: “The polio vaccine "killed many, many more people" than polio ever did.”

The ghost of Elliot Richardson would like a goddamn word.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

WELKER: Would you take the president's opinion into consideration when he says 'I think this case should be revived?" TODD BLANCHE: Hold on. Will I take the president's view on something into consideration? Yes. Of course. And I hope every AG in history would not answer that question differently.

This is possibly the most Boomer shit ever excreted.

Roy Edroso@edroso.bsky.social

As has long been observed, Tubby loves getting away with it. He's excited now about his new milestone: Fucking the U.S. military. He was tickled when he called them suckers and losers and the MAGA rubes didn't care. Now he's gonna ruin actual naval vessels! talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/trump...

Q: The family members of US service members are concerned about the conditions on the USS Lincoln TRUMP: No they're not Q: Has the deployment gone on too long? TRUMP: No no no. Not nearly long enough.

First the USS Gerald R. Ford, now the USS Abraham Lincoln. The last person to do as much damage to our carrier fleet as Trump, Hegseth and Cao have done was Yamamoto.

Good time to remember that we don’t have a Surgeon General right now because this addled rapist couldn’t be assed to nominate an actual doctor, since he couldn’t find one stupid or craven enough to agree with the mind-numbing idiocy that drips from his mouth like drool from a drunk shar-pei.

Listen, I don’t know how else to put this, but if RFK Jr. isn’t using again, something is extremely wrong and he needs to see a neurologist yesterday.

He withheld evidence from DOJ, contributing to the wrongful prosecution of an innocent man. Impeach his ass already.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

BASH: But it peeled off. Why did that happen? BURGUM: It didn't peel off. There was vandalism. There was box cutters. There have been 7 arrests. BASH: There are photographs of people cutting a 350 foot gash in the reflecting pool? BURGUM: Dana, I'm not sure why you keep questioning it

She owes the exonerated defendant a major apology and the country an immediate resignation. Drunk-ass disgrace.

I’m not sure how many more ways Elon Musk needs to say he wants to murder us for people to start recognizing that he’s a homicidal maniac, but we have to be getting close, right?

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Elon Musk, owner of X, has called the editor of the Economist "a traitor to the West, plain and simple" after her recent interview with him. He now argues that "anyone who opposes remigration is a traitor" Musk has been socialising violence since Aug25: "fight or die, that's what it comes down to"

Since I heard the news I’ve had John Kerry stuck in my head. “How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?”
