It’s just wild how regulations are mostly there for a valid reason. It’s like, if there’s a sign telling people not to do it, someone did that.

JUST POSTED: Today at The NYT we are publishing a major investigation into how President Trump used his executive powers to expose millions of Americans to greater cancer risks. A six month-long investigation built on more than 10,000 pages of FOIA records. Read it www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/c...

Who went through all the major platforms where the Pentagon might stream their barbaric firing squad "livestream" execution to see if it violated their policies? Me. I did it.

We all wanted to chip in on a gravestone for Jim. He was an upright, hard-working member of our community, and we honor him even though he lived among us just a short time. Anyone catch Jim’s last name while he was with us? #genealogy #familyhistory #michigan #cemeteries

People crap on LLMs, but I used one over the last few weeks to help me build a wicked dashboard for my #genealogy business. It includes client tracking, account register, bank reconciliation, profit and loss, cash flow statement, and mileage. Much added value, and easy to keep up now it’s live.

Started blocking accounts that only post meme photos dunking on this or that Thing To Be Mad About (TM). Probably just bots anyway. Improves my feed and my mood.

I wrote recently about placing ancestors on a map. Well, yesterday I got a chance to see one of the locations for this Lynch family. They bought this plot in rural St. Clair County, Michigan, in summer 1867. #familyhistory #genealogy #ancestry #history #puremichigan

I don’t usually see this type of passive-aggressive advice to the next generation on a stone. George Spencer Sr., d. 1911: “He paid his debts and was four square with everyone. He was a good dad. It will be fortunate for you son if you are like him.” Like, don’t mess up the family name, junior.

Celebrating little #genealogy breakthroughs. I’m following a township parcel over time for clues to the fate of a 5g gf William Lynch. On an 1897 map, a Lizzie Edwards is on the parcel. Then it clicks: I had a theory William’s daughter Elizabeth married an Edwards. Pieces fit, need more of them.

The secret to that genealogical riddle is *always* held by a neighbor three doors down. I just never know on which side or in which year.

At some point “FAN research” becomes “I have investigated everyone that this man likely ever made eye contact with.” #Genealogy

This kid was fascinating. Would make a hell of a movie.

A battered suitcase of letters uncovered the remarkable story of Michael "Kick" Murphy, a Victorian Hull teenager who sailed around the world in the 1890s. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Can a German genealogist answer this question. Why are church records reported in both the Catholic and Lutheran church? My ancestors were Catholic, but they also appear in Lutheran church records. Thank you in advance.

I enjoy finding ancestors’ land on modern maps. Just located land my 4g grandfather Joseph Freeman sold in Normanby, Ontario, in 1866, right before the family moved to Michigan. It’s at 43.9838967, -80.7985462 if you’re curious. Doesn’t look like it’s changed much in 160 years. #genealogy #ancestry

This isn't the first time the USA has placed 50% tariffs on Canada. In 1890, the USA's Tariff Act was touted as a way to build up American industry, but the true goal was forcing the annexation of Canada. It backfired and made Canada stronger. This is the story. 📸 LoC 🧵1/10

And maybe learn the names of your grandparents while you’re at it. From the death certificates I see where adult children are informants, it’s clear many people don’t know their grandparents’ names.

I’m begging everyone currently alive to tell at least one other human being where you were born and what your mother’s maiden name is. Apparently this is a lot to ask. #Genealogy

At a local county clerk’s office this morning for a vital record and the helpful woman at the counter recognized me. “Aren’t you that genealogist?” Yes, that’s me. #genealogy #ancestry #familyresearch

Expect to drop a new family history story tomorrow after a fresh-eyed review. Not a murder this time, but still pretty grim. Promise I’ll find some lighter tales to intersperse. #genealogy #ancestry #familyresearch #history #puremichigan

Same. I keep thinking I’ll get to the final boss of research problems and defeat him, but at this point I probably have several levels of the game to go.

Every time I solve a research problem, it immediately sprouts two new ones like some kind of historical hydra. #Genealogy

Just logged in to Ancestry and got a new ThruLines page. I have to say, it makes a good first impression. I guess this is part of the redesigns I've seen people mentioning recently. #ancestry #genealogy #familyresearch

A bit of a true-crime genealogy for your mid-week. #genealogy #ancestry #puremichigan #familyresearch #history
