Quantization can make an LLM 4x smaller and 2x faster, with barely any quality loss. But what *is* it? @samwho.dev crafted a beautiful interactive essay explaining it from first principles, aimed at coders, not mathematicians. ngrok.com/blog/quantiz...

NEW: They Didn’t Want to Have C-Sections. A Judge Would Decide How They Gave Birth. Two Florida women had to attend virtual court hearings while in labor to argue for their right to choose their own medical care. By @amyyurkanin.bsky.social
So the outcry which got him to delete the post came... Now? Now is when enough people got it? This is how far it had to go? And why this particular instance? A video where black people are the apes is the only thing in the past 10 years which triggered the "Ok, now this really _is_ racism" alarm?
President Trump posted a blatantly racist video clip of Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as apes, the latest in a long pattern by Trump of promoting offensive stereotypes about Black Americans and others. The White House press secretary dismissed criticism as “fake outrage.”
Taking a page from @amirtalai.bsky.social 's book: I looove it when a scientist gets interviewed on a podcast and completely cannot contain how nerdy they are, even outside of their domain of expertise.

Good news: the fires are 100% contained! Perimeters have been established! Bad news: this means less attention to the fact that fires are *still burning* and incarcerated firefighters are still getting paid pennies to fight them. So if you haven't yet, make a donation and I'll thank you on video!
Going live today or tomorrow to read off your donations!! gofund.me/51a85e07

NEW: The same political leaders who enacted abortion bans oversee the state committees that review maternal deaths. These committees haven’t tracked the laws’ impacts, and most haven’t finished examining cases from the year the bans went into effect. propub.li/4fF71QR
