I build, and help teams build software. Usually automation related, but also security, infrastructure and cloud. I also enjoy mostly πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ stuff, and daily life in the πŸ‡΅πŸ‡

I'm hungry for some curry. Or even some stew or chili. It's been raining almost nonstop in the Philippines and I could use something hot in this weather.

It's been raining so hard and the humidity's so high (90%) that one of my old keyboards basically broke. Hitting any button along the 5th row triggers all buttons in that row. Oof. Maaaaybe I should be keeping these on a case with a desiccant on it.

I bought an Xteink X4. I love it. But then I realized I actually don't have much EPUB-formatted books and the ones I do read are PDF... Guess it's time to convert these.

Been around on Twitter for a while recently and it feels like a breath of fresh air going back here and no longer deafened by its echo chamber. Sure, there's echo chambers here too but I actually have control over lists here than there.

That said, let's put aside AI for a moment. I think it's more shocking to see a service in general to enforce a TOS change and a 14-day vote without feedback on their users. Rules are rules, but I can tell a rugpull when I see one.

Feels nice to configure the fish shell to your liking. I made it so that: - cd <space> immediately suggests and includes hints for .. and - so it can be tab-selected - cd <space><space> triggers fzf's cd-widget, which basically lets me jump to any underlying directory

Idk about others but I always forget I could <tab> from cd and always end up doing `ls` out of habit beforehand. I also waste so much time directory diving and keep forgetting that fzf has a preset already for it.

> Use HTML instead of Markdown How about use the format that you prefer? This shit ain't new imho. I've always asked for webpages or scripts or Python notebooks. Markdown works just fine. You do you if a fancy page is what makes it work for your brain.

> Markdown's too much words, I don't bother reading at all This boggles my mind imho. Use an editor that makes it work. Use your clanker to make it easier.

When businesses go for AI, they see it as a means to automate, optimize and lay people off. When it's their products/services, instead they sell ads, slow it down and claim "smart" when the dumb solution was actually better and easier. Gee, I wonder why people hate it so much.

I really miss traveling. I'm kinda resigned at the idea of it this year with all the health stuff I have to deal with. Sucks especially when you're growing older.

Using Jetbrains' Air for a bit. It works, but def has annoying early product issues: - can't copy text from the task window (annoying!!) - uses the tool to ask for input, but doesn't actually ask (seen this on Claude, not Junie) - no cost counter on task - interface freezes on moderate operations*

* this one is arguably "moderate": I was trying to set a POC from scratch, roughly 8k lines of changes and multiple Vite reruns and at some point, it just froze at asking for input and interacting with anything just doesn't move. Even the panes didn't collapse when toggling the buttons. Very weird.

Buying all sorts of artbooks and art works in doujins (the safe variety) is clearly becoming an addiction when I have three file boxes worth of them. Looks like I need more if I'm dropping by to Japan again next year. I'm overdue two Comikets' worth of artist work.

I've been quietly observing the Twitter exodus of artists from the platform and yeah, I get that. That AI Edit Image button is pretty much a "have some spray paint cans, go nuts" move on an art gallery.

I remember back then when a Japanese artist shared her work on the platform and clearly took a lot of effort to draw what she loved and some stranger just decided to disfigure the image "for fun" and she was horrified at what they'd done. Terrible stuff.

One would argue, yeah, you could just save photos / screenshot and ChatGPT to alter it. That's correct, this isn't new. It's the upfront slap in the face that's normalizing this behavior for passers-by to do that's terrible here imho. All for the sake of pushing more AI usage numbers.

It doesn't happen often, but goddamn, seeing Bluesky losing its login on a phone is enough for me to just uninstall the fucking thing.

There's so many good games this year. And yet, I'm also finding my way to beloved older titles and I'm also having a blast there. Expedition 33 is the best, then Silksong. I heard Hades 2 is also heading to it's full release soon so... yeah.

People complain about JIRA and Atlassian on how much it sucks. I agree, it hurts to use. But nothing really exists that operates on the same level AND isn't some godawful enterprise-only pricing. You need to hit both if you want to dethrone it. Same principle with Excel imho.

Imho the only one that works is Basecamp, but somehow it doesn't reach audiences beyond the West. Linear is also up there too and I WISH more comps used it, but the pricing doesn't cut it. The US tech scene also mostly ignores regional pricing and support, so there's that too.

Every time I look at Twitter or Reddit or some other big community, I always think that they almost never represent what's actually the end-users. The majority of folks either use no social media at all, or use one that's outdated or not on your own. Or in a different language.

I always think: what does India, China, Indonesia, Brazil and other countries think about the stuff you're strongly pushing for? Do you really think they share the same sentiments?

Uninstalled ollama, reinstalled LM Studio. Funnily enough, I did the same before because I was frustrated at how LMS handled itself and ollama did better back then and now it's the other way around.

I picked up LM Studio because they actually got MLX working and didn't store their models in some godawful structure. Ollama failed in both. I was also pleased that UX stuff from before were improved. Even more than what I expected. The relaxed stance on work use is good too.

Sometimes, I wish I got reminded of the little terminal utilities and applications I download and use since I forget that I have them already and they're awesome. `posting` (a TUI API client) and `ncdu` (ncurses disk usage) are some of them.

Ngl, I used Bluesky less lately because the feeds I rely on stopped working (from why, I believe) and my Following list was cluttered without it. I like reading news, but I wish I can follow agencies but mute them in Following. Now I have to unfollow and add them to a list instead.

God, every time I see these kinds of popups in modern software, I'm convinced we have a generation of UX designers that have never seen how people fucking hated Clippit.

Gemini on the web or app has vastly improved. I remember it being unreliable especially at advanced stuff and it was bad compared to the stellar API results. Now? I can actually get good results AND it works on Workspace + mobile. It's finally on par with the API. Finally.

Jetbrains getting all these updates is neat. I wasn't even expecting to get AI Pro and Junie out of the APP but it's getting added and that's neat. Junie is such a good addition, since it's a nice catch-up to what the VSCode editors are getting, and building simple apps with it is nifty.

> got an internet connection upgrade that essentially doubled / tripled my internet speed Yay. > new network is behind a CGNAT or Double-NAT or has similar difficulties with its public IP resolving to my DNS Well, that's shit.

Every time I use security products meant for business, I can't help but think what they're shipping is just as bad as the malware they're fighting against. The amount of them leeching so much CPU resources when idle, obsessive startup and persistence and annoyances is disgusting.

> over 400 container images aging up to four years ago because I forgot to prune after the regular updates > over 500GB of space on non-SSD NAS storage Welp, `docker image prune -a` is going to take a while...

Sometimes I wonder if people are just that dumb, ignorant or I'm reading a bot response. The lines between what appears to be a human troll and an AI one is becoming difficult to figure out.

The solution to getting rid of the reactions nag message in macOS is to disable FaceTime notifications and restarting your Mac completely. It's quite the wtf solution.

It seems like it's a hot take to side on Firefox as the tech crowd did its thing in YouTube and social media. And you know what? I do think it's overdone. Obsessing over diffs as if that's a definitive sign of abandoning principles is absurd. blog.mozilla.org/en/products/...

blog.mozilla.orgAn update on our Terms of Use | The Mozilla BlogOn Wednesday we shared that we’re introducing a new Terms of Use (TOU) and Privacy Notice for Firefox. Since then, we’ve been listening to some of our

All this AI stuff is moving quite fast but there are surprisingly fewer posts about security when it comes to these. Thankfully OWASP has at least the important bits covered.

macOS Photos is a piece of software that I want to use, but because it doesn't play along with anything else besides Apple's ecosystem, it remains unused. A shame, really. If they made it work with the user's preferred structure and preferably through network shares, I'd use it a lot.
