Hello there πŸ‘‹πŸ» I'm Jeroen, a UX/Design engineer building things with Ruby on Rails and React. Usually I shitpost about it, but also about mechanical keyboards, Succession, film cameras and video games. Most of my stuff (dotfiles, notes, tools...) is open source, so feel free to check my repos.

I wanted a @repebble.com watchface showing my readings from my Nightscout instance. Looks pretty cool πŸ˜„ Let's see how it behaves for some days. This is a 13 yo smartwatch, btw. It's peak convenience design. Easy to replace parts and to tinker with it internally.

Rainy day, chilly, some tea. Gotta love the cozy season. Autumn used to be my least favorite season. I think now it's tied with winter. I still do, and always will, hate summer.

Heh, I was checking microsd packs too. Two years ago, 5 x 32GB costed me 19 euros. Today they cost 45 euros.

Less than two years ago I bought HDDs for 98 euros each. The exact same ones now cost 216 euros. Are we burning buildings already?

Soldering the new keyboard sockets... Did half of them in the wrong position. This is great, because I will learn how to use a desoldering wick TO FIX MY DUMB MISTAKES BECAUSE I'M A FUCKING IDIOT. FFS JEROEN WHY DON'T YOU USE YOUR PEANUT SIZED BRAIN FOR ONCE.

Almost 25 years ago I read La Sombra del Viento (The Shadow of the Wind), in high school. And later the other three books of the series, called El Cementerio de los Libros Olvidados (The Cemetery of Forgotten Books). They're beautifully written, at least in Spanish, and very, very magnetic.

Any self-respecting creator (in this case, musician) using gAI should be embarassed. If it's just for his kids, why does it have a public website with links to Bandcamp, Spotify, etc.?

I have a personal project called Snuggle Bunch. I write songs with my kids, use Suno for vocals/stems and ChatGPT for images. It has nothing to do with the label or video game music. No one on GameChops, staff or artist, had anything to do with Snuggle Bunch. It’s all me.

After half a day reviewing and closing accounts I have a sense of nowadays situation. The bigger the company, the worse the process is.

Doing some cleaning and deleting some accounts I don't use, like Dropbox or Evernote. I remember the late 00s, when all these came up. They used to be great. Internet felt different.

Sony requires me to cancel a service called Creator's Cloud (?). I never signed up, but ok, I go to the site to cancel it. It's in Japanese. And when I try to log in, my credentials work but I'm blocked because that service is not available on my region. πŸ«ͺ

LogMeIn doesn't have the option in their settings. That's not strange. But it doesn't allow you to submit a support request unless you call them by phone. Also they have the worse navigation ever in their site.

Someone decided at some point that the phone's power button should be repurposed as an ingress to the AI slop machine. They took the audio jack away from us and most of the physical buttons, and they're butchering the remaining ones.

I don't think that having a phone with a camera makes one a photographer. Same as being a hairdresser because of having scissors or being a surgeon because you could open someone's chest. Having the tool is not the same as knowing the trade.

cell phones made everyone a photographer, and AI will make everyone a software developer

I think they managed to squeeze money from 70s and 80s kids when they became adults. It worked with things like Star Wars, GTA Vice City or Stranger Things. I see they're trying now with 90s kids. Sorry big corpos. Us 90s kids are mostly broke.

The amount of money they're pouring into building data centers everywhere is crazy. But it's great, because they will be able to collect and process a huge amount of data on how the economy collapsed because of it.

Nobody will remember you for dunking on people on Twitter, being aggressive, or acting like a tough guy. You will be forgotten as an asshole. People will be remembered for being kind and generous. For giving more than they take.

We keep talking about how obsessed and deranged this man is, but what I'm really disappointed is at TJ and Prime. You could notice in their first interview that they were fanboying hard, but dude, at this point still there? Draw a fucking line.

re: omarchy trying to create parallel infra to subvert the linux community and kick trans/female/black people out i know some people think that sounds crazy but DHH literally is doing a podcast tour saying that is exactly what he's doing lol

I saw a couple of this round shaped coins with a squared hole in the background of a picture. I got curious and started checking. The background is blurry so they could be Chinese, but also could be Kan’ei TsΕ«hō coins. Then I start digging.

I see that some are easy to source, but some others are valuable enough to counterfeit them. You need to check. Of course you can collect them. I imagine to find a rare one can be cool. To try to get them from specific regions. Some were cast unofficially during the Edo period, meaning that [...]

even a fake one can be historically valuable. I've never collected anything and I'm not planning on starting now. But this is a stadium-sized rabbit hole to fall into.
