San Diego, we have arrived! There’s some things scheduled slated to be some of the top highlights of 2026 for us. We’re so grateful we get to share these experiences together and can’t wait to share updates. They’ll be birdy. They’ll be nerdy. But they’ll be absolutely on brand…for us at least.

An Eastern Screech-owl calling in the yard as we (me and G) sit on our porch closing out our ten years together/2nd wedding anniv…talk about one of the best ways to cap off this bird nerd love celebration. My heart is full and I’m so so grateful. 💜

Folks that care about #birds or habitat or the Prairie Pothole region or all of it - don’t miss out on joining the flock and speaking up to protect this incredible ecosystem and wildlife!!

What the actual duck!? It’s 2026. We cant actually be in situation of having to go all out to protect Prairie Pothole region…yet, here we are facing major proposed changes to habitat management rules. Take action w @abcbirds.bsky.social NOW before Fri Aug 7 deadline. act.abcbirds.org/a/take-actio...

In all seriousness, I’m a strong believer that this is an incredible opportunity for folks of all backgrounds and interests to come together. Groups that have traditionally been isolated from each other actually have a lot more in common than we often recognize.

Birders, conservationists, and hunters all ultimately want the same thing - a future that has surviving and thriving wildlife in natural habitats. Now’s a time for everyone to come together, give a duck, and band together to do something.

This area is so vital during the breeding season that it’s known as the “Duck Factory” for the diversity and abundance of ducklings that hatch and grow there. On top of that, it’s critical habitat for dozens of other birds like Vesper Sparrows, Brewer’s Blackbirds, meadowlarks, and more.

If nothing else, we should at least focus on the most adorable fluff balls and protect them with everything we’ve got. Whoever can resist these chickies needs their heart checked.

I love hummingbirds so much. And the fact I have *several* in my yard with most coming to my feeders (no dyes - ever!)….it makes me so emotional I gotta admit. 🥹 I so hope everyone gets to experience this joy at some point at least once. Birds are amazing y’all!

This is an authentic, unaltered, iPhone pic!! Who needs generative AI when the most incredible things and experiences are possible?! Birds are amazing! I feel so lucky I got to recently travel to fabulous Newfoundland and enjoy Atlantic Puffins with my guy, Gabriel!

Friendly reminder about the applications and review happening too - these are communications positions. The hiring team is looking for candidates to be authentic and detail-oriented. Folks that don't submit all the requested materials will be declined automatically.

Folks that don't submit their own materials will also not be considered highly (entirely AI generated applications do not convey what you can do and create originally which is exactly what we want to learn more about!).

In the end there are: ~404 applications received for the Digital Engagement Specialist ~589 applications received for the Production Specialist ~767 applications received for the Writer/Editor

Managers/hiring team have been carefully reviewing all of the apps & trying to stay on top of things as they came in. However, we're all (you should too) operating as though next phase of process of review is only beginning as of Mon, June 1. Notifications will start going out accordingly shortly.

Getting msgs from bird folks is always lovely, but 1 saying my *laughter* alone on @aba.org podcast helped make drive while birding recently even better might be 1 of nicest things anyone has ever said to me. Def top 5. & hey, if me on podcast is fun, imaging actually getting out in field birding!

At this time, we are most interested in photos or art of bird species native to the Americas that are of conservation concern; we also have occasional needs for images of common birds and of nonavian wildlife, plants, and landscapes.

And yes the salary is included in the post! And all positions are remote work set up, but you must be in the U.S. My team spans the country, but we are majority Eastern time zone which is why DC is listed as the main hub location.

Bird knowledge isn't *required*, but highly recommended since these positions will be focused on supporting ABC Comms & Marketing and other bird focused products. Plus, you'll be working with me so you know we'll be talking about how birds are amazing each and every day!

🗺️ RTHU or not, here they come! We’re talking Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, of course! They fly thousands of miles from Central America to breeding habitats across the US & Canada. ⬆️ Have you seen them? Learn more in our most recent webinar: bit.ly/3QazaYP

Two Ruby-throated Hummingbirds appeared this evening in my yard and at the feeders I had ready and waiting for them. 🥹 They were my “first of year” and couldn’t be more epitome of a (mental health) glimmer. Talk about literal flying jewels and such gifts. ❤️

That’s my Indigo Bunting pic!! 💙🌻
