also I feel like at 9 there is a huge range of maturity level and also a group of 9 year olds are way more 9 years old than one or two alone would be.

This owl was getting banded and tagged by the Rocky Point Bird Observatory. For the owl’s safety, he/she was wrapped up. These photos…🤣🦉. So cute.

Just look at this li’l guy. I love how the shape of the brush is obviously a stiff circle, like the basic brush in a paint program. (It was probably, basically, a stick, dipped repeatedly in watery slip.) It’s easy to imagine and perform the set of strokes to draw himb.

the book that I am writing is (in part) an attempt to formulate a framework to think critically through these issues, by understanding provenance as an active, manipulatable, literary, and political force rather than just a history of ownership dates

“a trail of books sold under duress …” “that many of these books were acquired in circumstances morally dubious at best, clearly illegal and unethical at worst, can no longer be ignored.” Say #provenance - you hear the loudest ‘Shush!’ in the library… #bookhistory theconversation.com/when-europes...

I posted this last week without comment, but I'm going to comment now. The people who established the system of museums in the West had a very specific reason for doing so: they thought that having an appreciation for the wonders of the world was absolutely necessary for being a good citizen.

#ThatFeelingWhen you’ve got 26 original printings of The Columbian Orator, enough to put one into the hands of each student as you begin teaching how #FrederickDouglass taught himself #HowToRead and #SpeakTruthToPower

Teaching a favorite session today on #FrederickDouglass #Narrative — after decades of scrounging cheap original printings (1799 - 1832) of the #ColumbianOrator … I finally have enough to give one to each student & say, DISCUSS: What kinds of things could an enslaved teenager learn with this book?

I would be so much better at being disgustingly wealthy than our current crop of wealthy people also austerity policies are bad and we should tax rich people and fund cool things like science and art and education and museums and healthcare and stuff

The press as a showman, showing off. A timeless statement of media impact on human life. The Gutenberg Galaxy's main technology, the printing press, is half-man, half-machine! Goosebumps, dear #skystorians, goosebumps.
