I teamed up with young Canadians & doctors to take the federal government to court, given that PM Carney has dismantled every significant measure in the Emissions Reduction Plan to the point where it is no longer compliant with the Net-Zero Emissions Accountability Act ecojustice.ca/file/demandi...

2/ Last month the feds tried to get our case thrown out, arguing it didn't stand a chance of succeeding. If PM Carney's government believes its climate plan is credible, it should be willing to defend it in court. And as it turns out, they'll have to. ecojustice.ca/news/court-s...

ecojustice.caCourt sides with youth in climate caseYouth, health, and environmental groups are celebrating a legal victory after the court finds their climate accountability case can move forward.

3/ The Federal Court rejected the federal government’s attempt to strike our case. That means the case will proceed to a full hearing. What we’re seeking: the court to compel the Min Dabrusin to amend Canada’s 2030 GHG Emissions Reduction Plan so that it can achieve Canada’s 2030 target

1/ Last May PM Carney announced plans to bulldoze through major projects despite harms to nature & wildlife. The public pushback was huge. In response the feds said they will not move ahead with proposal to authorize projects that could impact the recovery of endangered wildlife. Victory? Not yet.

2/ If the feds are serious about protecting endangered species, they must also eliminate the power to cause their extinction under the Building Canada Act (C-5). And they can't list the West Coast Oil Pipeline or Roberts Bank megaport as Projects of National Interest under the BCA.

environmentaldefence.caCivil Society Groups Urge PM Carney to Protect Endangered Orcas and Environment - Environmental DefenceCoalition says the federal government can and must protect Canada’s natural heritage, uphold Indigenous rights and ensure major projects serve the public

3/ Doubling down on the fossil fuels causing the climate crisis is shortsighted. The trends in the energy sector are clear: investment in clean energy nearly double investment in fossil fuels. Canada has what the world wants and it isn’t oil or gas.

4/ For Canada’s long-term economic growth, the costs of climate change are no less consequential than the risks of weak investment. Last year, climate change reduced Canada’s GDP by approximately C$25 billion, comparable in scale to the impacts of the US trade war.

2/ PM Carney’s pitch book does include some big clean energy projects - but it also includes $108 billion of fossil fuel projects. Investing in the clean energy transition while also expanding fossil fuel production isn’t a coherent investment strategy, it’s a contradiction.

More pollution is a policy choice - one that is costly for Canadians. The costs to Canada from climate disasters are already comparable in scale to the impacts of the US trade war – and they will keep rising year after year if PM Carney doesn’t reverse course.

This is why we’re taking Prime Minister Carney and his government to court. We’re asking the courts to step in and order the federal government to create a climate plan that can actually protect Canadians and the environment from the worst impacts of climate change by meeting the 2030 target.

/2 Canada’s climate rules were starting to work – until PM Carney gutted them. The list of weakened/cancelled policies includes: - industrial carbon pricing -cap on pollution from the oil and gas -EV sales standard rules At the same time, he has recklessly doubled down on fossil fuel expansion.

Same story, but CBC chooses a headline that actually misrepresents the study and frames climate change as a now irreversible problem. The actual study, as AP notes, describes going over 1.5C and how to get back under that threshold.

In 2025, while most of us struggled with affording the basics, oil & gas American shareholders had a 32% increase in returns & CEOs saw big pay bumps, like Enbridge's CEO who made $24.39 million But yah, let's give even more public handouts to these guys..... calgaryherald.com/business/exe...

Pm Carney claims the govt is "consulting" First Nations on the west coast pipeline "The honour of the Crown requires respectful dealings, not self-imposed urgency in a condensed consultative process that demands answers from First Nations based on completely absent design and technical detail."

@adampolsen.bsky.social: The presentation was bureaucratic and rigid. We were reminded multiple times by the administrators that the question — whether or not the West Coast Oil Pipeline is in the national interest — is narrow, and we were cautioned to not get ahead of ourselves. #abpoli

The @ubcic.bsky.social is calling on Canada & Alberta to immediately halt efforts to advance the proposed West Coast Oil Pipeline - calling it a threat to the rights of First Nations and to communities are already experiencing devastating climate disasters

The Liberals🤝 Big Oil A new report by @envirodefence shows that the federal government was lobbied by the fossil fuel industry at least 1,318 times. Now they want to name the proposed West Coast pipeline a "project of national interest" (PONI).

In the first year of PM Carney’s government, oil lobbyists had over 1300 meetings – that’s 5 times per working day. So if you have been wondering why Carney's government is expanding pipeline, oilsands, fracking, LNG and gutting climate policy. Here is your answer

4/ Government MPs are taking way more meetings with fossil fuel lobbyists. In 2024, Liberal MPs had 91 meetings, versus 323 in PM Carney's first year (though Ministers account for some of that uptick of course)

5/ The most active fossil fuel lobbyists were the companies making up the Oil Sands Alliance – the largest oilsands companies behind the Pathways CCS project – with 305 meetings. At the same time, these same decision makers are shutting out civil society, including climate organizations.

2/ Minister Hodgson took 83 meetings with the fossil fuel lobby. In comparison, Min Wilkinson had 15 meetings his last year (still a very high number) Canadians can’t trust Minister Hodgson – who served on the board of an oil company – to regulate the industry that he has such cozy ties to.

3/ Access matters. Over Prime Minister Carney’s first year in office, he has dismantled Canada’s climate progress and environmental protections and has instead pursued an aggressive and reckless agenda of doubling down on fossil fuels. He has given Big Oil everything on their wish list.

3/ PM Carney's sneaky move came the day after UN Secretary General criticized countries for doubling down on fossil fuels, saying “[e]very new fossil fuel project approved today makes tomorrow’s heat waves more dangerous and our world less secure.”

4/ How many wildfires, heatwaves, droughts, burnt down communities, ruined livelihoods, and lost lives will it take for PM Carney to stop his reckless pursuit of expanded fossil fuel production?
