I am sure these guys would be good but I have been flying the flag for Aaron Pierre as the new Bond since Rebel Ridge and I will not stop now

👏 Jack Lowden! 👏 👏 Jack Lowden! 👏 👏 Jack Lowden! 👏 Three of the four shortlisted actors for #JamesBond are Jack Lowden, Callum Turner, and Josh O’Connor. Despite rumors, THR reports Jacob Elordi is not in contention. deadline.com/2026/10/jame...

Fortnite skins should just follow the “Dragon Ball game DLC” path of just adding more and more Gokus. None of this other shit. Just Goku after Goku.

Today in “further thoughts on games funding applications”: I am increasingly wary of how many marketing plans I’ve seen that are largely focused on Steam Next Fest driving huge wishlist numbers. The value on these things just continues to depreciate.

Few things more humbling in life that a first draft! It is good for the soul to take something shit you made and make it less shit.

I’ve been in a bunch of games funding panels and discussions and rule number 1 of asking for money to make art is that you need to present some sort of evidence that you are actually able to make the art

I have not had a chance to read through @continuemag.bsky.social issue one yet beyond a quick flick through but I am truly very excited by how much this thing looks and feels like all the best parts of the game magazines I always loved. There’s no vanity to it, no filler. Lovely stuff.

Truly very special to collaborate with my wife (!) @lisavertudaches.bsky.social on this too (although technically when we did the work we were still unmarried). Feels like the things I miss from the past colliding with the best parts of the present in a very nice way.

I have thought about this and I feel like I can say confidently that Harold Halibut is one of my favourite games of the last five years. I think it’ll be right at home on the Switch 2. (Unfortunately my Kotaku Australia review of it was swallowed by an internet monster)

SLOW BROS.@slowbros.bsky.social

Our HANDMADE adventure, Harold Halibut, will soon be able to come with you wherever you go. We're excited to announce that we are bringing Harold and the residents of the FEDORA to Nintendo Switch 2 on November 12! 🐟

A free repository of (successful) pitch decks is a *very* cool feature for a new games site to have

Chris Kerr@kerrblimey.bsky.social

I also want Vertical Slice to evolve beyond the confines of a traditional paper. That's why I'm launching The Repository, a growing (free) collection of pitch decks and design docs donated by generous contributors including @kitfoxgames.com, @outersloth.com, and @outerloopgames.bsky.social.

I am a *little* sad to not be in Melbourne but also quite excited that I actually get Labour Day off tomorrow for the first time in years?? (I'll be using it to work on my book)

Have fun next week, folks who are going to Games Week stuff. I am most sad to be missing the @continuemag.bsky.social launch (and also several people)

James O’Connor@jickle.net

I will not be at Games Week in any significant capacity this year! I will be too busy working on games and writing about games and maybe playing some games.

Best of luck to whoever is put in charge of cancelling this one

Jon Watts is set to direct ‘STAR WARS: EPISODE 10’. The film is intended to be the beginning of a new trilogy in the Skywalker Saga. (Source: www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general...)

From a pure “sports narrative” perspective the hot favourite pulling a huge comeback in the last four minutes to win for a third time in a row over the team that has never won before is total horse shit

A VR port of *by far* the worst game in the series certainly is an interesting choice, by a broad definition of the word “interesting”

Well, my redundancy has been finalised today. Not really sure what to do with myself now, but posting about it again feels vaguely productive.

It's looking increasingly likely that my time at ScienceAlert is coming to an end. So I guess I have to join the chorus of people asking if anybody knows of any outlet that might be in need of an experienced writer, editor and/or fact checker, in science, tech, games or pop culture.

I have dedicated a substantial percentage of my life into making sure that the ways I play and enjoy videogames is meaningfully constructive within my own life. But it is significant, I think, that I’ve seen so many people who work in or around games stop playing them once they don’t have to

Haus of Decline@hausofdecline.bsky.social

Hit my late 30s & now if I think about playing video games it triggers a disgust response. Don't think this is a universal feeling nor do I think it is a medium without merit. But I'm paralyzed by the thought of how much time I spent on them when I could have been doing something more constructive.

I do also think that in your late 30s you really find yourself taking stock, and it feels like every decision you made over the past 20 years has locked you into whatever path you’re on in a way that can be confronting, especially if you are standing on the bow of a ship watching the armada sink

Anyway I refuse to let this thread go longer than three posts so I will close by saying that I feel very lucky to still enjoy and love games in a meaningful way and I hope I can keep that going

This popped up in my feed, and reminded me that this was the issue that broke my 90-odd issue streak as a contributor (but I was back the issue after… and then about 7 issues later the whole mag died)

Hyper #259, July 2015 - 'Mirror's Edge Catalyst' cover.

Parallels tickets went up and sold out earlier this week while I was in the middle of hosting a stand-up meeting and I have felt bad for people on my team who missed out ever since

I have really bad stick drift on two different PS5 Dualsense controllers and instead of either replacing or fixing them my thinking has been shifting more towards “well I should just avoid playing this console when possible to save my remaining controller”

This is how I spent my Saturday night. Poring over black & white printouts. We send the first issue of CONTINUE to print TODAY. I've worked on hundreds of magazines, this feels different. This is what we dreamed into reality. I think we've created something special. Can't wait for you to see.

I know we have litigated this once every three weeks for the last 30 years but it’s a *little* concerning that this critical reception is being widely read and understood as disastrous

Welcome back, early 2000s-era console wars, we didn’t miss you but maybe it’ll be a bit more fun to really favour Nintendo this time around
