Who, me? You know how writers will sometimes do stand-up to try out their jokes. This account is kinda like that (except for the posts you don't find funny)

Kinda weird that the theme of this album seems to be taking that one line in the Dr. Steel song "Fibonacci Sequence" about a highway as a metaphor for irreversible global calamity and making 8 whole songs out of it

"Enigmatic Terminus" is the callback to "Driving to Destruction", which is itself a callback to Infernal. Remember Infernal? What a good album that was. 2018 was the worst year of my life, and yet I kinda miss it right now

"Siren in the Storm" is the current track. The album has a unique style, but it seems to be blending together a little by now. That's fine, not every track can be a standout

Speaking of, where's Valerie Gracious? Ariel Farber? Seems like it's mostly just Phideaux himself singing. His vocals are a good deal better than in his last outing, but I miss the harmonies. His band isn't in the credits either

See what I mean? Now I feel like I'm overthinking again. Did Phideaux really do this one by himself? Were his friends uncomfortable with the generative AI on display, or worse, in the tracks? Why did it have to be like this

Also any artist using genAI is playing russian roulette with the concept of art itself. If you make something by secretly using AI and it reaches some dimension of popular acclaim, the audience will be forced to reckon with this sooner or later. What happens then? Does it become normalized?

Am I being hypocritical. I've aired my reservations against AI criticism, and it comes down to this: a lot of it assumes technological power cannot be unseated, and so our engagement with platforms and technology can only be seen through this lens. And I think this is incredibly defeatist

At the same time, there are real material problems we need to be wary of. I'm less concerned with abstract things like the ownership of art or numbers around water usage and more like, consensus reality. The reason I oppose Phideaux using genAI is because it calls his process into question

"Hey Humanity" was the first track that hit streaming before the album was released if memory serves. It's the first truly great track of the record, which bodes well

"Driving to Destruction" starts with a riff on one of the motifs from Infernal, which makes sense thematically. That album was also about the inexorable progress towards annihilation, brought about in no small part by technology

Did nobody around the guy tell him maybe this wasn't such a good idea. I know he works with classically trained musicians all the time. He also does TV and hangs around actors and writers. This is doin my head in

He played "Do What You Will" on General Hospital, if I'm not mistaken, and that's the first track. It's alright I guess. I wonder how the show's audience received it

Am I the only one who cares about this. The bandcamp is full of people praising the record, which I don't doubt; Phideaux is my favorite music artist active today. The genAI cover art is very disappointing though

Jeopardizing the practice of democratic self-government by watching and caring about the news Democracy famously works very well when the population is apathetic and misinformed

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

I mean it's true this person is Sephirothposting but they are talking at least a bit of sense

THIS! I am a Monster... so hate comes so easily that I must regulate and evaluate all of my thoughts. "Hate In Specifics" That is the best rule I have put myself under in order to keep things nearer to Reasonable Vague Hate is laziness. Lazy, and cant be articulated without idiocy

What a lot of people don't know is after the election, Flavio and Lula have to have a sword duel at the Three Power's plaza in Brasília's Monumental Axis. The votes are kinda like monopoly money they can use to buy armor and weapons for the fight

Making an account in one of those prediction market websites to start betting exclusively on bad news, so when the world invariably disappoints me at least I make some money off of it

Compulsory voting in here is kind of annoying but on the other hand the little computer that tallies the votes makes a funny noise, so it evens out in the end. I think it runs Linux

I don't know what "crumbl cookies" is or why anyone would need it when you can put lemon frosting in between two crackers and that's pretty much the best cookie ever made right there

To be fair to the replies, it is tech companies' own fault that their products became so radioactive in the court of public opinion. Still, I stand by my position that most AI criticism is deeply unserious

In awe at the one that's just 4. This has got to be some kind of encryption horseshoe theory where it's so dumb that no attacker would ever bother with 1-digit strings

I could see myself getting really into birdwatching I think. Mostly to learn to tell apart all the different bird calls we hear every day so I can know what the bird ecosystem around me is like at all times
