Good morning. It's one week to election day, six days left of early voting across MI. Turnout has exploded. 77k IP votes yesterday, roughly 110k ballots returned by my rough math. That should bring us to a total of ~190k new votes per day this week. Some analysis below:

What's the tl;dr? Michigan turnout will probably be slightly above 2022, driven largely by mail's consistency and some IPEV sprinkled in there. If Nevada has a blue wall in its mail vote, Michigan has a blue fortress.

So, here's my best guess, with the caveat that it could be any number of things, including republicans returning to EDay after '24 (though that doesn't seem to be happening in states like NV or NJ): Republicans are the ones not turning out for early voting, and the turnout gap reflects D vs R

Further evidence for this is IPEV in Detroit remained strong yesterday (about 2,000, which means it has now surpassed 2024 IPEV). Detroit appears to, for once, actually be keeping pace with the rest of the county in overall (not just relative) turnout. Huge!

If this is anything like early voting in New Jersey, yesterday will be the reddest day of the nine. That seems to track, given the turnout gap growing in Ottawa County vs Kent and Muskegon yesterday. Nevertheless, the bluest county in north MI, Leelanau, smashed right past 50 to 51.7% of 2024 EV.

I expect we will hit around 750k IPEV. That is a vast turnout decrease in that voting method from 2024 (about 40%). States elsewhere have seen voters move into IPEV from mail, but I don't think the reverse is happening here. Mail is tracking even with 2022 and is only down 27% from '24 same day.

as a lions fan all the sports on here just depresses me it's hard being an american marxist and a lions fan because you know it's possible for both to win and you root for your team no matter what but have either done it yet? 😭

The elections are on next Tuesday, and so much is at stake, including the soul of the Democratic Party when it comes to transgender people. I am asking you to leave a very small number of races blank in which a Democrat has embraced extreme anti-trans hate. I make my case here.

erininthemorning.comDon’t Vote For The Worst Anti-Trans DemocratsThe Democratic Party should, and likely will, win big in the midterms. We must not send the worst anti-trans voices to join them.

Alright, good morning all. With the valid crashouts from last night out of the way, more Michigan early vote mapping. We're steadily climbing statewide. About 80,000 votes cast again yesterday but that includes mail ballot dropboxes, so IPEV was a touch under 60,000.

You can start to see more stratification up north. Without commenting too much on patterns that may be happenstance, I notice that the I-75 and US-31 corridors are where turnout is highest, i.e., more populated areas. Dems should probably be happy about that.

Turnout in the UP remains concentrated to the bluest counties while being down in the reddest. The West MI lakeshore also is starting to really churn, Ottawa, Manistee, and Leelanau being the highest. Leelanau is at 45% of 2024 EV now, will surpass 50 today possibly. @hydevoltyge.bsky.social

I expect today will bring the first true statewide explosion of early votes. We have until this point been receiving about 60,000 total votes per weekday. I expect that to double or triple. Detroit set a day two EV record again yesterday, more than doubling its same day 2024 turnout.

Oakland and Washtenaw counties are really zooming, they're the real winners yesterday along with a glut in Kent. Wayne County also received a decent portion, the rest of the county is appearing to finally catch up to Detroit though it likely won't surpass Detroit before Eday.

A message to cis liberals, as a quote from my favorite Shakespeare play: You common cry of curs! whose breath I hate As reek o' the rotten fens, whose loves I prize As the dead carcasses of unburied men That do corrupt my air, I banish you;

And here remain with your uncertainty! Let every feeble rumour shake your hearts! Your enemies, with nodding of their plumes, Fan you into despair! Have the power still To banish your defenders; till at length Your ignorance, which finds not till it feels,

Making not reservation of yourselves, Still your own foes, deliver you as most Abated captives to some nation That won you without blows! Despising, For you, the city, thus I turn my back: There is a world elsewhere.

chat, right wingers i know are coping that the brazilian election could be annulled because "every expert" says so this is me mocking them

Congratulations to President Lula da Silva, and to the women of Brazil! Thank you for saving the planet. As a USAmerican I wish I could be half as proud of our politicians as you should be of Lula

Lotta cis white women today showing why I don't make friends with cis white women. I fought for your reproductive rights for years and I get nothing in return. I spit on you and your party. Join me in the camps or become a handmaiden. See if I care.

seriously, as a trans person living in Iowa I'm not voting for this guy and I'm asking you not to either

Erin Reed@erininthemorning.com

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

So the answer is none. You are not willing to give up any rights. Typical white cis woman. Sorry to hear about your cancer. My sister is also a cancer survivor and when I told her about the monster in Iowa she said he can get fucked. Trans rights or no rights.

zoemaddy.bsky.social@zoemaddy.bsky.social

How dare you. I’ve spent my life working/voting for human rights. And I’m a breast cancer survivor. The only choice to protect those rights in *this* election is to vote D. This the sad state we find ourselves in today. It’s not ideal. The choice is imperfect democracy or fascism.

8 days left of statewide in-person early voting in Michigan, and this is what early vote turnout looks like. Yesterday had just shy of 80,000 people turn out in-person. Extrapolating that gives us ~720k total statewide for final count. That give us 59% of 2024, imo we're going to see it go higher.

Furthermore, Detroit smashed the early in-person record. I saw a post yesterday that said Detroiters simply can't be counted on to vote early in person as they shift from mail voting. That appears to be wrong on two counts: - Detroit mail is up relative to 2022 - Detroit IPEV up compared to *2024*

To put it simply, this looks like a landslide statewide for democrats. As we hit weekday voting, expect IPEV turnout to increase further and for more absentee ballots to be dropped off at dropboxes. Increasingly, it appears as though we will exceed 2022 turnout by far. My tentative forecast: ~60%

What's probably most worth noting is what's changed slightly but surely: Washtenaw and Genessee counties are starting to climb. They've been lagging, but no longer, it appears. Dems will need that. Northern Michigan turnout got even higher relative to the state. Leelanau Co. at 43.6% of 2024.

Take the two old parties mister, no difference between them I see.

Yesterday, a Michigander cast the millionth ballot (statistically speaking, probably for Jocelyn Benson and Dr. Abdul El-Sayed since they're 99% mail). Today, all counties open early in-person voting and continue until the sunday before election day. Here's where turnout stands relative to 2024 EV

Will Lawrence and Dr. El-Sayed are going to be fine. This mail turnout looks like 2022, which was before EIP. That means dems, given trends in other states, will probably show up *more* than in 2022 starting this weekend. Furthermore, MI-01 looks competitive. @hydevoltyge.bsky.social pinging jic

Lansing area, Kalamazoo area, and tri-cities area also up. Flint is somewhat down, but it's actually caught up in mail a lot since last week! I expect it to get to where Oakland/Wayne are. Wayne outside Detroit has lower turnout but it's not a huge deal. Looks more similar to Macomb/Oakland.

Finally, the UP, the west coast (best coast), and Northern Michigan are where we're seeing the biggest spikes. Leelanau County is at the highest of any, >40% of its 2024 EV has already been cast. Now onto some electoral conclusions:

Credit to MI SoS for making this data available daily! This is the last opportunity we have to be sure that these early votes are largely D-leaning given prior trends, so let's talk about where they are: Detroit is at ~36% of its EV in 2024. Huge jump, lots of black turnout
