Hi new followers, I’m a cartoonist based in Vancouver, BC. Drawn comics small-press and pro, spent time in animation and taught comic fundamentals, too. Mostly drawing stories of a satirical nature or true to life these days. Also an easy mark for almost any footage of baby elephants. Welcome!

Latest sketch cover commission for my pal Michael G. D’Orc creator Brett Bean is returning classic cartooning to the American comics scene. Props to him. I enjoyed drawing this one (which is pretty much always the case, but still)! #sketchcover #traditionalart

Many thanks to Danny and Flavia for curating the Spooky Post Card 3 show and hosting the opening last night... and for making the One More Life gallery a thing! They gave us amazing shows. 'Spooky' runs until the 14th of November, open Saturdays 12-4pm. Great local line-up. Look quick for my art!

“Rent Free”, one of my pieces from the Spooky Postcard Show opening tonight at One More Life gallery! Runs until November 17th. #traditionalart #watercolour #coldpress #pumpkintimes

Posting some scratchboards from past times because it’s the haunting season! My tribute to the “Uncanny” Karloff, from one of my favourites, the Val Lewton produced ‘The Body Snatcher’ @ 1945. Well worth a watch if you’re looking for some moody suspense! #scratchboard #karlofftheuncanny

Not interested in your AI shizz because what it is to draw, mask, & paint a piece, and it's worth the journey. "Dismount", since sold. Watercolour on cold press. Thx to Simone Biles for the inspiration

My art for the celebration of life of Ted Baker held Sunday. He was a good friend and a defender of his community, not to mention a real horror flick devotee. October was his month. He should be here enjoying it. Rest in power, pal.

My gear was getting real basic & drab, so I asked Clara Bintner to make some mythic mark-ups on my blah-black denim jacket and she so delivered! I embrace the Fall hues now in style. Check out her site for all the eyeball kicks. A major talent. Thanks, Clara! clarvwickiarts.wordpress.com

Most comic conventions should just change their name to commerce conventions. I know folks enjoy NYCC and I hope everyone in Artists Damnation Alley makes bank but I was expecting the Soylent Green people movers to bust in any minute so the hucksters could slab marked up people crackers for resale.

Dropped off my art for the Spooky Postcard Show 3 today. Check it out at the One More Life gallery on the 23rd in the City Center Artist Lodge. It will be their last show! Ka-sniff!

A “Gravity Falls” sketch cover request from one of the organizers at last weekend’s Comic & Toy Show. “Gravity” was a discovery for me-- lot of fun stuff in this show! I chose the Candy Monster to get the ghosty-goblin month started off right! #sketchcover #traditionalart

#sketchoftheday: Drawn in 2021 after the unmarked grave discovery at the Kamloops Residential School. In solidarity, and with an abject rejection of denialism on this National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. #orangeshirtday #everychildmatters

A sketch cover from this weekend's show. Sometimes you gotta go with the classics. Props to Jack Davis and his original door poster. Thanks to everyone who came by the table at the Comic & Toy show! #sketchcover #traditionalart

Today’s message. And you’re welcome! Stickers available at the Vancouver Comic & Toy Show today 'til 5pm. Look for the artist island between the two dealer rooms. If you miss me, I might make these available somewhere in town.

I wanted to try a for real sketch cover just to see if I could do a cool action thing... don’t think it’s quite me, though. I did like drawing the Black Widow, though I changed up her look a bit. Available for purchase at this weekend’s Comic & Toy show! #sketchcover #traditionalart #blankcover

Argh. No fair, I have no shelf space left for new deluxe volumes. Incidentally, my favourite of all EC covers is Psychoanalysis #1 by Jack Kamen.

Fantagraphics@fantagraphics.bsky.social

Here, for the first time, in a deluxe two-volume collection, is the best compilation of the covers from EC Comics: The Crypt of Covers is out 12/8! https://ow.ly/TtrN50ZR9Fk

New watercolour to get us into the ghosting season: for those who remember. Available at the Vancouver Comic & Toy Show this weekend @ the PNE. #watercolour #traditonalart #gozerworship

Happy birthday to Willy Elder, who drew this panel, the greatest splash to ever appear in a major American comic publication, and no one can say nothing otherwise. Writing and original layout by Harvey Kurtzman. From Mad #16, 1957.

Didn’t have stellar results from life drawing efforts last night at the Federation of Canadian Artists' Open Studio, but our model, Allison Lang, brought butoh dance to her session, giving us some incredible poses. A great debut for her; I hope she’ll do more. #lifedrawing

@farel.bsky.social and I were recently talking about trading art back in the day on his Patreon (support!). He got this Mars Attacks piece (& one more) I worked up as a submission for IDW. I def got the better deal in the swap, but I still like this one. Ink & litho crayon on nubby cold-press paper.

I am now the creator of "Advo-Cat" the advocating cat. From the UBC Pop Culture Cluster newsletter, out today. I really like the intent of this project and I'm grateful to be a part of it.

I know have everybody posts their bee in flower pictures, but this time there were two bees in every flower, and they were just absolutely chilling, like, "Man, that was some good spores this summer. Let's bask in good post-pollen haze." Seemed like real harmony.

#sketchoftheday: Another paint pen experiment, this time trying to capture the cosmic colours of Theremin Man! Stephen will be bringing his space sounds to the Ovaltine Café tomorrow (Sunday) at noon as part of a benefit push for the diner! Good music for a good cause! #sketchbook #poska #vanmusic

I included this piece in the latest sketchbook collection. Originally just intended as a gift, it ended up being the one time I painted a page with watercolour (still a professional ambition). Pretty happy with the results. Sketchbook 2 available at the Vancouver Comic & Toy Show Sept. 26th & 27th!

#sketchoftheday: counter of the Truck Stop Café on Clark, which I finally visited last weekend. New owners of a historic place; really nice folks and good prices. Glad to have made it in, but the message board was a bit much… they didn’t have to go that far!

The new episode of Futurama features (at last!) the return of Nibbler and his adorbs space ship. I only got to draw the two in issue 54 of the comic, but it resulted in one of my favourite panels from the run. Bonus thumbnail drawing in the 2nd! #futuramarevival #bongocomics #originalart

I have the original, one of the first indy comics I bought when I moved to Vancouver in '91, and it was a K-WOMP to the head. The Naughty Bits run was savage and funny and true, and I love that it's getting renewed attention. Congratulations, Roberta!

Fantagraphics@fantagraphics.bsky.social

Can you handle it?? Naughty Bits #1 "Facsimile Edition" by Roberta Gregory is out now! https://ow.ly/HVUG50ZGg5P

I really love it when a childhood hero recognizes one of the best Canadian cartoonists ever for all the right reasons.

SHOUT-OUT to Political Cartoonist extraordinaire & Member of the Order of Canada Michael de Adder, who routinely does a far better job of holding this administration accountable than the corporate media. Thank you for your attention to his brilliant satirical wit! 🙏 (also: 🤣)

#sketchoftheday: Portrait of local singer-songwriter Sinead X Sanders, who was performing earlier today as part of the Live At The Ovaltine Café sessions, a series of music events organized as a fundraiser for the diner. Seeing Stephen Hamm on the 13th. Support!

Tried my hand at some portraiture during the print making workshop yesterday at One More Life gallery. Didn't quite stick the landing. Maddy & BF. Check out the "Hot Off The Press" show at One More Life, Main & 6th, lobby of the City Center Artist Lodge!

For Abby, who won her court case and will stay in her home. I drew this in early '25, shortly after the campaign started. Communal celebration on the 19th!

Nick is making serious inroads with his very cool sci-fi series!

Since it was founded in 1995, Dolly’s Imagination Library has sent hundreds of millions of books worldwide to children monthly free of charge for simply registering at the site. Thanks for supporting literacy, Ms. Parton ❤️.
