Politico wrote up Zohran playing basketball with the uncovering-a-big-scandal tone the same day the NYTimes wrote up "credible allegation that The President of the United States raped a woman" as a political strategy story. Broken media in a nutshell

You can't beat fascism by agreeing with fascism. You can't beat fascists by accepting a fascist frame. Corporatist Democratic Party leadership needs to be defeated and jettisoned. We have to fight them, not because we don't want to fight Republicans, but because they refuse to.

Wintersong@wintersong.bsky.social

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC - @electdemocrats.bsky.social) is running anti-trans ads now, so I don't know how you can say the party itself isn't embracing transphobia. There are still some good Dems out there, but transphobia is apparently a party value.

I gave Bernie 21 dollars in 2020, and I haven't made a donation since. This is the reason. @democrats.org are you paying attention?

Molly Knight@mollyknight.bsky.social

I was going to donate to Amy Acton today but decided not to because after giving to Al-Sayed I get 3-5 texts daily asking me to give him more money. I block but they still come in from different numbers. It is as if the GOP came up with the idea to punish small Dem donors with spam. 😔

Trump: "My decision on Russia is simple... Russia is doing very little, if anything, to help Iran, compared to what they could be doing ... Zelenskyy is using refineries as a target, knowing attacks are seriously hurting ... He could have made better deal 2 years ago. His country is in shambles ..."

Schiff is fundamentally, like many Democrats and all Republicans, a defender of capital, which means that when he has to choose between democracy and fascism, he will choose fascism.

My first stop was Alberta, the only province not boycotting Californian wines. I spoke to provincial leaders about the importance of the Canadian market to California farmers and the importance of continuing close collaboration on dairy, beef and energy trade.

It is shocking and incredibly stupid that one of the most prominent politicians in a pro-democracy party has helped allies of an authoritarian acquire a major news outlet. trib.al/WLqoiQm

I must have been about five or six years old, my older cousins were babysitting me and they watched the original "Dawn of the Dead" on VHS with me in the room. I had nightmares for months, and now nearly forty years later still hate zombie movies.

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

What it is: an incredibly resource-intensive data-harvesting machine. What it does: generate profits for fascists. This is kind of all I need to know, really.

feels like there is a group of smart and well-intentioned people who long ago made up their minds that AI Is Bad, swore off using it, and now get all their info about AI from each other. not saying they're wrong that ai is bad! but i think they're gradually losing touch with what it is and does

I'm happy to start referring to it as "SI" if I can make it stand for "Stupid Intelligence"

New on my analog travel blog: El Pípila!

The Analog Nomad@theanalognomad.bsky.social

216 years ago, in Guanajuato, Mexico, a miner nicknamed "The Turkey" singlehandedly broke into a Spanish fort on behalf of Hidalgo's troops. I wrote a bit about it here, and included some other photos of Guanajuato for kicks. #elpipila #believeinfilm #travel #travelwriting #guanajuato #35mm #turkey

Was thinking about this recently, seems to me that marketing/ad strategies have shifted overall from "You are lacking something, and I can sell you something to fill the lack" to "You are perfect, I can sell you something to celebrate your perfection"

Some Democrats, like Tammy Duckworth, want fascism, because it's the only way they can keep capitalism.

Meredith Shiner@meredithshiner.com

I had not seen this clip where Tammy Duckworth advises Democrats to "not impeach anybody," "get back to work" and "allow" Donald Trump to "save face" and I would just like to remind the senator from IL that the federal government took 4,000 Chicagoans and murdered a 38-year-old father last fall.

If we had anything close to a functioning democracy, our best physicians and engineering assistants would be at this very moment locking the President away in a Moriarty Cube where he can endlessly post and golf and build ballrooms without endangering the safety of the real world.

New post up at the blog, in which I write about the difficulty of remembering my travels and a nifty little souvenir that made it easier: #travel #journal #slowtravel #travelblog #analog

Whether your staff are wording your posts to sound like bland PR or actually using AI to write them, the pattern is the same: this slop structure that wrings any urgency and authenticity out of your message.

Whether it's a trade war with Canada or an actual war with Iran, the pattern is the same: Americans are paying the price for the President's choices.

Is Oskar Schindler running this factory?

Jesse Coburn@jessecoburn.bsky.social

Workers told me the factory's machines kept failing in bizarre ways. Robots caught fire. The plant’s signature device cracked the steel artillery shells. Sometimes staff had to pound machines with sledgehammers to get them to work right. They still botched most shells.

"Because we pretended that rot didn't exist, we never cleaned it out" could legit replace "E Pluribus Unum" on the seal of the United States

capitolhunters@capitolhunters.bsky.social

Because we pretended that rot didn't exist, we never cleaned it out. It's still festering in Congress. That's why GOP lawmakers confirm all Trump's nominees, why no one stands to object. Because we taught them that complying was painless, and that we'd look away from treason. That needs to stop. 3/

Ugh. Amazon doesn't 'serve' NYC. Amazon extracts profits from NYC to enrich its shareholders. One of the ways it does this is by exploiting the workers who deliver its packages. Another way it does this is when New Yorkers buy stuff on Amazon.

jon ben-menachem@jbenmenachem.com

I am 100% certain that amazon will not stop serving NYC. They may have to impose delivery surcharges or something. Thats okay, we did a similar thing with burrito taxis.

"People who need status to survive have no power to resist" debuting at the top of the Sentences That Help Make Sense Of All This charts

capitolhunters@capitolhunters.bsky.social

It's the same reason universities complied as soon as Trump started issuing demands. Why didn't wealthy university presidents announce "I will step down rather than sign academic freedom away"? Because they'd lose their social world. People who need status to survive have no power to resist. 2/

So the withdrawing of the fucks is the Abdication? Spoiler alert? Southern Reach series is great, so I'm still gonna read it, even though I now know exactly what the entire plot of this last one is.

Jeff VanderMeer@jeffvandermeer.bsky.social

I spent so many fucks in Absolution, I can guarantee you there are no fucks in Abdication.

Here's a solution that contains solutions to plenty of other problems: an Apollo-moonshot-like program to reduce our fossil-fuel use by 95%. If we don't burn much oil, the Strait doesn't matter to us.

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

Honest question: What's the Democratic solution to this problem? I think they need one because this is likely going to be a problem until Trump's not in office, and nobody's going to be able to put the toothpaste back into the tube.

Imagine having a national platform and $15 million to spend fighting a political problem, and you don't pick fascism, transphobia, racism, climate change, OR people who park their cars in bike lanes.
