I hate that threads has recaptured my attention and that Bluesky just isn’t delivering the timely and captivating political/news/current event content that I want. I made an effort to be over here, but as soon as I let the content draw me regardless of deliberate choice, I ended up back on threads.

This is the most straightforward thing they've said so far. They're using the military to "liberate" Los Angeles from its mayor and governor.

Kristi Noem: "We are not going away. We are staying here to liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city." Sen. Alex Padilla is then forcibly removed!

“We need the manly manufacturing of rock hard American products” says the podcasting manosphere who spend their days buying and selling imaginary digital Monopoly meme money.

The idea that American-made products are always better is partly an illusion created by free trade policies. Right now, American manufacturing mostly survives by focusing on premium, ‘craftsman’ or ‘artisan’ markets. 1/3

If a tariff regime actually succeeds in bringing back large-scale manufacturing (big if), companies will eventually produce cheaper, lower-quality goods to meet mass-market demand, and even then, prices would still be much higher than overseas competitors. 2/3

One of the most powerful catalysts for developing critical minds, minds ready for cultural studies and other systemic analyses of power and oppression, is early exposure to jingoistic history, compulsory patriotism, & conservative religious literalism.

Twist the curriculum into an easily escaped knot of lies at your own peril, fascists. There are few things more electrifying to a young mind than breaking free from the binds their elders tied in a feeble attempt to restrain the discovery of truth.

On the one hand, it’s so moronic to think today’s partial tariff pause and inadequate market bounce was a win. On the other hand, if y’all want to celebrate and declare victory like…go for it. Congrats. If that’s what’s needed to stop needless self-harm… amazing work! You the real champs!

Not that theyll answer it but I’d ask: “Does the president’s business genius and Art of the Deal include misleading business leaders and the American public about his plans? Should the American people expect to be lied to as part of the President’s brilliant negotiating strategy?”

Economics is called the dismal science, but one of its most beautiful insights is that production (dare I say, abundance) is possible. That from a functioning system, something new can emerge, something no one could have created alone. Cooperation, even collaboration, holds a kind of creative magic.

Trump’s economics are dismal in the truest sense because he operates in a zero-sum world of liars, cheats, and deadbeats, where the only way to get ahead is to scam, steal, bully, and stiff everyone else. He doesn’t see others as potential partners, but as threats to be crushed.

He calls himself a builder, but he’s a destroyer, manufacturing disasters, then looting the ruins. He’s probably celebrating the collapse of overseas markets, blind to the fact that our fates are connected. When the system breaks, we all feel it.

After letting Trump lie to the American people about laws of economics, the facts are finally breaking through the media blackout just as reality is going to smack business updside the head, shake our system to the core, and wake us from this cult-induced coma.

Tariffs are a bad idea. Trade wars are lose/lose. Allowing folks to deduct interest payments on American cars from fed taxes is a good idea. That’s win/win. It’d be easier if every single Trump was bad, but broken clocks and all that.

The liars at the White House want you to believe that if I tell you where I’m eating, when I’m eating, who I’m eating with, what I’m eating, and the order in which the food will be served, I’m not telling you my dinner plans because the recipes weren’t included. 😝

I knew more about the national security leak than Trump did according to his comments at a press conference today. He is asleep at the wheel or lying to the American people. Possibly both. Regardless, he’s demonstrating once again why he’s unfit for office.

Temporarily blocking access to a library is worthy of imprisonment and deportation but forcing students to drop out of their university is apparently totally cool! I highly doubt any Jewish students at Columbia are celebrating Trump’s retaliatory defunding of the school’s research grants.
