#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 31 - Far From Home The other half of the season premiere. This one shows what happened to Discovery and her crew after crash landing 930 years in the future. The bulk of this ep shows them trying to deal with a local thug who reminded me of Hopper from

A Bug's Life. During all this there's moments with several of the individual crew members. I enjoyed this ep for the most part as it has a bunch of good "wtf is going on" to it, but I have to say I enjoyed the stuff with our crew FAR more than the local town bully. Michael turns up right at the end.

.. and then there were just two left. Walter Koenig has died, according to reports from family. While most Star Trek fans remember him as Chekov, he SHINED as Bester on Babylon 5 - showing he could act if you gave him a chance to do so. #StarTrek

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

Really loving the new Tony Iommi album. One bonus is the two perfume tracks on the deluxe CD. I’ve always loved Scent of Dark, but the ability to blast it out in the car and make my tinnitus worse is most enjoyable. 🤪 But seriously, this is a bad ass album. Thanks to @iommi.com for the tunes 🔥🔥🤘🎸🔥🔥

Was playing a little Nintendo Switch 2 today, and noticed a distinct slant with the most recent games there. I worked at Apogee for the better part of two decades. Hard to purge that from the system. :) @apogeeent.com

An odd vinyl being spun today. I spotted this when in Target yesterday - its called "Snowy Setlist" - a compilation of mostly traditional Christmas music. My wife needed a pick me up, so it's playing today as she loves this stuff. The candy cane vinyl is cute. #vinyl #vinylcommunity #nowspinning

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 30 - The Hope is You, Pt I S3 premiere, and a soft reboot for the show. This ep deals with Burnham after being thrown 930 yrs into the future. In fact it deals with nothing BUT her. She's the only regular cast in this ep. Oh, there's other characters,

but we don't see what happened to Discovery until ep 2. Burnham spends most of this ep thinking everyone died and she's the only one left. We're introduced to David Ajala's Cleveland Booker character who is a regular for awhile. Also, hello Grudge 🐈! A different feel to start the season for sure.

I will say I loved the look of the outdoor scenes. They were filmed in Iceland. My research says that was done to make the future look sufficiently different from the "look" they've had before. I don't know if it looked too much different, but I definitely liked the look of these scenes for sure.

some great battle scenes, and some good moments of emotional resonance. I actually quite liked the scenes at the end of surviving characters being repositioned about the existence/destruction of Discovery. Overall an excellent finale to what to me is the best overall season of Star Trek Discovery.

issue the ship's existence creates with TOS canon. It also solves the problem of why Spock never spoke of Michael ever before. Change in format also means it's the last ep for numerous characters (Cornwall, L'Rell, Tyler). The latter is left running Sec31 after Control/Leland is killed. This ep has

Got access to the new Asia album coming out next month called "Indigo". I was expecting just "more Asia" - you know that same kind of sound they have had over the years. I very much enjoyed the album. I mean it sounds like Asia, but there's some good curveballs in here - very enjoyable tunes.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 28 - Such Sweet Sorrow Pt I First of the 2 part season finale. All of the stuff with Control, Section 31, and the sphere data come to a head. In order to save the data, they decide to evacuate Discovery (to Enterprise) and destroy it. That fails due to

Control, who is basically taking over everything. To rectify this, they come up with a plan to take Discovery out of the current time. Discovery gets help from a character from one of the Short Treks who otherwise wasn't known. This is a fairly talky ep, but it all works well, a good setup for Pt 2.

It took forever to get here, but I'm glad that I'm no longer using an enlarged iPhone app on my iPad.

#AllMyVinyl #165 - "From the Dark" from @iommi.com #nowspinning #vinylcommunity #vinyl Tomorrow is the release of Tony Iommi's new solo album "From the Dark". I've had my hands on it for a little bit now, I whipped up a few thousand words about the album. Some heavy as shit riffs. My thoughts here.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 27 - Through the Valley of Shadows While officially part of the season arc, the connection is not as strong. We travel to a planet which has a Klingon monastery - the same one that Tyler & L'Rell's kid was at. In gaining what they need for defeating

Control, Pike learns about his future - ending up in the chair - which has a nice visual upgrade from the TOS chair. The non Pike stuff was fine, but I LOVED Anson Mount in this big time. Like a lot. It's one of his better acting performances as Pike on DSC or SNW. Some good Reno stuff here too.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 26 - Perpetual Infinity Further dives into Burnham's parents - both in flashback (for both), and current (as Mom shows up). I find myself very attracted to this stuff on second viewing. I wasn't first time around, but I know where Burnham ends up at the

end of the series, so this stuff is great. We also are having problems with Leland, who was attacked in the prior ep, and appears to be a physical manifestation of the "Control" from a few episodes ago. This is another overly talky episode, but I quite liked this a lot. Really good stuff, IMO.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 25 - The Red Angel This ep starts with a funeral service for Ariam - but again, the character wasn't that developed, so it didn't give me the feels. What did however was the background with Burham's family. That stuff was quite good. They figure out a

way to attract the Red Angel, setting a trap with Burnham as live bait. Stamets & Culber's dealing with Culber's resurrection gets some screen time, which I've enjoyed more than I recall from the past. They do trap the Red Angel as planned, but her identity was a surprise reveal at the end. Good ep.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 24 - Project Daedalus We deal with fallout from last ep when an Admiral arrives with "proof" that Spock murdered people. They work their way out of that of course with some good dialogue IMO. The idea of Discovery being a fugitive ship held some merit,

but they didn't stick with that idea enough, IMO. This is a Frakes directed ep, and there are some great unusual camera angles here. Quite liked that. We also find out about Starfleet's "Control" which sounds like their "Super AI" system - like Blake's 7's "Star One", or our own real life AI threat.

A recurring character dies (Ariam). In the last few eps, it was hinted that something was wrong, but not much detail. She's an "augmented human" whose systems were taken over by Control. It's portrayed well on screen, but we've not spent much time with the character for the death to resonate a lot.

We are sad to hear that prolific character actor Richard Riehle has died at the age of 78. He played Batai in Next Gen's "The Inner Light," Seamus in the two Fair Haven episodes of Voyager, and Jeremy Lucas on Enterprise. Our deepest condolences to his friends and family.

But man, what a banger of an ep. We had Vina again, talking about what happened after The Cage. I love a good self referential story, and this WALLOWS in it, but isn't just fan service. Serves the overall arc by restoring Spock's mind from the last ep. There's also some stuff with Ash and dealing

with him murdering Culber as VoQ, as well as Culber being alive again. But the main focus is the Talos IV / Spock stuff. They even updated the look of the Talosians well. It's from here that Pike and Spock crystallized for me, and the fan demand for what became Strange New Worlds started. 🔥🔥🔥

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 23 - If Memory Serves Before I started on this rewatch of DSC, THIS was the episode I wanted to see more than any other. On first viewing, I was like "holy shit, they're doing this!" What they did here is a sequel to the OG pilot - "The Cage". It starts

off with a pre-teaser montage of clips from the Cage, and we're snapped back to current, which has Burnham taking Spock to Talos IV. Pike and Discovery find out about this and get in trouble, as the standing order of not going there is still in place. Granted, nobody's put to death over it.

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 22 - Light and Shadows The Search for Spock concludes - as he's found. He's obviously not guilty of the murder of the people he was accused of. However, it wasn't easy proving that as his mind is gone nuts for a reason you don't know in the narrative

yet. Neither do we know what the Red Angel is at this point. The Discovery deals with some funky time dilation stuff and a dive into relationship between Pike and Ash Tyler. Really nice seeing Spock again, despite him being mentally gone. One of my fav overall Trek characters. Good stuff here.

First vinyl spin of the day is Geezer Butler's "Plastic Planet" which turns 31 today (17 Oct 1995). His first solo work is much heavier than most Black Sabbath fare. There were limited live shows for this, never saw em. Great LP. #CycleofSixty #GivingUpTheGhost #vinyl #vinylcommunity #nowspinning

Happy 26th birthday to the first official Tony Iommi solo album, "Iommi" - originally released 17 Oct 2000. Great stuff here: Goodbye Lament, Black Oblivion, & Who's Fooling Who... I'm told by Tony's people this will eventually be re-released, but no idea when, unfortunately. @iommi.com

18 yrs ago (17 Oct 2008) the Max Payne movie was released. While most tend to not like it, I always got a kick out of it. Is it the best thing ever? No. Is it as bad as people say it is? Also no. But there are definite problems. Still, was fun to see this in theatres. #MaxPayne @apogeeent.com

32 years ago (17 Oct 1994), Wacky Wheels was released by Apogee. Super fun game, had a blast working on that one. Had some great music too (hello Mark Klem!) Fun fact: It was the first game with a Dopefish cameo. Andy Edwardson and I came up with that one. @apogeeent.com @dopefish.com

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 21 - The Sound of Thunder We spend a lot of time with repercussions of events of the last ep. Saru returns to his home planet knowing that everything his people believed was a lie. The other is Dr Culber dealing with now being alive again. Both are good

character explorations. We also dig into the search for the Red Angel, which intensifies the need for Spock. We also have Ash Tyler back on the ship, now working with Section 31. We do get into Kelpian culture a lot. This is a fairly talk-y episode with some good emotional payoffs. Enjoyed it a lot.

RIP Levelord. Will miss ya buddy. As good of a friend you were in the 90's when we worked together, you were super nice to my wife and then later my kids as well. Will never EVER forget that. Tweaked your most famous easter egg a little. Hope you don't mind Rich. #RIPLevelord

#StarTrekMarathon #StarTrek Discovery Episode 20 - Saints of Imperfection Various plot points are pushed forward including the Search for Spock. The big part is we find out that Emperor Georgiou has joined up with Section 31 (masquerading as Prime Georgiou). We also get introduced to Leland, who is

a S31 operative. He becomes much more important later on. The bulk of the ep is about rescuing Tilly with an odd jump by the ship. It's a bit of a deus ex machina, but in rescuing Tilly, they also resurrect Culber. This is where the season arc crystallizes for me. Good episode, and nice visuals.
