On Sunday I invited my lab over for a backyard bonfire and bioblitz. My favorite find was this marbled orb weaver (upside down), which retreated from its sizable web into this rolled up hackberry leaf - a refuge presumably of its own crafting.

Looking for a postdoc? I know a really good candidate who's seeking a position. Great abstract thinker, strong evo/popgen background and CPU & statistical skills, some math & wet lab exp. Boundless curiosity, scholarly, helps everyone. High impact paper from PhD so far. Message me for details!

@siyuan-feng.bsky.social led this project developing a new statistical framework that leverages replication to better estimate quantitative trait differentiation (QST) and identify potential locally adaptive traits. Next goal is to apply it to multi-omic data (chromatin/RNA/protein). Stay tuned!

My lab has an open staff position. It's for 1 year; could be nice for a recent grad building up their experience. But please share promptly: apps due by end of Thursday! The focus is on variation among labs' copies of common lab stocks like Canton-S & Oregon-R. jobs.wisc.edu/jobs/researc...

Climate change haiku time: In thirty-six years, Have we really even tried? Summer scorches now. 36 years is referencing to the first report in 1990 of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which warned of the future we're now inhabiting. Want to add your own climate change haiku?

Big news this week from The Rogers Lab. We will be moving to GW University in Washington DC, starting August 1st. We will be hiring postdocs and recruiting new students! Email me if interested or come find me at SMBE!

A bit of caution for those who attended #DROS26 - although I ran into a lot of great people, unfortunately I also ran into COVID. The people who were wearing masks in crowded poster sessions look pretty smart about now!

I had a really nice time in Chicago catching up with old friends at #Dros26, and also meeting new people - like blues legend Buddy Guy! (OK not at the conference itself, but still pretty crazy)

You are up to date.
