Okay, starting my thread of comics threads. You can find the older threads (for now) on X/Twitter. First thread: 5501-5594 is here, with Scott Summers fighting a giant octopus. bsky.app/profile/john...

I'm moving my comics tweeting (skeeting?) over here to Bsky, with Cyclops and a giant octopus, I guess. This thread will be #5501-5600 of the Complete Marvel Reading Order (cmro.travis-starnes.com). I did the first 5500 (!) comics over on Twitter. Anyway, Cyclops! Giant Octopus! Let's begin.

When Jen is asking this she's not asking about a fictional movie character, but about an actual giant lizard named Godzilla, who was defeated by the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and SHIELD.

Monica doesn't get a full character assassination over the next year of comics, but it's definitely too bad we don't get a chance to see her mature into a good leader instead of being sabotaged by the creative team and taken off the board for years and years.

I remember when the She-Hulk show came out and a bunch of random lesbians were angry that Jen was straight and, I mean, Jen is extremely straight.

The Awesome Android is back. Apparently he's been living in a barn in Ohio since a Cap issue I don't remember very well.

Marrina, Namor, the Black Knight, She-Hulk, Doctor Druid, and the Monica version of Captain Marvel is maybe the least iconic Avengers line-up of all time.

Namor treating Marrina, an actual veteran of a real superteam (well, Alpha Flight, but still) the same way Cap is treating Vagabond, a girl who likes to cosplay.

It's 1987, so the Fixer straight up murders the dude who he mind controlled to free him. I generally think it's unwise to make all your chump villains into cold-blooded murderers like this, but I am not a comic writer working in the wake of Watchmen, I guess.

Dane still brooding about Jan. Look, you either talk to her and tell her how you feel or you put it behind you. No brooding.

Time for Heavy Metal, which is sort of the last story of Roger Stern's Avengers run (he plotted the first two issues) or else the beginning of the four year period of short runs between Stern and Harras. (Macchio, Simonson, Byrne, Nicieza, Hama all get short runs here. Longest is Byrne with 13)

Man likes a winner. This is what will happen in the immediate aftermath of next Tuesday, too -- Trump's impulse to suck up to the winner will overwhelm any attempted election stealing

We seem to be getting a *lot* of pretty prominent former Republican elected officials endorsing Democrats this cycle.

South Carolina's former governors Jim Hodges, a Democrat, and David Beasley, a Republican, shoot a joint 60-second ad endorsing Annie Andrews for Senate. You can watch it here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARZ5...

What is healthy for the practice of democratic self-government is developing strong rooting interests in Fianna Fail vs. Fine Gael in Ireland.

Yes well it does require things like “empathy” and possessing a basic understanding that all of our lives are interconnected

I know I'm not fixed ears Rob Lowe, but I'd like to think I'm blue guy with antennas. However, I am probably actually the ginger.
