Big into blues/rock and imaginative poetry. An analogue man in a digital world. I don't know what the question is, but the answer is vinyl, and the printed word and a bit of photography. There's enough for all, but the rich want it all.

This day in 1968 saw the start of the two day San Francisco International Pop Festival at the Alameda County Fairgrounds. And, as you can see plenty of talent awaited the concert goers,

Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie on stage with Fleetwood Mac at JFK Stadium, Philadelphia, July 1978. They played two nights at the venue as part of their 'Rumours' tour, which they called "The Penguin Summer Country Safari." They had taken a break from working on their "Tusk" album, to go back on

the road. "Rumours" had been released in February 1977, Billboard, Cash Box & Record World all named "Rumours" as album of the year for 1977. By February 1978 it won the Grammy for Album of the Year.

"Van Helen" 1978 Their self-titled debut album. Formed by Eddie van Halen & his brother Alex. The album is stadium in scope, but club in manner, direct & dynamic. Although a studio album it has a 'live' feel. Eddie van Halen uses a soloing technique called 'tapping' which uses both hands on the

fretboard. On the run up to the album's launch, Eddie would play his solos with his back turned to the audience at live gigs, in order to hide the technique. The album peaked at #19 in the US and #34 in the UK.

When a music journalist said to Tom Waits that his voice sounded like it had been soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in a smokehouse for a few months & then taken outside & run over by a car. Waits replied "Flattery will get you nowhere with me."

This month in 1969, Columbia Records took legal action to prevent the bootleg sales of Bob Dylan's "Great White Wonder" recordings, which were previously unreleased. Columbia successfully shut down certain pressing plants & seized thousands of the records. But they failed to stop the bootleg

bonanza, as the master tapes were already out, and other underground bootleggers copied the audio, and pressed their own copies. The album was nicknamed the "Great White Wonder" due to the original pressing's plain white gatefold cover.

I went to try out a new restaurant in our area. As I was browsing through the menu I asked a waiter, "Is fish one of the specials?" He thought for a moment, and said,"No, I think he was the lead singer in Marillion?"

The Clash in Belfast, 1977. They were due to launch their'Get Out Of Control' tour at Belfast's Ulster Hall,on 20 October. But the gig was cancelled at the last minute due to the withdrawal of insurance liability over fears of civil disorder(which was never far away in those days).Photo: Adrian Boot.

Marianne Faithfull in the Salisbury pub, London, 1964. The media generally portrayed her as being the muse for the Rolling Stones. Which did not do her artistic justice, she fought sexism and addiction to be rightly acknowledged as an artist in her own right.

Check out her superb album "Broken English" 1979. Her voice is profound, edgy, with a unique attitude. Her individualism can be summed up in her own words, "F--king hell, before I die I'm going to show you b-----ds who I am."

Mick Ronson and David Bowie, on stage at London's Hammersmith Odeon, 3 July, 1973. It was also the night that Bowie announced the retirement of his Ziggy Stardust persona. Photo: Debi Doss.

Carole King "Tapestry" 1971 The album secured Carole King's standing as a remarkable songwriter. "Tapestry" has become one of the all-time classic albums to emerge from the 1970's. In the 1960's King and her then husband, Gerry Goffin, penned a series of hits for other artists,

"One Fine Day", "Take Care Of My Baby", "Up On The Roof" and "The Loco-Motion" are a few of them. But as an artist in her own right " Tapestry" Positions King with the greats. It peaked at #1 on the US Billboard Top LP's, spending 15 weeks in the top position, and 300 weeks overall on the charts.

"Buckingham Nicks" 1973 Lindsey Buckingham & Stevie Nicks arrived in Los Angeles in 1972 hoping to start a musical career. To save on their sparse resources they stayed with their producer, Keith Olsen in Coldwater Canyon, whilst they worked part time jobs, and wrote songs for their album.

Their album, "Buckingham Nicks" was a commercial flop on its release. But they got a lucky break when Olsen played some of their songs to Mick Fleetwood, who was visiting Sound City Studios, Fleetwood liked what he heard, and in 1975 Buckingham & Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac.
