Taken this week, the beautiful rose ‘Bordure Abricot’ still flowering away in the greenhouse. One advantage of having some of your roses in pots. The weather seems set fair for gardening so that’s where I shall be today. I wish you an enjoyable day whatever you are up to. #roseWednesday #roses 🌱

Nemesia is such a useful, versatile plant to have in the garden. This is ‘Karoo Pink’ that I keep in white pots which look great. It’s a half hardy perennial; I bring it into the greenhouse in the winter where it keeps flowering. Cut it right back in the spring and off it goes again. #gardening 🌱

The tree fuchsia (Fuchsia arborescens) has come inside for the winter. It’s not frost tolerant. Great specimen plant with fabulous inflorescences and dark red berries. Dead easy to take cuttings from. #gardening 🌱

If your garden roses, like mine here, have developed very long stems through the autumn, I would advise cutting them off to the normal shape of the rose now. Strong autumn and winter winds can otherwise catch the plant causing root rock which weakens the plant. #gardening #rosecare

It’s a joy to see the roses that are still going in the garden. Won’t last too much longer so good to enjoy them while they are keeping the garden bright. Here are a couple of favs this week, ‘Linda Lee’ (L) and ‘Anne’s Rose’. Have a great #roseWednesday. #gardening #roses 🌱

It doesn’t last long, but when Rhus ‘Tiger Eyes’ is showing it’s autumn colours like this it brings the whole garden alive. Have a good day, gardening or otherwise. #gardens #autumn 🌱

For today’s #roseWednesday this is ‘Sandringham’ in the garden a few days ago still flowering profusely. A strong, upright rose with a lovely colour and petal formation. From Peter Beales roses. #roses #gardening 🌱

Good morning John, have a nameless orange rose from Abergavenny in return.

The rose ‘Warm Welcome’ is still flowering away quite happily. Lovely small-medium sized semi-double flowers on this short climber. It is currently in a large pot that I moved into the greenhouse yesterday to keep it looking good as we move into a week of more uncertain weather. #roses #gardening 🌱

Start our week with beauty, peace & reflection 💜 A Swan on the River Yonne in France. I hope we all have a good start to Monday, take care..xx #purereflection #blueskymondayreflection

Good morning one and all. The Gazanias have continued long into the autumn in these parts, however with colder nights ahead this might be the beginning of their decline in the garden. Still it’s been a great season. Have a great day. #gardening 🌱

Newly launched this year by Peter Beales Roses in conjunction with Bonne Maman, this is ‘La Madeleine’. It has the sumptuous buttery-yellow colour of a classic Madeleine, and is a prolific repeat flowering variety. It’s taken well in the garden. #roseWednesday #gardening 🌱

Good morning one and all. The rose season continues in the garden. This is ‘Sweet Honey’ yesterday, a very worthy rose of the year. Have a wonderful day. #roseWednesday #roses #gardening 🌱

Midgley Moor sits in the triangle between Hebden Bridge, Halifax and Oxenhope, in #WestYorkshire, rising to its highest point at White Hill. It is heather moorland with a number of standing stones, cairns and other interesting rock formations. Route at www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/West...

Sprays of pink are continuing the rose season into autumn in the garden. The polyantha rose, ‘The Fairy’ is tough and bright, apt for a rainy autumn day. Hope you have a good one. #roseWednesday #gardening 🌱

A good day to all. Rosa ‘Gabriel Oak’ is looking really good at the moment, bordered by the odd cream-pink bloom of rosa ‘Emily Brontë’ and behind rosa ‘Strawberry Hill’ standing tall. All by David Austin roses. #gardening 🌱

The continued good weather this month has kept the garden roses in good shape, though I am having to do a bit of watering still. Here are a few from this week to brighten up our #roseWednesday. #roses #gardening 🌱

Spent the day as a volunteer in a vineyard picking the grapes. Very hard work, but the sugar content is high after the long hot summer and they are predicting a good, and possibly vintage, year for English wines. #winery #vineyards #Englishwine

Red is a strong colour in the garden so can clash. By chance I think I’ve found that dark green is a good backdrop for them. This is rose ‘Frilly Cuff’ in front of a Euonymous japonica (Jean Hughes) hedge. #GardensHour #gardening 🌱

#GardensHour Had a good chilli harvest this year. Currently drying them before blitzing for a bit in a nutribullet then bottling as chilli flakes which will last for the next year with some to give away. Variety De Cayenne. #gardening 🌱

Most early autumns see the roses still producing flowers but smaller and fewer in number. Not this year though, in my garden they are still going very strong. This is Gabriel Oak by David Austin, enjoying a rare bit of rain water. #gardening #roses 🌱

Fab beechwood yesterday. Non locals are surprised we have so much woodland in Norfolk. We’ll soon be kicking through heaps of fallen leaves. Little sign of good fungi yet, probably because it’s still too dry in these parts. #woodland #Norfolk

Morning #bridgewednesday Hope we all have a wonderful day! I am making my way home today after a wonderful wee trip in Scotland. Memories made, experiences stored, smiles made & strangers met. 💜 Have a great day! 🍂🍁🚐💜 xx #alt

Something to brighten up your day on this #roseWednesday. I took this pic of Cream Babylon Eyes last week just after I planted it. It’s rose number 100 in the garden and she is a beauty. As a Persica type it also comes with an element of drought resistance. #roses #gardening 🌱

A new week and we’ve had some decent rain over the weekend to keep the roses happy. This is the wonderful ‘Chandos Beauty’ by Harkness. A hybrid tea with strong fragrance. Wishing everyone a great week ahead. #gardening #roses 🌱

Keep feeding your roses. It’s prime time for roses to develop black spot or mildew, particularly older varieties that are less disease resistant. Use liquid tomato feed, and a top up with rose fertiliser will see them through the rest of the season. #roses #gardening 🌱

Late flowering perennials come into their own in September. Rudbeckias are especially useful; in this bed I planted ‘Goldstrum’ in front of ‘Prairie Glow’ exactly a year ago. #GardensHour #gardening 🌱

This rose is ‘Elizabeth’ from DA, a lovely specimen plant in the garden. It has flowered continuously since May and has proved itself to be very robust whatever the weather. Mine grows vigorously to over 5’ x 4’, and if you have space I highly recommend it. #RoseWednesday #roses #gardening 🌱
