We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Borlaug Elementary community. Tragedy is never easy, & our hearts are w/ those affected. We hold space for the students, families, staff, & loved ones who are grieving and send wishes for comfort, strength, and support in the days ahead.

We mourn the loss of two more U.S. service members & extend our deepest condolences to their families, friends, & fellow service members. As we honor those lost, we must continue to demand answers, transparency, & accountability from those making decisions that place American troops in harm's way.

Miller-Meeks was in Johnson County 3 times during the last congressional break & every single event was closed-door. Not 1 opportunity for residents to ask questions or hear from her. Just curated photo ops & social media posts trying to rebrand the shortcomings of the “Big Beautiful Bill.”

During Women’s History Month, we’re proud to spotlight three incredible women advocates in Johnson County who are creating meaningful change in our community. This initiative, created by our DEI Committee, celebrates their leadership, compassion, and dedication to uplifting others.

NEW: Under Trump, the national average gas price has soared to $4 a gallon. Americans just experienced the largest monthly increase in gas prices ever recorded. Trump’s war with Iran is raising prices everywhere.

We recognize and uplift the voices, experiences, and contributions of trans individuals today and every day. And we recommit ourselves to building a world where everyone is safe, respected, and empowered to be exactly who they are. You are seen. You are valued. You belong. 🩵🤍🩷🏳️‍⚧️

Today we celebrate by recognizing the diverse voices, talents, & leadership of women everywhere. We’re grateful for the women who shape our world every day. Let’s continue building spaces where women of all backgrounds and identities feel respected, supported, and empowered to thrive.

We mourn the loss of the three American service members killed in the escalating conflict between the United States and Iran. We hold their loved ones in our hearts and honor their ultimate sacrifice. We are also thinking of those injured and praying for their full and speedy recovery.

The decision to bomb Iran raises serious concerns about proportionality, congressional authorization, and long-term strategy. The U.S. experience in Iraq and Afghanistan demonstrates that military force without a clear, achievable objective can spiral into decades of instability.

We honor the life and legacy of Jesse Jackson, a tireless champion for civil rights, economic justice, & political empowerment. He reminded us to “keep hope alive”. This is not just as a slogan, but a call to action. We remember his courage, his faith, & his unwavering commitment to justice.

Micayla Pretti, younger sister of Alex Pretti, speaks out. "Alex was kind, generous, and had a way of lighting up every room he walked into. He was incredibly intelligent and deeply passionate, and he made people feel safe. But most importantly, he was my brother."

Happy Statehood Day, Iowa. 178 years in, too many workers are leaving, budgets are strained by one-party rule, and our state leads the nation in cancer diagnoses. Johnson County Democrats are fighting for working families, healthcare, and an Iowa people can afford to stay in. The work continues.

Happy Kwanzaa! As we honor the principles of unity, self-determination, collective work, & care for one another, we hold space for those facing hardship this season. May this time be one of reflection, resilience, & renewed commitment to building a more just & compassionate community for all. 🖤❤️💚
