Released a massive update of my coffee timer app, Single Origin. I wanted to brew the roaster-created recipes available on the Fellow Aiden & xBloom, so I built an app that guides you through every pour, agitation, etc. Since it's built with Expo, it runs on iOS, WatchOS, Android, & Web. πŸ‘‡

The iOS queue times for Free plan users on @expo.dev were around 4 hours at this time last week. We increased our Mac capacity today. We're seeing <10 min queue times right now. ⚑ Subscribers are seeing 0 min queue times.

We're keeping a close eye on queue times to make sure it's consistently better. It's really important to us that building your app on Expo is a nice experience, especially when you're working on a passion project.

Just launched the first version of the React Native Directory VS Code extension! πŸŽ‰ Now you can effortlessly discover & integrate React Native libraries into your project, without leaving VS Code. Give it a try and let me know what you think! πŸ‘‡ πŸ”— marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemNa...

πŸ†• EAS Workflows (our React Native CI/CD) is now GA and available on our free tier. This is a massively important service for speeding up your team and establishing consistency. Watch @jonsamp.dev's vid and then go give it a try for free. youtu.be/OJ2u9tQCpr4

We released a product called workflows, a React Native CI/CD, late last year. Heard a *ton* of feedback and there are a lot of new features. Let's dive in: πŸ—ΊοΈ We now display a topologically sorted map of your workflow, so you can see what's in progress, finished, failed, etc.

That's it for today. We're still working on a bunch of things, like approval jobs, more pre-packaged jobs (like fingerprint), and later cron jobs for the biweekly release crowd. Is there a feature you'd love to see? Lmk!

🀳 Our UI is made for app developers. That means you can publish an update and your team will see a QR code to preview it in seconds. We'll also show you compatible builds for that update. Or you can even open it in Orbit!

πŸ“š We have updated docs. Check out our new examples doc, which has easy to copy/edit workflow configs. We also have a new syntax guide. It's now easier to figure out everything you can automate.

✍️ We also made the list of jobs on the page match your YAML config. Why? You might have 10 jobs, then a build at the end, and you want your team to download the build. This makes it so that you can put the build first in your YAML and it'll appear above the fold.

πŸ”„ You can now re-run entire workflows or from failed jobs. When you confirm, you'll *instantly* see the new workflow re-running. Great for flakey Maestro tests.

Since we stayed home for the holidays, I was able to get a lot of "someday list" stuff done. First up, built these shelves for my workshop. Now I have a joinery-station. Pocket hole jig, screws, bolts, glue, drills, clamps, etc.

And finally, played through Celeste A sides again. Fun to go back. Now i need to find/complete all the B sides and C sides again.

My dad got some vinyl tint for his headlights, but didn't know how to put it on. Me neither! I think it went pretty well. Now his car has sunglasses 😎

I also got a Stream Deck and made a bunch of custom icons for it. This thing is awesome. Spending some time to automate things just feels so good.

Next up, I finally learned some CAD to model a tablet holder for a HomeAssistant tablet. If you haven't tried HA, it's amazing. 100% recommend.

I also have these MSR II mmWave presence sensors to kick off automations, like turning on lights/monitor CO2. I designed/printed this right-angle cord holder.

Has this been the best year for React Native and Expo ever? It's definitely up there! So much to recap. If you're a bit behind on the latest, this blog will get you up to speed 🏎️

Just turned off Apple Intelligence on all my devices and realized I was better off before. Some realizations: Apple is terrified of results that are unsavory, which means AI generated content is nearly useless. Here I tried to use the Image Playground to create images of me, angry or sad. Baha wat?

And the AI generated summaries are ... weird? Like this one: bsky.app/profile/jons... Instead of showing me a butchered summary of text my partner wrote, why not prioritize all the messages humans wrote in an actionable list?

Jon Samp@jon.expo.app

My partner texted me about an exercise ball. Apple’s AI summary almost made me spew my coffee:

Just in time for the holidays: I updated my Scrabble word checker app. πŸ“š New official dictionaries (all local) πŸ’… Updated UI and animations πŸ‘¨β€πŸ’» SDK 52, expo-sqlite, splash screen, workflows, and more! It's free! It's open source! I hope you don't lose your turn.

I made this on a Sunday years ago after finding a lot of ad-riddled websites that had sketchy word lists. Now we can play with official word lists, and without seeing anagrams/etc. One thing I love about RN/Expo is that you can make small hobby projects, like I used to with websites/blogs.

Come have a coffee with us! β˜•οΈ
