AI generated content has a multiplicity problem. IYKYK Multiplicity was an iconic 1996 film about a man who clones himself. But he learned that a clone of a clone of a clone loses quality. I see something similar happening with AI slop.

We have a metrics problem in SEO. We measure KPIs instead of business outcomes. Stop celebrating SEO wins with traffic charts. Executive leadership doesn't care about traffic. They care about topline and bottomline revenue, reputation, loyalty, brand awareness and equity.

SEOs need to be comfortable tying KPIs to business outcomes like revenue and profitability. Here are some questions we should be asking: How many conversions did organic traffic deliver? How much revenue did it drive? By how much did you reduce CPA by investing in SEO vs PPC?

On August 12th there were two big changes to the SERP landscape for brand name searches. 👇 1) 85% DECREASE in the number of brands showing video carousels. 2) 3x INCREASE in the number of brands showing Latest Posts carousels. Anyone else see this?

4 domains consistently dominate AIO citations for Fortune 1000 brand name searches over the last 90 days (none were Reddit) - Wikipedia - YouTube - LinkedIn - Yahoo Finance Reddit didn't even make the top 20. And AIOs show up 2x more often than 6 months ago. #seo #aeo #geo #brand #reputation

I’ve always said, if you have to hide the unsubscribe button to improve your unsubscribe rate, the problem isn’t the button … 😁

Just shipped one-click unsubscribes for SendCheckIt's emails. Gmail and Yahoo have required this from bulk senders since 2024, and Microsoft's Outlook rules from last May expect an easy unsubscribe too. The entire feature is two email headers:

Three AIO stats you need to know— 1) 1 in 4 brands now has an AIO for its brand name, up from 10% in January 2) AIO citations now take up 16% of all page one links, 4x as many as in January 3) Brands only control 35% of those brand name AIO citations

Most people think reputation management is about hiding bad news. It's actually about patching vulnerabilities in your search profile. Take Supermicro. An audit of their SERP highlights a significant vulnerability in their 'perspectives' feed.

It's never possible to drown out all negativity. But with the right strategy, Supermicro could claw back some control over the feature and reduce narrative risk — especially during media crises.

Today, Apple officially joined the personalized search game, granting Siri the power to answer questions from the web on virtually any topic using personal context and broad world knowledge. If #SEO / #AEO were getting dull for you, this should spice things up!

Main difference between #SEO and #AEO? You're optimizing for different outcomes: Clicks vs Control. SEO optimizes for clicks 🚘 [performance metric]💰 AEO optimizes for messaging 💬 [brand metric] ❤️

Technology surfaces insights. Humans translate signals into strategy. Take CarMax for example. Its unfavorable search landscape is driven by Perspectives and Video carousels sourced from a few content creators across a handful of domains, as well as organic listings and PAAs.

Understanding these details, CarMax can build a strategy to publish more video content on controllable sources like Facebook and YouTube. It can also work with influential content creators to reshape sentiment across third-party sources. And it can increase control over its organic results

Google: “Don’t create commodity content” Also Google: “Here are the top 10 SEO companies that recommended themselves” 🙄 Until Google fixes the root of the problem, commodity content isn’t going anywhere.

Video carousels represent a major opportunity for Fortune 1000 brands to control their search narrative. 42% of Fortune 1000 companies have a video carousel for brand name searches. 25% of the links in those carousels point to brand-controlled assets.

AIOs are more likely to show up for branded searches on Sundays and Mondays This chart shows the percentage of all Fortune 1000 brands with an AIO present every day for the last 90 days for brand name searches What do you think might be causing this pattern? #seo #aeo #geo #google #brand #aio

Here's a snapshot of today's SERP features across all Fortune 1000 companies for brand name searches. The length of the bar is the % of brands with each feature. The red segment is the % of brands with at least one negative listing in each feature.

It’s an incredible honor to accept Terakeet ’s Values in Action award for Excellence! I’m fortunate to get to work with some truly talented and amazing people every single day. #gratitude

This is what a brand crisis looks like as it erupts in the media and permeates the SERP. 🚨 Media sentiment abruptly shifts 📣 Top Stories module is inundated with negative news 📹 Videos are overrun by unfavorable stories 🗣️ Topics and discussions turn negative
