AOTY 2024 Here is my long-delayed AOTY list for 2024. It’s mostly, but not all heavy music. There were some great metal albums this year, but also some of the best new college rock that I’ve heard in a while. If you’re interested in my previous lists on Twitter, they’re here. x.com/jonathanurba...

Morning gym banger.

My mom clipped this New Yorker cartoon. Still relevant, I think.

My parents had this little ashtray from the 1960s, but it's was more edgy and counter culture than the parents I knew. Wondering if there was a story behind this.

Found this cool party napkin from the '70s.

This is a lox and bagel server. I never knew this existed. Wild what I'm finding in my parents' basement.

Far from being a typical Earth song, and driven as much by Rabia Shaheen Qazi's vocals as by Dylan Carlson's riffs, "From the Zodiacal Light" really has a life of it's own.

I ate so much food yesterday it's literally coming out of my ass

I was on the T this morning, and a woman sitting across from me remarked that she liked my shirt and asked me if I had seen Sumac at Somergloom, and we ended up chatting about the Boston doom scene. Turned out she was one of the Somergloom organizers. So, a pretty good morning so far.

My week in audio.

The name of this album, "Al meu pas s'alça la mort" is Catalan for "Death rises in my steps". Great band, Ósserp.

Fascinating band history, here. youtu.be/A7N27Nk0d8Q?...

I just hate that we’re all along for the ride as Joe Rogan and his millions of followers learn in real time how things on the Earth work.

I don't want to wager, but I'll cheer when it happens.

My week in audio.

Such a badass album. Every song's a banger.

I was so young when I first heard '39, and it was the first time I can remember being aware of relativity. A little science concealed in a song about loss. youtu.be/zBQYxomCE1s?...

My listens last week.

A morning gym banger. This bridge here at 1:26 is so good.

You're not the one who let me down, but thanks for offering...

Los capibaras son como todo lo bueno que hay en el mundo En un mundo tan cruel, hay que ser más como los capibaras
