Thoughts: a different way to communicate with my team... Instead of "here are our goals, what's your plan?" - to - "How would you go if we want to achieve this goal?" 1. gives focus 2. perhaps stops me from giving my solution 🤷‍♂️

🌶️ take: microservices can use the same DB. Ignore 1 DB per service rule With these constraints: 1. limited by one writer/owner and everyone read-only. 2. Backwards compatible and versioned schema just like a public http API.

Good advice. Works for me. I type out my doc/report/msg and then read it the following day before I send it off. I always miss something

Some people went to charm school. You'll feel great after those calls. Some people didn't, and other things are at play. Non-neurodivergent people might communicate differently. Give yourself a buffer from decisionmaking- one day later you might have a better read on signal/noise, charm wears off

IME Companies do Pull Requests because teams are lacking confidence and trust in each other and their code. If ease to fix and pivot is high, people are forced to get it right the first time round. PR provides you that safety blanket 👶🧸👨‍🍼!

New blog: I’ll admit, this one’s a bit of a ramble, mostly because I care a lot about how we give feedback, how we receive it, and why it so often feels like an attack (even when it isn’t). TL;DR: Feedback is care, when it’s done with intention. ashley.dev/posts/feedba...

Just a few more days🙌 Monday we will release the first episode, 2 more that very week and then every Monday morning from there on

star studded lineup! Excited to hear the first episode!

Weekly Dev's Brew@weeklybrew.dev

🎙️ So grateful to officially launch The Weekly Dev's Brew Podcast! To all the incredible guests who've already sat down with me @marktechson.com, @joshuakgoldberg.com @patak.dev @nearestnabors.com - thank you for your time and genuinely fascinating conversations.

pro Reno tip: you can never have two little power points. The price you pay upfront is worth it. Even if during planning you're thinking you may not need devices/appliances plugged there, you may be wrong! Just do it - don't reason it out. I regret now....

what I want google.com to do: ask it a question, advice or opinion and it provides answers and if there's a purchase or further actions provide me websites of services that fulfills it and summarise what they offer. Not far-fetched I reckon!

🌶️ take: RESTful API is overrated. RPC is fine. REST makes sense when you have little clue on what the API has to offer and it provides a very sane and conventional way of CRUD. But really who ignores docs, uses the API and just hopes for HATEAOS?

Love to work at place that agrees with my 🌶️ takes: - first-class auto-test - document a must (ADR etc) - trunk-based - deployment ≠ release - test in production - no estimates - uses shape-up - contented decisions = no need for backlog tech debt. - pair and mob > solo heroes

I've come to understand "shielding your team" doesn't mean not sharing back-office discussions or pressure from higher-ups. It is removing them from meetings/discussion that doesn't concern them with their current or next in line tasks. Keep them in the flow state.

When you read a method's comment that says: - "These args only work for..." - "Don't do this when..." - "Apply for particular use cases..." - "Ignore these for..." - "Made specifically for..." 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧!

An issue (one of the many) I have with story point estimation is that it doesn't give space to improve the implementation. Any pain/drag is thrown as tech debt that never gets prioritise. One can say code isn't important - working software is. BUT bad software is going to slow you down in the future

Was asked what my "Sprint planning secret" was. My secret is to do something effective instead of a fake-Agile waterfall-planning session complete with SWAG story-point estimates and tactical planning—something that makes no room for learning as we work. Instead, pick a single story. 1/5

Hi #trunkbased developers, do you use any shift-left tools that ensure good code gets checked before push? (IE auto code analysis, test run completed, security deps checks, all done before a commit is pushed)

My Coding Manifesto 🔸Pragmatic not dogmatic. 🔸Patterns over divergence. 🔸Calculated-risk not blasé-development. 🔸Explicit not magical. 🔸Simple over complicated. 🔸Readable not over-engineered. 🔸Complex but guided. 🔸Common language over technical sounding. 🔸CUPID principle.

Honestly curious on #gitflow and why #developers still swear by it. If you're that developer and you have tried other branching strategies (ie #trunkbased) would love to know your reasoning? Not even gonna debate - just want to know your point! #Agile

I would hire any seasoned @angular Dev for non-ng roles. They understand DI (SOLID), modularity, component architecture, observables, signals, composable patterns, declarative type... even if they don't know the terms, they most probably will have been exposed.

about this TS vs JS. I do enjoy the benefits of TS but I think the tooling has made us sloppy Devs. Ruby got it right. The lack of typing forces people to write more intuitive code, better testing and some may say elegant.

I got a HP spectre thinking I could use it as a tablet in bed or on the couch. it is still way too heavy to use comfortably. If I'm going to be at a table - always laptop. 2-in-1s are no where near its full potential. Should just stick to purpose made devices for now

These throwable fire extinguishers seem like a real-life example of xkcd.com/937 — they have really good reviews from everyone except the few people who tried using them to put out fires

is anyone here using react / interested in tweets about react and js stuff? considering just moving here for real
