apologies to Brewers fans, you should enjoy it, but has this been one of the most forgettable postseasons ever? probably not, because I'm sure I've forgotten plenty, but only one series after the first round went to a deciding game and the only thing I can remember is ty france's roof ball

probably gonna delete but sometimes dads gotta brag: kid is going to the state hs xc meet next week as the only freshman on his team (and he had the best freshman time in the district finals today) 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

few things more joyful than to see the shy student you worried was disengaged or confused just deliver a Misiorowski fastball of a paper, a clever, literate, sophisticated banger that leaves your laptop screen a smoking husk

*Wemby blocks a shot* "and Brunson just got Southern Reached! you do NOT enter Area X when the Lighthouse is in the lane! is he a tunnel or is he a TOWER"

Wemby, of the San Antonio Spurs, reading a copy of Annihilation he checked out of the library.

almost to the end of vol 4 of In Search of Lost Time, still hope to finish the whole thing by the end of the year things Marcel loves to do 1. go to parties 2. talk shit about everyone at the party 3. go on car/carriage/train rides (usually to get handsy with Albertine) 4. get real sad about time

A whole generation of policymakers is going to have to relearn how the creation of the welfare state was not some grand act of generosity (one of its architects was Bismarck FGS) but rather a crucial means to ensure social stability and state legitimacy that democracies and markets need to function

I've gone from "you will pry my em-dashes from my cold dead hands" to "eh, it's probably good to break out of old habits of style and pay closer attention to my prose voice"

Ted Underwood@tedunderwood.com

I'm on the other side of this one, actually. Style counts. If people can hear modelspeak in your prose, it weakens the effect in the same way overusing clichés weakens the effect. I don't care *how* you get there, but if an editor says "this doesn't sound fresh and authentic," you have a problem.

Aaron is such a warm and generous dude--we talked for about an hour an a half, and I would've happily jawed for a few hours more.

Had to replenish the podcast stash this weekend, so recorded three episodes with guests @jonhegglund.bsky.social @theyarejett.bsky.social and a Savannah Bananas ep with an alumni of #athletics Twitter. All three were great and I can’t wait to share them with y’all!

ok, signs of life. garbage time points for sure, but Eshelman is way more promising than Pinnick. still feel like Moore taking risks earlier in the game could have made some kind of difference. still contributing to the buyout

pray for jack, he's not in a good place rn

I’m texting with my friend who is a Dodgers fan with the temperament of a Mariners or Mets fan. It’s like consoling a billionaire who is lamenting a high electric bill

oh ho ho ho, "health insurance," such a whimsical reason to continue to work at a job that you no longer wanted to, oh these "salt of the earth" ballplayers with their jibes and jabes

What a country!

officiating my seventh (?) wedding this weekend, and it is truly one of the most joyous things to do. it's kind of like teaching a 15-minute class but everyone is really happy to be there

Given the prevalence of AI, I will no longer accept electronic submissions in this course. Students must write their essays longhand on fine parchment, in fraktur, and enclose them in a small matching envelope tied with a silk ribbon and stamped with the wax seal of their family.
