Ah yes. Democracies famously don’t allow their populations to influence or change any decisions made in the past.

“The perception that promises can subsequently be revisited by a political establishment removed from the realities of working communities has left lasting scars”, writes Labour MP @melanieonnmp.bsky.social 🗣️ EU free movement debate risks undermining voter trust www.politics.co.uk/2026/10/mela...

I got a different Nobel Peace Prize anyway. From a different committee. You wouldn’t know them. They go to a different Norway.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

Norway: "I didn't get the Nobel Prize so I don't want anybody from Norway. I don't want anything to do with Norway…Frankly, Norway sucks. Norway has become a shithouse country, actually."

More winning. An offal lot of winning.

RFK Jr. suggests Americans can more easily afford groceries if they start eating liver instead of beef: "Most of the cheap cuts of meat are very inexpensive. You can buy liver or the cheap cuts."

Stinging nettles are also an excellent source of protein. But the point I’m surviving on nettles and oats might be the when I do a Yoda, ie just fade out of existence as I simply can no longer be buggered.

Porridge with a pinch of salt is a complete diet, at least for a couple of months, as generations of Scottish students knew. You can even prepare it without a heat source—let it stand in water (not milk, unless you've got electricity for refrigeration) overnight. Miserable after > 2 days, though.

Oh, you want your picture on the fridge do you little man? Well. Sit down and let me walk you through my data driven decision.

Oh, this is good.

Excited to announce this new publication - everything you ever wanted to know about the "average" human genome - from @exeter.ac.uk @nihrexeterbrc.bsky.social. Variation is the norm; everyone has rare, deleterious, de novo, and pathogenic variants! link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Nuanced take on where the Selfish Gene stands after 50 years.

When we were young kids, my sister and I would stage pretend wrestling matches. Before the match we would wave to our fans. Living rurally this involved waving to field of sheep you could see from my parents window. Anyway, here is a video of the President of the world’s most powerful country.

Hoodlum 🇺🇸@nothoodlum.bsky.social

This is just strange behavior, even from a dementia patient. Trump stops and waves. The camera zooms out to reveal that there’s nobody in the direction he’s waving. Apparently, he’s waving to the ghost of Lindsey Graham.

I’m confused by all of this. Is Liz Truzz the bank job? Is she asking for a job at the bank? How short is the book? Could I read faster or slower than it takes me to eat a lettuce?

That racist banjo player from Mumford and Sons is going to have a show isn’t he? With Lawrence Fox playing live.

My most illiberal opinions is regarding dogs. I think all dogs should be registered with an owner. Any dog poo on the street is £1000 fine. Fines collectively paid by dog owners every month. Any non registered dog immediately taken away.

Checking the BBC for “Reform advocate war crimes” headline. I’m sure it will be up in a minute.

Sunder Katwala (sundersays)@sundersays.bsky.social

Robert Jenrick for Reform says that Royal Marines using "lethal force" on small boats could end it in days. "Deploy the Royal Marines into the Channel. If they need to use lethal force then they'll be able to do so. I think the problem would come to an end within a matter of days."

We shall fight them in the hedgerows. We shall fight them in the trees. We shall fight them in their snuffly little dens.

"I have to tell you know that no such declaration has been received, and that consequently this country is at war with hedgehogs"

So much of parenting advice is about ‘doing it right’ (and warning of the dangers of doing it wrong) rather than how you forge connection and enjoyable relationships with your kids.

Gavin Jackson@gavinjackson.bsky.social

Only noticed after having a child how much of the discourse is about sacrifice, loss-of-freedom and the burden of having children rather than the fulfilment and fun. www.ft.com/content/160f...

Reform assure everyone they’ve looked into it and they did nothing wrong. In other news, outlets report surging demands for Chinny Rekon.

How will it work? Well basically it will go “Pew! Pew! Pew!” But you’ll have to ask the shadow defence secretary for the exact noise it will make.

paulusthewoodgnome@paulusthewoodgnome.bsky.social

"I'm not a defence expert." Even by Kemi Badenoch's lamentable standards, this is agonising. Just give thanks she will never, ever be Prime Minister. 🙏 #politicslive
