The way I could, and honestly might, write an entire book about the way that @mikeflanaganfilm.com adapts pre-existing narratives. Every one feels very clearly like HIS version of the story while still making fans feel satisfied and I want to break it down at a micro-level.

I hate to be pessimistic, but honestly I feel like the wave of frat bros being held accountable for rape rn is going to follow the same pattern as BLM and MeToo: everyone will fake accountability briefly and then go back to normal with no real consequences or changes.

To clarify that isn’t supposed to be salacious or drama-inducing, nor is it a gotcha. I’m just really sad. And I love Flanagan’s work and was a huge Henry Thomas fan too.

Just for the record, SNL would have censored any other slur. They didn’t censor the t slur because they didn’t think slurring trans people was a big deal. And they suck for that.

We have to get over the litigating “cancel culture”. Dog piling is bad and unhelpful. HOWEVER, we owe celebs and the rich nothing and we can stop supporting them whenever we want for any reason we want. Ed Sheeran is free to voice any opinion he wishes, and I’m free to not listen to his music.

Look, I have concerns about Greta Gerwig’s Narnia adaptation too, but this culture war nonsense just had to stop. 20 years ago if the Disney one gave Aslan different colored eyes and colored whiskers and cast a woman almost nobody would have cared much. They’re faking outrage for clicks.

Holy. Fucking. Shit.

Netflix has announced a new reality series titled ‘THE NEW STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT’. The series follows 30 participants who enter a real prison and are randomly assigned as guards or prisoners. They must see if they conform to the roles or if morality wins.

I just want to clarify: Ed Sheeran’s statement is predicated on two very obvious lies that he believes his audience is too stupid to see through. And that should, on its own, show you he’s not worth your time. Free Palestine

I went to write a whole dissertation explaining the narrative brilliance of A Series of Unfortunate Events, and its incredibly unique way of teaching children deep and meaningful empathy. How, unlike other kids stuff, it says “evil and unfairness just exist” and “there are no noble people.”

The biggest takeaway I have from the James Talarico situation is: Dude, it’s really not that hard to hire a trans person to ensure you don’t say something astronomically stupid during an incredibly close and important race.

I like NuTrek more than most people seem to but also, hey remember when Star Trek used to be fresh inventive sci-fi written by sci-fi writers who liked sci-fi? Also, remember when the world wasn’t going to end in every single episode and they didn’t have to break Starfleet protocol every ep?

Welp. That’s a wrap on me every engaging with Armchair Expert. Literally a day 1 listener, and despite previous concerns here and there, I have maintained some level of support. But that ends today.

Minor point but fuck off. Also it’s wild that your page makes you seem insufferable to me, a Frasier fan.

Minor point but I really hate this performative “y’all” people do to try and appear more folksy. I don’t type in a Yorkshire accent and I did people would rightly tell me to shut up.

I…. This is a terrible interaction. If you’re trans and find anything I said in this interaction offensive please let me know, but calling me cis and straight when I’m neither and then putting bi in quotes is fucking lame.

Crazy to see people pouring out love and support for the straight cis dude who played an offensive depiction of gender dysphoria in a bad musical. Tim Curry loved playing gender confused people despite having no authority on the subject.

You know what that Neutrogena apology doesn’t address? How they managed every aspect of her life for a decade including controlling the food she was allowed to eat(despite her having an ED), and having a morality clause she was forced to follow. Where’s the apology for that fuckfaces?

You know what I’m sick of? Seeing Hollywood come out in droves to “mourn” every former child star who dies way too young and tell these stories they think are cute or sincere. Turning people who suffered and were abused and died because of it into folktale like symbols. People who stood by and

Did nothing but somehow feel valid speaking up about their passing. Hayden Panettiere wasn’t a symbol, she’s not a cautionary tale. She was a fucking person. A person who was failed by an industry that chews up and spits out children. By anyone who had anything to gain. Burn it all down

I’m not okay. I feel like im downing. I’m heartbroken the people who literally saved my life growing up keep dying one by one. I’m tired of this world. To quote Hamilton accurately: “I imagine death so much it feels like a memory”
