Content warning: suicide After May Pollard died on a late-January morning, a detective asked her parents a question: Had anyone wanted to hurt her? “A lot of America,” her mother answered. 1/ www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

A few months ago, I saw a video of a new all-trans masculine choir in NYC. As a former a cappella fan boy in college, I ended up in a clickhole on trans choirs and choruses and then talked to groups across the country. For @nbcnews.com: www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

nbcnews.comHow trans choruses are offering safe havens for singersTransgender choruses have spread across the country, providing community for singers when state and federal policies have increasingly restricted their rights.

I spoke to LGBTQ+ artists and activists who have reclaimed Trump's catchphrase "transgender for everybody" and turned it into a rallying cry. With Eleanor Skelly, who tallied how many times Trump has said the phrase, for @nbcnews.com: www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...

nbcnews.comTrump’s catchphrase ‘transgender for everybody’ becomes an LGBTQ rallying cryLGBTQ activists have a long tradition of taking slights and slurs — like the word “queer” — and using them as a form of protest and celebration.

“I think he means it as some sort of threatening proliferation of the ‘transgender contagion,’" Rio Sofia, executive director of Queer Art, said. "So I was like, if you’re making it a threat, we can make it a promise.” www.nbcnews.com/politics/don...

I talked to LGBTQ people about what Dolly Parton meant to them. Jason Larimore listened to "Eagle When She Flies" when he was 14, and came out that same week. A decade later, when no one would hire him in his small town, he went to work at Dollywood. @nbcnews.com www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

nbcnews.com‘My darlin’ Dolly’: LGBTQ community mourns the loss of a dedicated allyDolly Parton supported LGBTQ rights as early as the 1980s and never backed down, saying in many interviews, “I do not judge.”

Larimore got to meet Dolly in 2004. “Whenever she leaned over, she put them big old Smoky Mountains on my shoulder, and she held me close,” Larimore said. “It was as if I was the only person in the world.”

A father in Idaho, speaking to police after his child died by suicide: “There is a huge amount of animosity, every single day, thrown at trans kids. The whole fucking country. The whole fucking administration, every single fucking day.” Please read this important story by @joyurcaba.bsky.social

But, as many people in Boise told me, May lived under the shadow of the state capitol, which had enacted 15 laws targeting LGBTQ people in just the last few years of her life. She poured her emotions into poetry, some of which you can read in the article. 4/

In May, Idaho's AG declared victory when a suit against a state law banning transgender students from using the bathrooms and locker rooms of their gender identities was dismissed. One plaintiff graduated and the other died by suicide. 2/

The 16-year-old who died was May Pollard. She went by Jane Doe in the lawsuit, because she didn't want to be an activist. She just wanted to be a teen girl who played Terraria with her friends and ran a Discord dedicated to the streamer Jerma985. 3/ www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

Congress granted funds to restore 988 services for LGBTQ+ youth months ago. But it's still gone. Here's what it looks like when a service like this is ended; almost 70,000 people reaching out for help, then a cliff.

I haven't been sharing much on here lately, and that is in part because I've been working on a big feature that should be out soon. But it's also because in February I started competing in gay rodeo. 🤠 1/

There have been some complicated parts. I am one of few out nonbinary competitors. I chose to compete with the cowboys and have received only enthusiastic support from fellow competitors. Gay rodeo is contending with the same complex conversations about gender that all other sports are. 9/

I'm currently ranked 9th in two of the speed events on horseback: pole bending and flag race. Here's me and Silver (one of the many amazing horses other competitors have let me borrow) doing flag race in Denton, Texas, in April: 7/

Gay rodeo has made me feel more alive than I've felt in a long time. Competing is fun, but the best part has been the friends and mentors I've found. Some of these people have fought to keep the rodeo around for 40+ years — they are LGBTQ+ leaders and activists. 8/

Fast forward to now: I've competed in five rodeos, and I'm leading in points for rookie of the year in the cowboys. And, to my surprise, I'm currently ranked first in the rodeo's world rankings in chute dogging, which is steer wrestling. Here's me in Denton pre-wrestling: 5/

I'm also ranked third in goat dressing, which is an event where you and a teammate put underwear on a goat as fast as possible (this is one of the events where you can make the most money, hilariously). Here’s video of that event: 6/

I promised myself that I would start competing in 2026. But I'm someone who has to jump in with both feet when I do something 😅 At finals at the end of the year, the gay rodeo awards rookie belt buckles to the new cowboy and cowgirl with the most points, so I decided to go after that buckle. 3/

In November, started riding three times a week to get back in riding shape. I reached out to the people I interviewed for that article to ask how I could borrow horses to compete in some of the horse events. Here's Rylie, the horse I leased: 4/
