Hi, I’m Jenn. I’m a media studies prof and I teach and research social media and digital culture and ALSO popular music and emotion because my ADHD extends to my research agenda. Anti-racist. Queer. Believe in liberation for all. Mom to the worst-behaved reactive dog in the world.

Today is World IVF Day, and I want to share with you our daughter’s first ever photo💜 This was our one and only embryo, and we are going to meet her in September. This process is heartbreaking and impossibly beautiful and hopeful. I want everyone to have the access and choices that we did.

The other day I was teaching about music as torture and showed images from Abu Ghraib. My students-too young or not born at the time-were shocked that this happened. A reminder that one day we will all have to answer for the atrocities of our fellow Americans who were “just following orders.”

For all of us who teach digital culture/media and tech and have to stand in front of a classroom of undergrads and refer to an important political player as “Big Balls,” we pray.

(Reuters) - The best-known member of Elon Musk's U.S. DOGE Service team of technologists once provided support to a cybercrime gang that bragged about trafficking in stolen data and cyberstalking an FBI agent, according to digital records reviewed by Reuters. #BigBalls

I have a theory that “The Giver” was automatically downloaded directly into the head of every queer lady, much like the U2 album and our iPhones, because why can I not stop singing it for the love of god

You complained last Monday that the time change was kicking your ass, I’m here complaining a whole week later that the time change is STILL kicking my ass. We are not the same (unless we are in which case can we cry together about this?)

When we talk about this golden age of television (Severance, Paradise, The Pitt, White Lotus) don’t forget about Extraction on FOX, where loved ones watch on screens as their “survivalist” friend/family member drinks dirty lake water and do nothing to intervene.

One of the groups competing is a father and son who are watching as the son’s fiancée can’t start a fire. It appears to be some sort of test to see if she’s fit for marriage, and she fails so the son doesn’t send her fire supplies when he has the opportunity to so he can teach her a lesson.

RFK Jr. wants to overly simplify the root causes of chronic disease. He ignores complex relationships with social determinants of health like access to healthcare, education, and being paid a living wage. Republicans don’t want to talk about these things because they’re “woke”.

I know nothing about him but he’s got the hair for the job, and his name sounds like pizza. That’s good enough logic for the average voter.

Florida state Sen. Jason Pizzo may run for governor in 2026. He described a scenario where “somebody like me” could get elected. “I think I would offer the best chance” for the Democrats. “When you go down the checklist of boxes, the pros and cons, yeah, I would like my chances.”

Authoritarians in countries backsliding away from democracy learned not to cancel elections. Instead, they abuse state power to give themselves unfair advantages in elections, then cite their “victory” as a source of legitimacy. US is not really at risk of no elections. The risk is unfair ones.

Liberal gallows humor holds that we won't have any more elections. But if Trump believes that Putin is a more legitimate president than Zelensky just because he had more recent "elections," I'd bet that we *will* have elections, just ones that look more and more Russian.

Major news! A court in Montana has just declared SB458, a bill that "defines sex" in a way that ends the legal recognition of transgender people in Montana, as facially unconstitutional. This is the first time a bill defining sex has been ruled on! Huge win for trans people in MT!

Reyes goes off. "You cannot tell me that transgender people are not being discriminated against." Of the Stonewall website deletion, Reyes says, "We are literally erasing their contributions to modern society. ... It screams animus."
