Winning elections and running a government are very different competencies. It's the rare case that people/parties are good at both. The common case is the former, because that's the fitness function of the system! How can we fix this?

Why aren't elevator floor buttons toggle buttons? Like if you accidentally push the wrong floor, you should be able to cancel it.

European Parliament@europarl.europa.eu

The European Parliament represents 450 mn people across 27 countries. But what should it prioritise? Eurobarometer surveys help to regularly check the pulse of what Europeans think. Check out the latest findings, country by country: link.europa.eu/TJB8hy

I switched from DuckDuckGo to Ecosia, after nudging by @isabel-arens.wsocial.eu 🙂 and discovering that Ecosia also supports some !bang shortcuts. Also Ecosia is a non-profit (technically a GmbH but 100% profits go to climate action). Also Ecosia is helping to develop a European search index.

The Stockholm metro symbol is like "Ⓣ". One of the suburbs is Tensta, where there is a Tensta Gospel Choir. Here's their logo. Good job, designer!

First day of tennis training at Haga Tennis. Wish me luck! I feel out of shape, esp after eating lots of heavy Bavarian food.

Configured Bsky to be tolerable. Namely, I stopped relying on Following/Muting accounts & the built-in Feeds. Instead - made a List of friends (IRL) and pinned to top - turned on push notifs for a few friends - add muted words like "Trump" - made & pinned Lists for some topics - add foryou.club feed

Franconia has impressive (and affordable) food/bev options, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Like in the countryside, not even near a highway. My friend says these places get a lot of hikers, & they actually serve as hiking destinations. I knew Germans were big into hiking. Now I really get it!

One idea we (Volt Stockholm) have for after elections is to organize a weekly-ish dinner series, each at a local restaurant representing a European country's cuisine and culture, sort of a virtual tour of Europe. I started looking into this (because fun). But

Turns out it's hard to fill the list. There are of course obvious options for Italian, Spanish, British, Irish, Austrian, Czech, Greek, etc. but only 1 for Danish, and none for our other neighbors. No Norwegian or Finnish or Estonian restaurants! None!

Hello, Bluesky. I've decided to try to use this more, to post more thoughts and observations here and break them out of private conversation silos.

I'm in Germany. Upper Franconia, to be exact. It sure reminds me of Indiana (my home state) sometimes.

@gruber.foo Re "Aluminium OS: Google’s ‘Android for PC’ OS for Googlebooks", the bottom of that website says "This is an informational resource about Aluminium OS. Not officially affiliated with Google."

internet, AI, intelligent agents, neural networks, tablet computers, virtual reality… The 1990s are here!

this was not obvious at all. posting for others. "You need an adult to buy this. / We can't send a request for this one, so you'll have to ask another way" Solution: go to account.microsoft.com/family/, the child's account > Spending, and temporarily turn off "Require approval for every purchase".

I just want to enter a date in 2029, but it won't let me type; I have to click. And the click target keeps moving. If & when you mess up, it resets to the current month. (Also in this locale, the first weekday should be Monday.) Why pay €€€ to build this, instead of using a native widget? Sigh.

they priced the original v10.0 high because they didn't really want users, only developers; and making phone calls wasn't even working 1 month prior to announcing iPhone
