#Mainers, know and remember this.
... It was all performative. Murkowski isn't up for re-election until 2028, so her vote was needed. Collins is up for re-election in 2026 and her seat is needed by Republicans so she was allowed to vote no on the bill. To make Collins look like a moderate who isn't afraid to buck her party. All BS/2
Once upon a time, a #Maine mom put the fear of God into the staff at the @newyorker.com. @rayrouthier.bsky.social on how a strongly worded letter from Edna St. Vincent Millay's mother was the genesis of the magazine's #factchecking department. www.pressherald.com?p=7469341&uu...

“The League’s commitment to inclusivity, its willingness to break boundaries, is clearly one of its superpowers" My latest for Antiques and The Arts Weekly, on the capstone 150th anniversary show at the Art Students League of New York. bit.ly/4dzS4Qq
Shame on you, Browns. After what this city has done for you. Good luck filling an airplane hangar in suburbia. The Brook Park Browns, what a legacy 🙄
"What We Know, What We Wish: Maine Statehood, Historical Commemoration, and the Urgency of Public History"—including my very transgressive chapter—will be published next month by @umasspress.bsky.social ! bit.ly/44PFo5O
It's been fully six years in the making. Amazing work by editors Liam Riordan and Richard Judd of the @umaine.bsky.social history department to bring this to print despite COVID and...everything else. Can't wait to hold it my hands!
On FB, I'm watching in real time as someone I once thought of as an ally gets steadily radicalized (reactionalized?). Truly; she's chosen *this* moment. She's "gender critical" and thinks anyone who isn't has been "brainwashed" by mainstream media. She recommends we watch more Fox News. God help us.

Important thread. Federal grants are contracts, and this is nakedly illegal.
Groups across the country have received letters notifying them that their grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities have been canceled, raising alarms about serious harm to museums, historical sites, and a wide range of community projects.

Every single university president should be asked, in public, why they are not speaking out this way to support all the students currently detained without due process, and all those terrified that they will be next, on every campus in this country. Yes, including Columbia's acting president.

Today, April 2, President Kumar at Tufts issued a University Declaration for Rümeysa Öztürk. "The University seeks relief so that Ms. Öztürk is released without delay so that she can return to complete her studies and finish her degree at Tufts University."
“Based on everything we know and have shared here, the University seeks relief so that Ms. Öztürk is released without delay so that she can return to complete her studies and finish her degree at Tufts University.” Proud of my grad school alma mater today. bit.ly/4jeXIcg

Well, this is very much in line with the current national ethos that leadership = wholesale destruction. Good luck with your capital campaign, you fearless disruptors (/s), and with your legacy. bit.ly/3FRaUpy
If anything can give us hope these days, it's Monhegan Island's story of resilience. Proud to share my Bowdoin Magazine story on the "Monhegan Wildlands" exhibition at the @bowdoin-college.bsky.social Museum of Art, traveling this summer to the Monhegan Museum. www.bowdoin.edu/news/2025/04...

Link in first comment. So much for free-speech absolutism, eh?

I just found out about this forthcoming title from Adrienne L. Childs, whose work I deeply admire. I love it when great writers take on the decorative arts--and this looks like a fascinating subject! Available for preorder now. yalebooks.yale.edu/book/9780300...

That reporter really looked at the president of a country being battered by an invading force and asked “but what was he wearing”
This is a must-read. "The two parties are unconsciously regarded as akin to a husband and wife in a traditional marriage in which it's the job of the wife to placate and soothe the husband and help him realize his goals or be held responsible for his outbursts and outrages."
I was so hopeful when Bezos bought the Post. I thought, if anyone can fix newspapers and figure out how they can make money again, it's the Amazon guy. It turns out that wasn't actually what he wanted at all.
Bezos is not acting out of fear. He is participating in a political project that benefits him. This distinction is important.
