prob. the one & only time I’ll say this in a post of this style, (text-furious essay screenshot? never have I ever) h/t to @dceiver.bsky.social & @volts.wtf for context thread nested below. @gilduran.com mentioned for opening the door If you know what an AAE Wingman is, you were there about.me/JSto

they are also hastening the ends of all of these businesses because they don’t know what they’re doing

was thinking of switching webhosts & since this story leaked this week I have been looking at which of the recommended hosts patches, puts out some kind of notice to customers, etc. (mine has not informed us even though I emailed them immediately) so that I could switch there. I’ve seen zero do it!

wrote about "Black October," the PHP vulnerability, and the AI-fueled dread and panic I'm seeing among almost all of the cybersecurity experts I've ever known. I think people w/ LLMs are brute forcing software the same way they brute forced social media w/ slop www.404media.co/php2shell-bl...

Helen Branswell was a crucial touchstone for me from her first wary post to when rising danger became apparent, along with @carlbergstrom.com. Both published generously on Twitter, answered crucial public health questions. They are why I was ready early on and safe www.nytimes.com/2026/10/17/h... 🕊️

nytimes.comA Reporter Who Saw Covid Coming Has DiedHelen Branswell recognized the threat of the pandemic ahead of the vast majority of journalists and even medical experts. She was 69.

wild b/c was a known thing re @nytopinion.nytimes.com if you were a media analyst/expert you couldn’t include any critique of the NYT (so many ppl didn’t submit). We used to reg critique on Twitter. I could red pen NYT’s front page rhetoric history alone for hours Give @jayrosen.bsky.social this mic

Anil Dash@anildash.com

As I have said for years, the NYT is just Facebook. Same ratcheting effect pushing “moderates” right, same delegation of all editorial authority to fascists who game things by falsely claiming they’re being silenced. Same use of text content to support their actual monetization elsewhere.

Isn’t preventing this why we got into the craft? […]I found Liliya Velyka, a 28-year-old book blogger, raking through the smouldering ruins, seeing if anything could be saved. She clutched a soaking copy of a sci-fi novel. "Books are saving us and losing this is like losing our hearts," she says.

I don't know what everyone's complaining about. Just go to settings > features > worms, then change the "worms pouring out of my phone" toggle from "yes" to "maybe later"

You’re not going to believe this: we already do this. ex Geoffrey Owens hosts a party on Shakespeare’s bday. Lo! Tomes all around & when people clink their glass with a fork or whatever, two people must read a scene (or one a monologue). Mix of actors & casuals, & SO FUN @emilynussbaum.bsky.social

A karaoke bar but for acting. You and your friends get up on stage to perform movie scenes for strangers. Actually this might be the worst idea I've ever had. I'm putting myself under arrest.

Bruce: "Federal troops brought death and terror to the streets of Minneapolis. They picked the wrong city. The power and the solidarity of the people of Minneapolis and of Minnesota was an inspiration to the entire country. Your strength and your commitment told us that this is still America."

This is freaking incredible

Pru Madeley@prum.bsky.social

I hope someone draws this wonderful story about Tom Stoppard's Arcadia and the power of the arts to help us see things differently, to the attention of our Education Secretary. Do read it, it will lift your spirits.

I liked this movie. But I do like solid-premise single-location indie #scifi +weird films (The Man From Earth, Circle). It’s actually possible to shoot them($) & they are more like plays in terms of dialogue/character driving discovery/weirdness. Would be v fun on the acting side! Congrats to them

If anyone is interested in the sequel to COHERENCE, we finally landed on a story worthy of the mission. Unless the actors revolt, we will probably do it just like the first one, where they know their own character details, but don't know what the other actors are going to say or do. Like real life.

WE ARE COOKED. Cannot overstate. this is cool My move is still fresh but I actually do miss US stamps — Went out of my way for: Moon Landing (fave), Trek (although wished it were TNG), Le Guin, Coffee! (bought so many of those) and Women’s Suffrage designs Canada needs to up its game although… they do have a MuchMusic stamp now!
