FYI: if you follow me and I don't see a clear way our interests align and you also follow more than 1k people, I'm just going to block you. On sm I prioritize authenticity and don't hold with follow-farming. I don't want a lot of followers, I want to be myself.

People always say this and I guess I get it but... Attack of the Clones was the only one of the prequels I had fun watching in theaters. The space battles were fun! Watching Padme and Anakin dodge molten metal was fun! I'm not saying it was a good movie. But the action set-pieces were fun.

AOTC was easily the worst star wars movie until rise of skywalker and this has been the critical and fandom consensus on the movie since it came out phantom menace and revenge of the sith have good bits, AOTC really doesn't

Me: OMG yes! The auction is done! Our generous and wonderful donors: You fool. You complete rube. We love GeekGirlCon so much we have turned this task into a Sisyphean effort. That boulder will forever keep rolling down the hill. You will never be finished. Givebutter is now your eternity.

Did we mention new items are uploaded every day to the GeekGirlCon silent auction page? Sure would be a shame if you kept checking back every day to see what geek treasures you might find! givebutter.com/c/geekgirlco... #GeekGirlCon #GeekSwag #SilentAuction #NonProfit

Does no one else find it extremely off that the main poster leading the backlash against You Can See Everything is a woman who admits that she hasn't actually seen the movie? She's a talented writer and researcher but also, her entire campaign is based on vibes. She hasn't seen the movie!

What? A fantastic silent auction?! Put together by some of the smartest, most talented, clever, beautiful people to have ever walked the Earth? Filled with amazing one of a kind items you can only find here? Everyone's saying it. It must be true.

GeekGirlCon@geekgirlcon.bsky.social

I have listened to countless director interviews, director commentaries etc and while they are always fascinating to me, the number of them that caused me to raise my opinion of the work after hearing them is basically zero and the number of times the opposite happened is def not zero.

I unironically love this album and still listen to it once a year w no skips. Truly excellent boutique indie rock.

in high school my English teacher would put an inspirational quote on the board every day and once she wrote “‘every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end.’ - unknown”

I have so many thoughts on the Boston Globe article and will probably be making threads for DAYS about it. But I am going to start here. One thing the COVID Conscious community is not ready to reckon with is that people who support masking are JUST AS LIKELY to harass as the other side.

Things people threatened me with violence for: 1. We didn't require KN-95s for all people. 2. Children aged 5 and under were not required to mask. 3. We allowed eating and drinking in the building. 4. I personally didn't overhaul the HVAC system for the convention center. 5. Not requiring boosters.

And others who agree with them are simply not ready to deal with this yet. When you call it out and say "Hey I got harassed and it was really bad" they either tell you that it's your fault for not doing everything perfectly OR write it off as "people are scared and sometimes cross the line."

And before a single person out there says "Well all you have to do is have a masking policy" NO that is actually not enough. I was the person enforcing the masking policy at an org for 2 years. We had a fairly standard policy and I still was harassed. Y'all it was bad.

They are just as likely to threaten you and your organization with physical violence. They are just as likely to tell you to kys. They are MORE likely to threaten to harm themselves and then tell you it will be all your fault. However they do not threaten you with sexual violence which is nice tbh.

I see this as being directly related to public health being unwilling to define "community" or "partner." Which is also directly related to local public health not being able to reconcile and draw boundaries w "community" expertise vs public health expertise.

public health guy@publichealthguy1.bsky.social

this is why i get so annoyed when people call MAHA a movement. public health needs to stop ascribing to them power and popular support they do not have.

20 year old me was mentally ill and struggling with some really heavy shit. I am not terribly interested in what she would think about me now. Nobody should be interested in what she would think of them. We should all just be proud of her for taking care of her mental health and making me possible.

She wasn't particularly nice or decent person. But she recognized it and got her shit together and did her therapy even though she had shit role models for parents. I am sure if we asked her what she thought about me now, she'd say something shitty. But I love her anyway. And I am so proud of her.

Last thing I will say on this: 20 year old me never, ever imagined a world without a specific person. The idea that he would refuse to speak to me for 2 years and then kill himself was unimaginable. But it happened. I am here and he is not. It's astonishing what you can live through.

The entire reason I didn't watch the live action Mulan was there was no I'll Make a Man Out of You. Garbage decision by a garbage company tbh.

We’re approaching the end of the third round of the Ultimate Walt Disney Animation Studios Songs bracket, and today you have to choose between a popular anthem and a song about manliness. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

The one thing I haven't seen anyone mention yet: Women have been found to be NGRI after killing their children when in postpartum psychosis before and women are still allowed to serve in the military, police, etc. This isn't the first time any of this has happened.

NMBurrito@taberwest.bsky.social

www.reuters.com/world/us/dea... There is an incredibly deadly precedent for women being set here from a legal standpoint. If women are found not guilty due to hormonal driven actions, they can then be denied participation in a wide variety of critical roles. Police, military, medical included.

Sometimes other people live our worst nightmares. Acknowledging that doesn't make us bad mothers or unfit to be around children. It just means that we know something is possible and we can acknowledge the possibility.

The thing this week that has been bringing me the most joy lately has been watching the Childfree forums fight over whether or not Dolly Parton was childfree. It's my favorite type of internet argument: vicious, philosophical, and totally, completely meaningless.

Tim Curry and Dolly Parton have taught us not only that you should be bigger, weirder, gayer, and freakier, but also that those qualities are what people will love about you. The things that make you strange and amazing are the things that will resonate with other strange and amazing people

... Do men not want to be treated well in their relationships? Are they more willing to date someone who is hot and treats them like garbage than someone who is less hot and treats them well? Honestly that's kinda sad.

Community members who is a language other than English do not interact with LHJs because they know they won't get information in their language. We desperately, absolutely desperately, need to cut down on the number of surveys.

forget the thing everyone in your field knows and no one else does. what's something you think that everyone else in your field would find shocking, and people outside your field wouldn't find surprising at all?

I'm actually ok w people asking me if I am breastfeeding as long as they can be fucking NORMAL when the answer is "no, I tried and it didn't work out for us." Which nobody can be normal about it, especially during International Breastfeeding Week.

Encouraging breast/chest feeding is a public health initiative. It is important to population. You, random ass woman at the consignment store, are not a public health official. It is not your job to tell people you have never met before about the importance of breastfeeding. So like... Shut up.

Any public-facing article about “public health needs to do this differently” is inherently grandstanding, because that’s not where you share ideas with your colleagues; that’s where you have a pointed and loud aside to the public about how your colleagues are wrong, and not receptive to your ideas

All I want from society is transgender for everybody. What the fuck is even the point of living in the future if we're still allowing chromosomes to determine our gender? We have fucking science! This kind of shit is what the future is for! I don't want flying cars I want total self-determination!
