Need a low friction way to put the food I make for my family of four somewhere so I can document them in more depth later. Mute this thread if you don't like food; it is mostly for me. (but comments are welcome) Not a photographer, just someone who enjoys cooking. Anyway 1/*

My oldest kid is getting into greek mythology primarily thanks to this book series: Percy Jackson - pretty great reads for kids. (if anyone has other recommendations, happy to hear them. he's a prolific reader)

Biking around Halifax today was thinking how great the colours are. I love when the reds and yellows dance together, like in the attached (which I took while riding my bike so prob a bit odd lookin') I'm grateful when I can slow down and notice these things.

Clean house, turkey in the oven, so went for a peninsaloop bike ride to catalog all the #BikeHfx repair stations in my head. Also updated map with a location button + ability to filter by select categories, incl. repair stops. Nice if you need a quick fix on the go! justbartek.ca/hfxbikeparki...

I run thru the WSE most mornings. The (perceived) volume this year is incredible β€” daily. Watched ambulance struggle its way through the backlog. I try to minimize my driving. We do well, but can be tricky with a busy family. Many of these folks likely lack good (transit) options. What a mess.

My parents are visiting and my mom in typical fashion, instead of storing clothes and day to day items in her luggage, she stuffed it with European deli meats and PΔ…czki. Love!

Spontaneously popped over to York Redoubt for an afternoon of exploration and was cool to see how much this site is used by folks for a walk, play (bunch of kids were having a soccer match), walking their doggies, watching the harbourβ€”bit of everything Oh and there’s bike parking. 🚲

Earlier today my 6yo daughter did her first solo bike ride (as I ran beside her) from Fairview to the Mumford Walmart. It’s OK until you get to the shopping centre, and it made me recall the proposed redevelopment. I’d love to see that started in my lifetime. engagehalifax.ca/west-end-mall

8 cyclists at the corner of Almon & Robie today around 4:30, 4 of those were kids (of varying ages). Change is happening but to most it looks invisible cause we're free flowing around this city on our #BikeHfx wheels.

Also if someone who's way cooler than me tell me what's up with Carlos Auto Service, that'd be great. I am so curious. Is it still a functional auto garage? They are having a bike sale this weekend. I don't see any cars in there. Is it an artist's space now??

Yesterday the kids went to the aquarium store with their grandparents (we now own fish, apparently) and my oldest used our old iPod touch from 2008 to help navigate gramps. This is the way.

I have no plans to build a house but I absolutely devour books like this. An expert distilling decades of knowledge into 200 pages. Bonus are the wonderful calligraphy and hand drawn diagrams.

We paused in Fredericton for the night ahead of a longer drive tomorrow. Fredericton, you all have a very nice botanical garden. The bees were absolutely loving this Dogwood (second photo)

Was in Tatamagouche recently for the first time. Strolled through the town; cute, had pizza with the family, missed out on blueberry picking oops. Found a proper looking repair station, decided this is a nice add to the #BikeHfx parking map. Now to find all the ones in HRM (that aren't broken!?)

Black bean celery tofu thing inspired by mapo tofu but most definitely not mapo. Fried cabbage pancake on side β€” one of M’s favourites since having Okonomiyaki in Japan. Over rice.

Two nights prior. Some sort of lazy creamy parmesan spinach pasta with side of grilled chicken drumsticks + veggies. Lots of tomatoes + diced cucumbers being eaten atm.

We were discussing in the below thread the lack of repair stations (sadly, many are broken). New one in HRM up in Bedford! Will it last? Love the pump! Good location, though.

The IWK has probably the best #BikeHfx service station I've seen. How do we get more of these in the city? (spoken as someone who was fiddling with his kid's brakes today after school :) )

It’s my first time reading The Hobbit β€” almost embarrassing. It’s our latest β€œshared reading” book. I read much fantasy as a teen but as an adult it’s been mostly non fiction and depressing stuff. Having a lot of fun reading this with the kids!

Dutch Village glow up looking good. Bike lane, benches, trees (many among the stretch; hope they survive!), new pedestrian crossings. Hooray for progress

Downsides: Hour into the journey, only in Oakfield. We are now stopped for an expected 45 minutes due to a passing cargo train. I expected to sit on the train for awhile, and brought work with me, but my goodness. So much potential on the HFX<>Moncton corridor if we got our priorities straight.

Me just sending out to the universe an appreciation for whomever writes the daily notes at Canada Games Centre. Always a nice little dose of joy! (And motivation when you lack it?)

Initial red currant haul as I fight the wave of little fingers (kids) consuming them as they arrive. Thankfully there are many. There is a joy I get in picking these off the bush so inefficiently while the evening winds down. Slow time. πŸŒ
