Got this email from the IRS today. I don't know enough about campaign finance law to know whether or not this is illegal but it's sure sleazy as shit. I'm sure it landing one week out from the election is pure coincidence

It is objectively hilarious that the last two Brewers home runs in the postseason have come from Sal Frelick and David Hamilton. Postseason baseball is wild.

SAL FRELICK WITH THE BIGGEST SWING OF HIS LIFE

Potato chips. Kids today will never understand the mediocrity of the pre-kettle potato chip landscape

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Dems need to GTFO with these "Justin, I regret to inform you" and "we have bad news" and "it pains me to do this but I'm losing" fundraising texts. Want me to donate? How about "Justin, we're going stomp them into a fine mist with your money" or "I can't wait to start the tribunals if I win"

One of the reasons Ossoff is so good at this: unlike most Dems, when he finds a weakness, he HAMMERS IT. He doesn't get distracted by topics all over the board, he relentlessly brings his messaging back to what he wants his audience to take away from the debate

oh boy. Mike Collins is in trouble

All-time worst studio head? Def a contender. There were some truly terrible human beings in there, esp in the Golden Age, but at least they loved movies and not just money

The Packers' OL situation reminds me of one of those dynasty fantasy squads where a guy rosters like 9 quarterbacks but they're all like Deshaun Watson and Mac Jones and Spencer Rattler in the desperate hope one of them pops

Justis Mosqueda@jumosq.bsky.social

The Packers have 11 offensive linemen on the 53 and 15 on the 70. That's a ton! Some perspective in here: www.acmepackingcompany.com/green-bay-pa...

I feel like the phenomenon of group texts as a driver of social dynamics and confirmation bias is sort of underexplored. Huge swaths of convos that used to be on social media are now in smaller private bubbles. Would love to read some articles/studies on this if anyone has seen any

Apropos of nothing it was nice to see Marc Blucas on the new season of Reacher, a friend of mine knows him from way back and has always said he's a nice guy

Man, the hopes that Becerra wouldn't be another Newsom/Bass are souring fast. He's going to win and I hope he proves people wrong but so far, so 🤮

Alvaro M. Bedoya@bedoyausa.bsky.social

Gavin Newsom caved to that pressure. So did Xavier Becerra. And eventually, so did Attorney General Rob Bonta, agreeing to a weak settlement that will be exceedingly difficult to enforce. People want champions who are not afraid of rich bullies. Newsom, Becerra, and Bonta did not meet that mark.

Rich nepo baby (comes from tech money), conventionally attractive in a boring kind of way, has never been in anything but has a confusingly large social media following, can't act but hyper-confident -- if we're being honest, Tilly Norwood fits right in as an actor in LA

The Brewers bucked convention and gave huge multiyear contracts to Chourio, Pratt and Lara before any of them had played a single major league game and it's pretty wild that they may have hit big on all 3

I've seen a group of Burners on mushrooms successfully sync watches before heading out on bikes, I feel like the NCAA could manage to sync their clocks for football games

So what was that AI Clay Matthews thing? TMZ trying to be funny? Wanting to go viral? Or they got fooled themselves? The number of people who sent it to me thinking it was real is not a great omen for what the next decade is going to be like

The truly American way would be to call it the American Ocean West and the American Ocean East, like they do with conferences in sports, but then we keep adding bodies of water and directions until the geography makes no sense anymore

TRUMP SAYS HE IS CONSIDERING CHANGING THE NAME OF THE ATLANTIC OR PACIFIC OCEAN.

Okay so we just completed a rule of three for Amazing Humans Everyone Is Sad About with Sam Neill, Dolly, and Tim Curry. Can we start another rule of three for Evil Bastards the World Would Be Better Without now? Thanks

One thing I've noticed in the outpouring of love for Dolly is how many letters she wrote, and how freely she passed out admiration. Not only appreciating people but TELLING them so, a far-too-rare trait that I imagine came from being so comfortable with herself that she could freely adore others

There are other musicians who play multiple instruments, songwriters who write enduring tunes, performers who charm onscreen & onstage, philanthropists who change lives, and kind people no one says a bad word about, but very few who are all of the above. Dolly Parton truly was the best of us. RIP.

I've been lucky enough to have my family on WGA health insurance and holy cow it just got SO much more expensive. If health care's getting this bad for movie biz union members -- undermining the best benefit to a career otherwise mired in uncertainty -- I can't imagine how bad it is elsewhere

There are lots of reasons Apple TV is eating everyone's lunches right now (quality being #1) but I also appreciate that they follow a cadence for their hits and seasons start every year at the same time, you know, like a TELEVISION SHOW

In the conversation of "products that have become terrible" two minor but nonetheless annoying enshittifications are cling wrap and masking tape. My mom had Saran Wrap at her house and it's practically unusable (Costco's is way better) while masking tape is just a psychological torture device now

Gutting. William Orbit was my entry point into electronica and beyond his producing for Madonna (one of her best albums) & countless other artists, his solo work was groundbreaking and unique all the way back to Bassomatic and Torch Song. I wrote to his Strange Cargo albums for years. RIP to a great

What's wild about short stories is how long they can remain ingrained in your psyche -- I completely remember reading this as a teenager, alongside All Summer in a Day, which STILL scars me. Bradbury knew how to gut-punch, and wasted no time in doing so

Had a 75 minute drive in a car with only terrestrial radio to flip through in Northern Wisconsin on Saturday and heard "Jessie's Girl" three times and "Summer of '69" twice

TIL that Susan Ann Sulley & Joanne Catherall of Human League were high schoolers dancing in a club when lead singer Philip Oakey approached them to become backup singers even though they had no experience because he loved their style & look, so in other words the perfect 80's synth-pop origin story

Went to launder a new shirt and the tag just had a QR code which I presume directs you to the laundry instructions but I'd rather just ruin the shirt than reward whoever decided that was okay
