We call on the government and law enforcement agencies to take swift and decisive action to address and prevent far-right terror, and to provide support to communities at risk.

As we have stated previously, there is no place for hate, intolerance, or violence in our communities. We stand alongside those working to build a society where everyone is treated with dignity, respected for who they are, and able to live free from fear.

The scenes in Belfast yesterday, Southampton last week, and more recently across Scotland have been deeply distressing to witness. Events like these can have a profound impact on individuals and communities, particularly when they raise concerns about safety, dignity, and belonging.

Our thoughts are with all those affected, including communities who may be feeling frightened, targeted, or unsafe in the wake of these events.

We submitted - alongside many other organisations across the UK - our response to the Family Returns Consultation. 🔗 www.justrightscotland.org.uk/wp-content/u... We believe that these proposals are cruel, inhumane, unnecessary, contradictory, not evidence-based and potentially unlawful.

⚠️ This will, in turn, result in increased risks of physical and psychological harm, exploitation and abuse for these already vulnerable groups.

⚖️ As human rights lawyers, engaged in the day-to-day practice of providing immigration, legal advice and representation to children, young people and families across Scotland, we are deeply concerned about the Government’s proposals set out in this consultation.

📈 We believe that the overarching impact of Part 1 of these proposals, if implemented, will be an increase in children, young people and families facing poverty, destitution and ultimately street homelessness.

💡 When survivors are protected and empowered, societies become more resilient - and perpetrators have fewer opportunities to exploit. ⚖️ International treaties like ECAT and the ECHR remain essential tools in the global fight against modern slavery.

ℹ️ GRETA is the independent monitoring body responsible for assessing how State Parties uphold their obligations under ECAT, including identification, support, protection, and access to justice for survivors.

⚠️ This evaluation comes at a critical moment. The UK is de‑prioritising efforts to tackle human trafficking, and GRETA’s findings highlight the urgent need for renewed commitment to prevention and survivor‑centred protections.

🤝 JustRight Scotland is part of the Anti‑Trafficking Monitoring Group (ATMG) - a coalition of 15 organisations working to strengthen the UK’s response to human trafficking.

📝 As part of this process, ATMG closely supports GRETA in each evaluation round, contributing evidence, analysis, and insights from lived and learned experience across the sector.
