As a former laser chemist I’m very aware of Ahmed Zewail's work in femtosecond spectroscopy for which he received the Nobel Prize. A femtosecond is very short. It’s is the time it takes to realize that RFK is full of shit.

Tell me again why this isn't WW3. N. Korea is sending troops to fight Ukraine. Russia and China are sending intel to help Iran who is fighting the US, Israel, and the oil states who are fighting the Houthis. Israel is fighting Lebanon and the Palestinians.

You see this sort of thing over and over. I don’t understand how, as a medical art, what a mess plastic surgery is in.

My feed is full of people encountering Susan Dell for the first time, so I'd just like to note that she used to look, um, normal?

More fun with #WNBA stats, Much is made of Caitlin Clark's turnovers and yes she led the league by a substantial margin but if you plot assists to turnovers its clear that the top passers commit the most turnovers - risk and reward

A look at an anti-correlated data set, total rebounds vs. 3 pointers per game. Only Jonquel Jones can be found in the top 10% in both categories. A big (no pun intended) reason for NY's win over Minnesota in the playoffs where she took away Olivia Miles' drives to the basket

#WNBA final stats for this year from basketball-reference.com. Here plotting per game points and assists where I've labeled only the names of players in the top 10% in both categories.

One thing Trump and A.I. have in common are hallucinations

Trump has to be is aware of his rapidly diminishing cognitive capacity (never high to begin with) but he doesn't accept it. And while he can't fight it he can pretend it's not happening and the dementia allows him to believe he is hiding it. www.aol.com/articles/don...

Officials in Pennsylvania reported a third measles-related death this weekend. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro and Trump administration officials, including HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., have clashed over measles reporting this year.

In the movie Idiocracy the hero awakens to a future so incredibly moronic that he's easily the most intelligent person alive. I'm pretty sure he woke up in 2016.

#WNBA Of course coaches give the most minutes to their best players. I've plotted min. per game stats in 5 min. bins and the points per min. generated by each group. No one will be surprised that those getting the most minutes also generate the most points per min but note the jump at the end.

credit basketball-reference.com for the stats. Here's a list of the warriors averaging over 35 minutes per game. It's not all about points of course, playing the point, rebounds and defense also garners minutes.

The infant who died of measles in Pa was too young to have been vaccinated. But the freedumb folks don’t believe in vaccine mandates and so this innocent perished from a lack of herd immunity. Sacrificed in service of the MAHA movement.

Food and gas prices are up while the Strait of Hormuz remains closed. The food we can afford isn’t safe to eat. Meanwhile tariffs are raising home construction costs and rents are rising. More crap than can be fit one one post. But it’s all better now that Lake Ontario has been renamed Lake America.

Lunch boxes are up 27 percent Notebooks, notebook paper, tissues and index cards are all up about 20 percent Scissor costs rose 14 percent Dry erase markers and glue sticks are up 8 percent Headphones, binders, crayons, colored pencils and No. 2 pencils increased between 5 and 7 percent

Pencils are more expensive. So are notebooks, scissors, glue sticks — just about every back-to-school item that families will load into their literal or virtual carts this summer has gone up in price at a time when American families already feel crushed by rising costs. https://to.pbs.org/4wxLT84

AI tells my the one on the left I can put in my stew and the one on the right will destroy my liver. I’m sure it’s right but I’m not betting my life on it 😀

My grandmother used to pick mushrooms, but my grandfather used to be a cowboy. Some family skills don’t get passed down as I can neither pick a mushroom or rope a steer.

The reason Trump hasn’t fired Hegseth despite his incompetence is that Trump knows Hegseth would obey orders to invade Canada, or Greenland or wherever.

Zero new NSF grants in sociology, anthropology, political science and economics. The agenda of this US govt is to stop documenting the society in which we live while they are destroying it. We will find other ways to track and explain our times and fight to restore our research funding.

Dan Garisto@dangaristo.bsky.social

Finally, this has gone a bit under the radar, so I want to highlight it: The social, behavioral and economic sciences directorate (SBE) has simply ceased to deliver grants to many of its subareas. Any topic not specifically OK'd by the Trump administration is receiving zero new awards.
