The best I've been able to come up with is layering two of my grandmother's quilts over the comforter on the bed to dull the feeling of metal coil stabbing my thighs and building a pillow fort behind me in a desperate bid for lumbar support.

I brought my folding camp chairs back from the house so that if there's a delay between when I close on the new house and when my furniture can be delivered I'll at least have somewhere to sit. I'm going to try using one as a desk chair tonight.

The couch is too shallow, too lumpy, and made of the same material as a child's backpack. The chair is exactly the kind of seat you would expect in a dentist's waiting room at one of those national dental chains that pop up in shopping centers. The "desk chair" is the fourth dining chair.

Speaking of, the dining chairs are leather over wood. There's nothing between the leather and the wood, mind you. Just leather and wood. And while "leather with nothing underneath" sounds great for a partner, it's terrible for a chair.

Drop a bit of useless lore! I have a 1" scar on my foot from an accident when I was four years old. It stayed the same length as my foot grew so what was impressive to show off at age five is just sad at age forty-five.

This post is unavailable.

Today in "slowly building a lab", my storage bins finally got here so I spent an hour putting labels on them and getting them arranged on the shelf. They're empty because the chemicals that go in them haven't arrived yet.😐

Technically only 27 out of 29 bins arrived. The two big bois are still en route. But the 24 smol bois arrived and that was the most important set. Smol meaning 24" x 8" x 7". Which aren't that smol, but the big bois are 29" x 18" x 12" so it's all relative.

The utter obliteration of smoking sections in restaurants when people started taking secondhand smoke damage seriously in the early 2000's

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

When I worked at Novo, I picked up the habit of signing emails "Regards". The Danish always signed "Best regards" or "Kind regards" but I couldn't lie. I don't offer my best or kindest regards. Instead I offer the exact same text that was in the first three emails I sent you about this, Lars.

We love all the tiny little bits of distinctly Seattle personalitea tucked around the tea house. Have you noticed this itty bitty framed permanent installation in the space? Our own personal Jimothy! 🦝🍵

Anyway I went to Dunkin today and added the unsweetened almond flavor to my coffee and it's the closest I've ever found to non-alcoholic Disarono. Gave me a placebo buzz.

I dialed in for a work meeting this morning and I regret everything about this because a) movers are packing the rooms across the hall b) neighbors are getting a new roof c) I put my headphones somewhere so they wouldn't get packed and now I can't find them *This* is sensory hell.

Currently I'm hiding in the basement while the movers pack up the living room. This is problematic because my only source of entertainment is my shelf of ttrpg books. I don't remember buying a copy of Blades in the Dark. Or Savage Worlds. Or a game called Bird Cult? And yet.

In fact, I have books for seventeen different RPG systems. Which is, like, a lot. Anyway I've once again fallen down the rabbit hole of wanting to run an Animon Story campaign because Build Your Own Pokemon sounds fun. Would I end up making a more fucked up Pal World? Yes. Yes I would.

I think the dude is packing artwork. Like all the artwork. Because I piled it up in the dining room over the weekend. This is also how I remembered I own a LOT of art. Which I knew, because I have more art than walls, and at least New House has additional walls to hang art on.

Finally got through to the right department with the solar company to transfer service to the buyer, only for the "person" I finally spoke to was a creepily uncanny AI.

My dream Trek project wouldn't even involve spaceships. It'd be West Wing But The Federation, exploring the political ramifications of interplanetary governance and the struggle to adapt to a post-scarcity society through the lens of a new planet joining in the Lower Decks/Pre-Synth Revolt TNG era.

The real joy of any franchise is something new and satisfying that nobody saw coming. That's what TOS delivered; it's what TNG delivered, once it got its feet under it; it's even what DS9 delivered. The next big Star Trek revision will be something that nobody saw coming. And it'll be great.

Season One sets up the challenges, Season Two sees New Planet finally stabilizing and integrating, just in time for Season Three to deal with the Romulan evacuation/Mars revolt to completely upend everything POV character has been working to achieve when a faction of New Planet launches a Brexit.

POV character would be the assistant to the Federation Ambassador from New Planet. They've spent years studying every aspect of Federation society, but now runs head-first into the reality of a government created by idealists trying to govern a galaxy of real people.

I've now worked for three* companies in my scientific career, and every single one of them has used blue as their official corporate color. *we're not counting the very first job I got out of grad school that was a "need to pay rent" job and completely outside my area of expertise

We're supposed to wear our official company Volunteer Day shirts to our activities today. The problem is they're white t-shirts with the official logos, and the material is super thin. You can see my nipples through it. So I wore another white t-shirt under it. But...

I also have an important meeting this morning. And I had to drop the dog at the kennel on the way to work. So I wore a button-down shirt over it. This mean I am currently wearing three shirts at once and living in sensory hell. I have entirely too much body hair to have this many layers on.

saw someone compare mamdani to goku and el-sayed to vegeta and that seems right to me

Turns out my upset tummy yesterday wasn't a meds issue because I was running a fever of 100.8 when I got home from work. Crashed hard at 9:00, woke up this morning feeling 1000% better.
