I realized I hadn't posted a Rainbow Rule slide on Bluesky yet, so I wanted to fix that. Treat others as they want to be treated. If you don't know how they want to be treated, just ask them. It really is that simple. #RainbowRule #TransPeopleBelongEverywhere

About to head to our seats. Nice to have a fun night out.

I told my partner we had the chance to grab some Kathy Griffin comedy tickets if he wanted, that she looked funny and was labeled LGBTQ aligned. Reminder: I have no life outside clinic, academia, and research. Anyways, he did want and we have two tickets for the 23rd 😁

I keep seeing a push (ads, comments, etc) for politics to be civil and that we need to get away from being derogatory to those we don't agree with. That framing is disingenuous. It presents both sides as being in good faith and that these aren't life or death issues for one side but not the other.

Yesterday while teaching advanced statistics Nougat (cat) chased Cookie (cat) into my office. Cookie jumped up next to me, meowed, then projectile vomited a hair ball and ton of food onto my desk and pants. Nothing in any of my education or career to date prepared me for how to handle that moment.

I'm still salty about a wordle a few weeks ago where the breakdown afterwords told me that while PRUNY (a word every toddler who's taken a bath knows) was a valid guess, it wasn't likely and USURY (a word only specific legal &/or finance career paths know) had been the only likely answer left.

Me (with severe face blindness) walks by my husband watching Goldeneye during a fight scene. "That grunt sounds like that one guy who couldn't sing [but tried admirably] in Mama Mia!." My husband, giving me a LOOK, "Yes, that's Pierce Brosnan." Me, "Oh cool." 🤷‍♂️ LOOK continues.

In my defense, shows/movies seem to be much less fun when it's difficult to tell who is who. I miss key plot points from not knowing people are not the same person, or thinking the same person is more than two people. I wish shows were like cartoons, and characters always wore the same outfit.

This is the 3rd time in about as many months I've woken up vomiting. The last time being 24 days ago, according to my post history. I'm having trouble believing it's just random stomach bugs. Wondering if I need to ask for a gastro referral.

I might be jinxing myself but I *think* I may have finally gotten an antacid / h2 blocker to stay down. I thought i did earlier but then just threw it and the ginger ale up 2 hours later. 🤮 But I think we've passed the 2 hour mark now without puking 🤞

Still not feeling great, but did keep some water based egg drop soup (sort of a grain free chicken noodle soup option0 down last night. It was the only food I managed to keep down yesterday. Woke up still nauseous, but so far have kept down a banana and some ginger ale.

We brought home a new family member today from the Humane Colorado - Leslie A. Malone Center. He's a bit over a year old and we are still deciding on a name (no family history, found as a stray, doesn't respond to the name the shelter gave him, etc). I'm petitioning for Rice-A-Roni.

Look at the lovely sunflowers my partner met me with at the airport yesterday. I thought it was funny, because I met him without Huckleberry chocolate from Seatttle. Between the two of us, we covered the flowers and the chocolate 😁

The last of this season's planting plugs came today, all native plants (Woods Rose, Rabbitbrush, Saltbrush, Sumac, etc). I repotted them temporarily and watered them. My husband will plant them this weekend. I'll be in Seattle for Antioch's fall Sex Therapy residency weekend 🙂

Got the results from the external evaluation after last year having to hire an attorney because the school kept failing to give my kiddo his 504 and then EIP accomodations, and then failed to give access over summer to make up a class he failed because he didn't have access to his accomodations.

Corroborated audio & language processing disorders the school eval denied (no surprise, long story but background is kiddo was born not hearing, developed hearing by 6 months but continued complications). Corroborated ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, and suggested an additional evaluation for autism.

But we still have a kiddo who was in advanced math and science in middle school and came into freshman year with high school credits, was failed on accommodations & so failed & had very low grades freshman year because of it, and has likely had his college options permanently impacted as a result.

I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

That moment when your cat has been weirdly cuddly the last few days, then you wake up vomiting and now have to wonder if it was just because she knew you are sick or because she knew you are dying. And it kind of feels like the latter 🙃

The worst part is that the nearly same thing happened almost exactly 3 weeks ago. So I am legitimately wondering if I just got unlucky with similar viruses a few weeks apart, or if there is something else going on 😒 Anyways, happy #caturday

Was thinking, I've been hungry more often the last few days (even very shortly after eating), but since I can't tell the difference between stomach hurt=upset and stomach hurt=hungry (autistic), I've maybe been feeling sick for a few days and didn't realize til I started vomiting. But Cookie knew.

I also have a bunch (~1k) of tropical milkweed seeds I'm not packaging up, since they will cause problems for monarchs in places with seasons. If you want them, let me know and I'm happy to mail them someone who lives in the south.

Corporations spend more than $1.5 billion a year on union-busting. That’s $1.5 billion they could have spent on higher wages, better benefits, and improving workplace safety. Remember: if they weren’t so scared of worker power, they wouldn’t fight so hard against unions.

People are exhausting. All I said was, "Hi. I'm Kalen. If you are queer or have queer family, partners, or kids, I provide affirming and trauma-informed mental health to people like you who are often navigating confusing and less than accepting social & care-scenarios. Please reach out."

so infuriating that trans people worked for decades to get covered by anti-discrimination protections in blue states but when major medical institutions in blue states categorically refuse to give us medical care they freely offer to cis people, blue state AGs just refuse to enforce said statutes

Girls sports are for girls, and trans girls are girls. I'm so tired of this, and sometimes wonder how so many folks don't get tired of constantly punching down when they could be making things better fir everyone instead.

This isn’t about being scientifically correct. It's about presenting a veneer of scientificity to legitimise a process of securitisation: constructing trans people and those who support them as a security threat, thereby legitimising exceptional measures and laws (terrorism) bsky.app/profile/kale...

Unironically and very literally, these are the types of measures and results we use in measurement and statistics courses to teach about breaches of ethics and what researchers should not do.

At a time when other universities were firing trans folks and failing all of their minority populations, Antioch felt like a safe place to work, teach, and do research. It is very disheartening to see it threatened at a time when so few higher education institutes are safe for marginalized folks.

I just spent 10+ hours reworking all the Advanced Stats I assignments, readings, and resources to use/include jamovi in addition to SPSS, in the hopes it will have less issues for Mac students. Next up is prepping slides for Human Sexuality and Gender Affirming Care. The most fun of times 😅
