My favorite wealth inequality video has been updated! Please, if you stumble across this post, watch the video. Everyone should know about this. Tax the uber-wealthy

Some of us watched this movie too many times as children.

Anthropic is out with new nonsense about Claude (or the collection of models called Claude) deserving moral consideration and/or be able to feel distress, so my inbox is filling up with journos asking me to comment. I've also got a day job, so here is a brief set of public comments on this: >>

I’ve seen at least one season of five of these. Yes, five. I don’t watch much tv, but this still seems low.

The kids in the Texas Longhorns student section understand what America is better than Bo French ever will. And a political movement that looks at those beaming faces and sees a threat has told you everything you need to know about what’s actually in its heart. (Link below)

I’m finishing up reading (via audiobook, 60 hours’ worth) The Power Broker, published in 1974, about Robert Moses, who nearly single-handedly remade New York City. It is remarkable how much the book reminds me of the current president. 1/?

When this nation’s first president chopped down one cherry tree, he was honest and contrite. When the current president chopped down a slew of cherry trees, he did so in violation of a court order—and didn’t give a shit.

He threw hissy fits somebody tried to ask him what was really going on. He threw money/bribes at anybody he thought could be useful. He threw business to friends. He got people started in business with taxpayers dollars, and then never saw to it that they were paid back.

The similarities are just remarkable. I bet the person currently occupying the Oval Office grew up listening to his dad praise Bob Moses. I bet Fred Trump was doing a lot of of the things that Bob Moses was, just not with taxpayer money to the same extent. Ugh I highly recommend the book.

One of the repeating themes is that if Bob was told no to a project, he just went ahead and started it anyway. Once the demolition was done, it was done. Once the first concrete was in, it was in.

He didn’t care what sort of history there was, and whatever he was changing. He didn’t care about the people he was throwing out, especially if they were poor, or of color. He himself didn’t profit directly. But he used taxpayers money to play. He underestimated what things would cost constantly.

Farewell and Godspeed to a truly amazing person.

I’ve known Jack for many eons. He boldly and conscientiously serves the people of California 54th. He wrote the book on Jesus. I have no doubt that even if he stopped breathing for many days that he would be continuing to work for the best interests of all. He spoke to Mitch. Undeniable fact.

A reminder: the largely admirable nation the "Founding Fathers" announced 250 years ago denied the vote to all women, most minorities, many poor whites. It enabled slavery, forbade laws to curb it 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 If you're not a rich white guy and you have rights - thank a liberal

Remember: The real freeloaders in this country are the rich — not the poor or immigrants or any other group of people vilified as scapegoats. The richest 1% evade over $160 billion in taxes every year. The United States literally has yacht and private jet tax deductions. Hello?

This should have been an amazing summer. We should be celebrating 250 years of the great experiment that is the USA. I am sad because that joy was ripped from us. From my kids. It should have been incredible. Instead it’s just pathetic.
