Last week in parliament, I asked Cabinet Secretary Gillian Martin MSP what engagement she has had with the government's Humanitarian Emergency Fund team about increasing support to countries affected by climate-induced emergencies, and whether any funds would be directed to Nepal.

I also learned about the vastly different experiences of care for people in different parts of Scotland, and the fact that women from more deprived backgrounds are much less likely to attend breast screenings aimed at catching cancer early. This needs to change.

It was great to meet with the team alongside a number of women living with metastatic breast cancer at the parliament to hear more about what MSPs can do to make a meaningful difference to their lives.

Many of the women I spoke to shared how they'd had limited knowledge of metastatic, or secondary, breast cancer, before being diagnosed, and we discussed the importance of raising awareness among the wider population.

Awful news to wake up to today. New oil and gas fields won't bring down our bills and won't create secure jobs, and will only cause untold damage to our climate. We need a Just Transition now, and governments brave enough to end our reliance on fossil fuels

🚨 BREAKING: The UK Labour Government have approved the Jackdaw gas field. This a devastating betrayal of future generations. Jackdaw will make the UK even more dependent on the global gas market. This will do nothing to lower household energy bills and it is dishonest to pretend that it will.

Prior to being elected as an MSP, I spent much of my career working in international development, and I am a strong believer in taking feminist, anti-racist and decolonial approaches to both Scotland's domestic and international affairs.

This debate was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on what this might look like in practice, particularly when there is clearly so much desire across the Chamber to ground our partnership with Malawi in equality, respect and mutual learning.

Really good to see SNP members passing a motion at their conference calling for a comprehensive ban on conversion practices in Scotland - I hope the Government takes heed, and I am ready to work with everyone to help make this happen greens.scot/news/no-plac...

I'm really pleased that we the @scottishgreens.org have decided to leave Twitter/X, and the SNP and Scottish Government are now following suit. Well done to our Women's Network for advocating so strongly that this should happen @sgpwomen.bsky.social ✊ www.thenational.scot/news/2664005...

I am unbelievably excited by the diversity and talent in the group of potential Green candidates for the next Edinburgh City Council elections. I care deeply about representation in politics, and local government is poor across the board in terms of gender, racial and other forms of diversity.

The UK government's immigration and asylum policies are unfair and harm our communities. That's why Scottish Green Party councillors in Edinburgh have joined councillors from across the UK in signing a joint statement condemning the government’s policies.

Times are pretty tough right now as we face major pushbacks on all our rights and freedoms, but it was good to be in a room of incredible people at the Scottish LGBTQIA+ Sector's Parliamentarians Reception, standing together and championing LGBTQIA+ rights.

This parliamentary term, I want to see: ☑️ A comprehensive ban on conversion practices implemented in Scotland ☑️ Action to bring down the shocking waiting times for trans healthcare ☑️ Recognition of the rights of LGBTQIA+ families to access IVF and IUI on the NHS

☑️ Expanded support for LGBTQ+ young people to stay in education ☑️ The roll out of a national programme to address transphobic, homophobic and biphobic hate crime across society I look forward to continuing to work closely with the Scottish LGBTQIA+ sector to achieve these goals.

As the Scottish Greens spokesperson on Equalities and International Development, I am keen to do all I can to best support my LGBTQIA+ constituents and be an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community across Scotland and beyond 🌈

I asked the Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice and Housing what progress has been made on replenishing temporary accommodation which has been flipped to permanent accommodation following updates to the government's Housing Emergency Action Plan.

I welcome the Cabinet Secretary's commitment to provide me with more information in writing about this issue, and I look forward to receiving more details on the government's plans around funding and guidance for councils.

The Scottish Government are right to have apologised for so-called 'Tinker Experiments', which caused significant and lasting trauma to Scottish Gypsy/Traveller families. But that is only a first step in righting the wrongs done by Scottish institutions, and they must do more.

In Parliament, I asked the Government to set out its position on reparations for victims and families affected by forced assimilation, displacement and other historic wrongs perpetrated by the state, and what it will do to tackle the continuing harms facing Gypsy/Traveller communities.

We have a chance to make a difference in this as Greens, by selecting our own candidates carefully and with diversity in mind. When I vote, I will be ranking women, non-binary and candidates of colour at the top of my lists for each ward. #RankWomenFirst #RepresentationMatters

It was particularly useful to hear the perspectives of young mothers who have experienced the impact of poverty, to hear more about the intrinsic link between women's poverty and child poverty, and to discuss how we need to start telling a different story about poverty in Scotland.

Addressing women and children's poverty is a top priority for the Greens this session, and I look forward to working with my MSP colleagues, campaigners, young people and adults with experience of poverty to drive forward action on the issue. buff.ly/EPajcf2

I am appalled by the motion Reform has brought to the Scottish Parliament today, an abhorrent attempt to stir up anti-Muslim hatred, to make Muslim women feel othered, unwelcome and unsafe. It is designed to make people feel fearful and push people out of public space. We will not let that happen.

Ahead of today's debate, I joined demonstrators from Women Against the Far Right Scotland outside parliament to say no to Islamophobia, no to the weaponisation of violence against women and girls, and no to attacks on Muslim women, and to all forms of misogyny.

I love books and libraries! I'm a big reader of fiction, though I'm increasingly a fan of littler books and novellas particularly now I'm an MSP 📚 Today, I'm joining thousands across Scotland enjoying a #WeeRead with the Scottish Library & Information Council.

Reading for pleasure brings massive benefits to people, including reducing stress and supporting learning. I'm currently reading Die, My Love by Ariana Harwicz, published by @charcopress.com, a wonderful local publisher focused on uncovering and translating contemporary Latin American literature.

Ahead of Islamophobia Awareness Month 2026, I've submitted a parliamentary motion recognising the month as an opportunity to raise awareness of the harms of Islamophobia and to showcase the positive contributions of Muslims in Scotland and across the UK.

My motion recognises the important role of specialist Muslim-led "by and for" organisations in supporting those affected by Islamophobia and hate crime, and notes the important contributions of anti-racist education programmes and active bystander work in responding to Islamophobia in Scotland.

Ahead of Islamophobia Awareness Month 2026, I've submitted a parliamentary motion recognising the month as an opportunity to raise awareness of the harms of Islamophobia and to showcase the positive contributions of Muslims in Scotland and across the UK.

This year's IAM theme is Don’t Let It Slide, calling on all of us to take action, have courage and recognise everyone's everyday responsibility to address Islamophobia. As MSPs, we must respond to all forms of racism and discrimination and not allow it to be normalised.

In my region and across Scotland, anti-Muslim hatred and attacks on Muslim communities are growing, including on the streets, in schools and workplaces, in the media, in politics and online. Islamophobia has a disproportionate impact on Muslim women, who bear the brunt of anti-Muslim hostility.

Last week in parliament, I asked Cabinet Secretary Gillian Martin MSP what engagement she has had with the government's Humanitarian Emergency Fund team about increasing support to countries affected by climate-induced emergencies, and whether any funds would be directed to Nepal.

The devastating floods in Nepal were likely a result of the climate crisis. This requires global action, and I am committed to working with the Scottish Government to ensure Scotland is doing its bit to fight for climate justice & support communities at the forefront of the climate catastrophe.
