I’m amused and delighted that this talk’s topic is coalescing for @vbrownbag.com in the way it is, in the morning on the day we air. (Thread coming. 1/10)

And there are business techniques out there that can make that happen (largely well-known in the domain of software #ProductManagement). (9/10)

And then this morning, @mistwire.com released all the official promo and didn’t say a darned word about #EnterpriseIT or #sysadmins. He talked about user frustrations and product feedback. (7/10)

His timing couldn’t be better, because really, even if you are the user, you deserve to be heard – by, well, yes ... YOU, the coder! 😅 (8/10)

Two days ago, pre-consulting for another such admin team led me to say: “You know, I’m doing a podcast about this Wednesday night. About how operations work so often constrains your options that the sky hasn’t been the limit to what you can theoretically invent. (5/10)

"So most admins haven’t had the chance to spend years thinking about code in a 'product' mindset with software development lifecycles. "Oh. Hey. "I should probably find a way to slip that into my talk.” (6/10)

My initial audience was enterprise employees whose “customers” are all their own in-house colleagues, and who simply wanted to write code for themselves and their teams, to “automate the boring stuff” about their own jobs. I even marketed the talk with the hashtag #sysadmin in every post. (3/10)

The “griping” I had in mind–which seemed to be a key to unlocking LLM assistance with requirements analysis–was, initially, frustrations about the process of teamwork itself. LLMs can transform your secret complaints about your colleagues and bosses into roadmaps for useful automation code. (4/10)

I brought my "Griping as a Service" talk to @vbrownbag.com, a podcast with IT systems administration roots, because I came up with these ideas while helping #ITOperations administrators plan #InfrastructureAsCode modernization initiatives. (2/10)

Hey @mistwire.com, we're awful and it's all our fault! Wait, that can't be right. ( #LLM to the rescue... ) Much better! Emotions can run high in tech; come to "Griping as a Service" on @vbrownbag.com to make them your coding superpower. 8:30-9:30PM US Eastern, in just 2 DAYS! (Wed. 10/14/26)

Luckily, Linus Torvalds and I aren't speaking at @cncf.io's Minneapolis #OSSummit in the same timeslot, so you can catch us BOTH -- lucky you! 😉 "Tiny Repos, Big Impact: Level Up Through Open-Source Teaching" 🎓 on Tuesday afternoon Bookmark at sched.co/2LSqs to make sure you don't miss it! ⏰

I was literally just told recently that, yeah, if I wanted to make as much as the man talking to me by doing the same job as him, he admitted I'd end up paying for it in harassment from the environs I'd be in.

This post is unavailable.

Say @sahanjournal.bsky.social, story idea: Non-Euro-centric immigrant variants on the recent "Minnesota civic-mindedness" narrative. For example, I think I once heard a "wasta"-like cultural specificity partially blamed for Feeding Our Future. But have similar values organized huge protest turnout?

It'd be so neat, @sahanjournal.bsky.social, to learn about Somali, Hmong, Honduran, Liberian, etc. cultural contributions to civic organizing/mobilization / Minnesota Miracles (even if the impacts might mostly be visible in-community; that totally counts too; we all do better when we all do better).

You are up to date.
