The history behind Question 3 on our Virginia ballot is worth knowing. In 1901-02, Virginia rewrote its constitution to purposefully shrink the Black electorate. A delegate expressly said the aim was to eliminate "every [Black] voter who can be gotten rid of, legally!"

Today we're an outlier state, with an arbitrary system where the governor personally picks and chooses whose voting rights to restore. That system is ripe for abuse, and a federal court just ruled that much of it violated federal law.

Always a joy to visit @uvalaw (although it’s been long enough since I was a student that I needed a map!). We discussed ethical decision making in elected leadership and the students were incredibly insightful, inquisitive, and pretty much ready to lead themselves! Thanks for having me!

I’m at a recycling facility (learning about EPR ♻️) and this guy flew off the conveyor belt and hit me. It’s giving me Toy Story vibes and I felt guilty not rescuing him. You can make it Hamm….to infinity and beyond! 🪁

At the ACPS School Board meeting, another seat is vacant due to Dillenbeck’s resignation. They will need applicants from the Rio District. If you know good people or have questions about what service looks like I’m happy to talk. We need good leaders from all backgrounds!

Today, I released the Energy Costs Listening Tour Report, documenting those discussions and the research that followed. My conclusion: the proposed takeover of Dominion Energy by NextEra is not in the best interest of Virginians. Read the Energy Costs Listening Tour Report at vaenergytour.com.

Good times as a panelist at the CHESSA Energize Summit (Chesapeake Solar & Storage Association). It was held in Cville this year, which makes sense since we are a growing renewable energy hub - bringing more jobs and more energy to projects across the region.

From 2009 to today TFA & LEE have helped me teach, learn, & grow into a leader focused on service to others. It drove me to write legislation to boost accelerated math, to make educ. transitions easier for kids in foster care + more. Grateful to have a weekend to be inspired by my peers old & new. 🍏

Cville peeps, this is not a drill, it's a winnable campaign! Dems have an awesome candidate and the wind at our back. Here's how to get involved and help flip our congressional district👇🏽

Elk Hill recently expanded their Cville campus. They can now serve more students in brighter, healthier spaces. Thankful for the tour and to learn about the wraparound resiliency services they provide to students and families.

@creighdeeds.bsky.social and I attended the Justice is Community Summit. The real rockstars were the folks in the room who I see year after year, doing VERY hard work to create better futures for those exiting prison. Commonsense approaches to reduce barriers to jobs, housing, and healthcare. 🌅

Throwback Thursday…. (done on Friday because I’m a day behind like that). Tackling our housing crisis requires creative thinking and coalition building. I’m glad the Virginia Housing Alliance was recognized for their work!

Pushing for fed. preemption over our ability to regulate AI is hubris at best, stupidity at worst, especially when Congress has no framework for regulation at all. McGuire voted for this btw - tying our hands while having no plan for how to handle AI. “Smart” isn’t the word that comes to my mind.

Charlottesville, we’re coming your way on Monday, September 14. The Energy Costs Listening Tour is about hearing directly from you—your experiences, concerns, and ideas. Come share your story. Make your voice heard. Help shape what comes next.

It’s what I call yellow flower season 🌼🌼🌼on the Rivanna Trail. If you haven’t seen it, it’s a sea of yellow blooms near Pen Park. Want to explore the trail? Find a spot to start at rivannatrails.org/Map. Whatever you’re up to this Labor Day weekend, I hope you get time to enjoy the things you love!

I can’t recall the phrase…something about control disguised as altruism. I remember scrambling for a Dominion electric bus grant with ACPS in 2019. We got 2. The scarcity we’re made to compete for is often by design. The VCEA was being negotiated that same year. 👀 Go figure. I’m over the tactics.

Supporting small food-based entrepreneurs is one reason I passed HB 402, expanding the ability of home bakers to sell their food. Pour Baker is beyond that stage already, with so much more on the horizon - but I'm glad I can support them one oatmeal pie at a time

I took my boys to Dollywood this summer. Always wanted the chance to see what one creative and bold woman created in the mountains of Tennessee to give back to her community. ❤️ She inspired countless women to tackle life with joy, humor, and strength. She is gonna be missed 🦋🦋🦋🦋
