Lotta superb fairy wrens bouncing around the garden at the moment, but my video trap seems to only keep capturing this baby crimson Rosella. This is fine because he is perfect.

there are tons of legitimate criticisms of a folding phone that cost $2000 but i'm having a good laugh at "you will scroll tiktok less because of the aspect ratio" as the leading negative bullet point on an iphone duo review is funny. oh no my brain poison

Today I'm thinking about how Helen would respond to this terrible event. I know that it would be to reach out to those who need support and love, to lead with dignity and respect, and to remind us all of the inherent goodness and decency of Australians and the strength of our democracy.

Amongst all the awful news about what happened yesterday to Helen Haines, there's a wonderful quote from one of the bystanders who helped "It was the right thing to do and to show [the attacker] kindness and grace at a time that could have escalated from there" www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

Cracking short afternoon stroll through Mulligan's flat, a bit of a quest given my current state of fitness/feebleness but was well rewarded by finding Australia's least skittish echidna, a grey butcherbird, a billion roos, and just the right amount of sunbeams.

Been trying to work out if there was something living in my loungeroom wall this week. Intermittent tapping. I've even booked a pest guy to come out. Sitting in evening silence tonight, vaguely anxious for all the scary stuff that could be nesting or destroying stuff... I realised it was a clock 😐

Like an old clock which needs a new battery and is normally silent. So it's malfunctioning but is definitely not a rat or lost bird so basically everything is great.

If I ruled the world, before I banned sports gambling advertising (a necessary action) I'd instead allow it to continue for a period but insist on advertising standards that they could only show losses. No happy celebrations, just losers losing.

A cool thing to learn while on movement restrictions after surgery is how often I wake up and then immediately perform a series of full body stretches. My subconscious wants me to be in pain I guess

Forgot to tell this part of the internet that I did another half marathon on Sunday night. Was very mediocre from a run effort but fun to run through syd after dark!

The nurse call bell in the hospital I'm in plays a jaunty little tune. I feel like every room should have a unique tone like Japanese trains.

Out of all my health silliness in the last couple of years the main outcome seems to be that I have a standout favourite phlebotomist (and prob that I'm no longer terrified of needled I guess). My weirdest google review to date.

Second ever half marathon today, the Dubbo Stampede through the Western Plains zoo and along the river valley. Cracking day for it. PB by 17 minutes which feels like a lovely way to gloss over how slow my last 4km were. Saw some animals, didn't die.
