Note to self: it’s almost always “stir and recover, cook again for 1 minute and 30 seconds”, I really *don’t* need to pick it out of the recycle pile to check, sigh.

A new pumpkin has entered the dungeon! I ended up using the bobby pins that came with Donut’s tiara to affix part of Samantha’s hair, which somehow seems so fitting (Trick or treaters this year are probably either going to love these, or they’ll be super confused… there’s no in-between)

First pumpkin for the year finished… you’ll never guess which one’s next.

Halloween’s coming up, which means it’s that time of year again: pumpkin painting time. Here are a few of my favorites I’ve made over the years. This year’s theme will be dungeon crawler Carl :-)

I’m going to update my resume to say I’m good at ignoring previous instructions, but it has nothing to do with AI - I’m just good at ignoring instructions in general.

TFW when you are many hours deep in a rabbit hole investigating a nasty bug that you’re afraid you might never figure out (typecheck timing out after 3 minutes no matter what you do)… …but then you - the human - make a breakthrough that results in the AI coding agent replying “HOLY SHIT” 😎

For weeks I've been obsessively working on a book recommendation site aimed at making it easier to say "If you loved <bookA> then you might like <bookB>”. It’s *finally* in a good enough state to share it: www.linkabook.com Here are some examples of it in action, and how you can tune the results:

It was so good that it would be unfair of me to start reading another book while this one is fresh in my mind, so I think I’ll just start a reread of it right away.

It’s got a complex, layered plot with twists and turns (I squealed out loud at 50% in during a big reveal), fun and interesting characters, a unique spin on fantasy world building, a well built slow-burn romance, humor, and heart. It’s the kind of book that will become my personality for a while.

Writing patterns that make me start twitching uncontrollably: “It’s not delivery, it’s DiGiorno - and no one is talking about it. Let me explain.”

At my friend’s house for a bbq yesterday, and the friend said “Anyone want some more?” while grilling, and my bestie and I both immediately shouted out “please sir, some more?” So that’s how you can tell someone was a theater kid

Frog asked the agent to write a spec for the proposed changes. "There," he said, "now I can understand the changes without reading any code." "But you're not reading the spec either" said Toad. "That is true," said Frog.

Frog put the agent behind a DNS filtering egress proxy. „There,“ he said. „Now the agent can’t reach any malicious sites.“ „But we can allowlist github.com to fetch and push to our repo.“ said Toad. „That is true.“ said Frog.

I misread this as “bull shirt” at first, which is now going to become my favorite expression because there’s a lot of bullshirt going on these days

There’s a really fun thread on the Dungeon Crawler Carl subreddit about creating a bingo card leading up to book 8’s release next week, I loved it so much I made a simple site to generate DCC bingo cards with ideas from the thread plus some of my own: dccbingo.lovable.app

Note: some spaces are references that only make sense if you’ve read book 7. They’re mostly just fun tropes that show up repeatedly throughout the series, aka there are no spoilers for book 8.

Yesterday my goodest boy Baxter started walking in tight circles in an obsessive way - long story short, it’s likely he either had a stroke or he has a brain tumor that crossed a tipping point in his forebrain. He’s only 9.5 years old and I’m not ready for this to be the beginning of the end.
