White supremacy makes us poorer than we could be, and it always has- white families included. Even as White workers benefit relatively compared to Black folks, we're all made worse off compared to the real winners: wealthy employers, corporations, and grifters like Trump. New analysis for BHM ⬇️

NEW research from @kdoc-writes.bsky.social: White supremacist actions and rhetoric are not just a moral failure—it's an economic weapon. There's a measurable, repeatable historical script used to drive inequality. We've seen it before. We're seeing it now. 🧵

Meet Kyle Moore: TCF’s new Chief Economist! Kyle brings his expertise in economic inequality, race, and corporate power, with a strong focus on the structural forces shaping workers’ and families’ lives. Get to know Kyle and learn more about his work at @kdoc-writes.bsky.social:

In many ways, Anwar *was* New School Econ. Clear-eyed and fiercely committed to telling the truth about capitalism, and this discipline of ours that so often turns its back on reality. 50 years dedicated to shaping an institution and intellectual tradition- his legacy will live on tenfold. RIP

"Today’s disappointing report shows the labor market is grinding to a halt, marked by slow hiring and declining real wages that leave workers with very little leverage,” said Kyle Moore, chief economist at The Century Foundation."

The September jobs report dealt Trump an ugly blow with just a month to go before Election Day.

Tough economic report card heading into November...the already stagnant labor market is grinding to a halt 😮‍💨 Slow hiring, real wages falling, and all this on top of a growing pile of household debt. There's only so much uncertainty + erratic policy the economy can take...

Proud to be joining up as Chief Economist at The Century Foundation- I want to continue to help to give people a vaccine for bad thinking about racial disparities. If folks have questions about building a progressive vision for our economy hit me up, let me know. Let's do better together!

Including the value of health insurance in our assessment of poverty shows even greater disparities. @icidmartinez.bsky.social and I discuss a new measure introduced by Census that does just that, and show how valuable the ACA premium subsidies have been in easing families' affordability woes

The "why's" are important here: Trump's attacking equity to make it harder to hold the government & corporations accountable for the harm they do, particularly to communities of color. But don't get it twisted, these actions make us all sicker and less economically secure 😷📉

Trump's attacks on equity are setting the stage for our next public health crisis 🏥 Epidemics do not stay localized to minorities, immigrants, or the poor; it is in the interest of the entire country to take health equity seriously, says EPI's @kdoc-writes.bsky.social: www.epi.org/blog/trump-l...

What do you get when thousands of federal workers are laid off, millions of borrowers' credit scores drop 100s of points, and billions of dollars of federal funding evaporates over the course of a few months? Idk, but I bet it starts with an 'R'

Remote work doesn't thwart productivity. It boosts focus. Government workers are 12% more productive when randomly assigned to work from home. They're more efficient where it's quiet. Most people aren't shirking from home. They're escaping distractions and long commutes.

Reparations? In this economy? Yes, in fact, and now more than ever. Here's the latest from me on why it's critical we don't let the chaos of this political moment cause us to lose sight of our commitments to equity ✊🏾 Why we have to keep talking about reparations in 2025 www.epi.org/blog/reparat...

What he actually wants is for Black children (and adults) to turn off their pain receptors for injustice, so he doesn't have to hear them complaining about it. Nah. Stay sensitive to racism, it doesn't have to be inevitable. Calling it out is how we remove racists from the power structure

PatriotTakes 🇺🇸@patriottakes.bsky.social

Trump HHS nominee RFK Jr.: If you give Black children “resilience” then “the inevitable racism” will “bounce off” them like they are “the Avengers” because “they will be immune to it” and “then we don’t have to stop racism altogether, because we’re never going to be able to do that.”

On MJ: If you don't appreciate the audience you have, betray that audience and lose their trust you are ging to lose lots of them. i have seen this movie.

I sincerely hope all of us on the progressive side of the world are taking rest and restoration seriously as we enter this new era of...chaos, is I guess the best term. What steps are we taking to stay mentally and spiritually healthy and grounded, in and out of work? #econsky #blacksky

A handful of billionaires now have unprecedented control over banking, the food we eat, the health care we can access and, now, the information we receive. This is what oligarchy looks like.

New report update from me via EPI. Either president was going to inherit a fairly strong economy, with racial disparities that stem from structural features of the labor market. With the incoming administration, addressing any of those persistent disparities becomes significantly more challenging

The third quarter of 2024 saw further confirmation of a strong, but softening, overall US labor market and economy. However, more structural change is needed to push through the persistent employment disparities that still exist across groups. #EconSky www.epi.org/indicators/s...

What you mean somebody put me in a pack, who tf said- OH, a "starter pack", I see I see. Carry on 😶‍🌫️😂 #blacksky

Belinda Archibong@belindaarch.bsky.social

Hey all, I created a starter pack with a list of Black economists and academics for an easily accessible list of folks doing research that we can all follow and cite #Blacksky #AddtoBlacksky #Econsky: go.bsky.app/RyKSzcb

Who needs economists anyway? Are we here just to caution folks against the consequences of bad policy, to legitimize the status quo, or to chart a path toward somewhere new and bold? I'd argue the last few years have shown us that if it's the first two, people really are not trying to hear it 🤫

You are up to date.
