Okay last #positconf2026 chirp before I take off for Houston: I'm going to pop up an unofficial "aRts and cRafts" table at lunch tomorrow (Tues). Come by to make #rstats logo earrings/keychains! Seriously I have over 100 and my suitcase is very heavy, please take them. 😝

Every year throughout the year I say "let's meet up at conf!" to people. I mean it 100% sincerely but I am terrible at keeping track of things. If you'll be at #positconf2026 and want to make sure we hang out in meatspace at some point, shoot me a message? πŸ™ Can't wait to see my Rfriends!!! 🀩

Things making me giggle in my work right now: - A debugging practice package using data about beetles - An activity to practice jacknife resampling using name count data about the name "jack" - Teaching about unnesting datasets using data on bird nests #rstats

On the one hand, the red card was a terrible call. On the other hand, reversing an unappealable call is terrible for FIFA’s credibility. On the third hand, FIFA never had any credibility, so whatever.

While this poem doesn't fully resonate with me today, it's beautifully written, and a good reminder to try to think about the people and ideals worth fighting for, not just on the ones we are fighting against.

With the No. 4 pick the PWHL entry draft, San Jose got its star. Laila Edwards, the first Black woman to play for the USWNT and the NCAA leading scorer from a year ago, fell to fourth on Wednesday and gave San Jose its face of the franchise | @mercurynews.com www.mercurynews.com/2026/06/17/s...

I feel like students saying "Thank you" when they hand in their exam is the same as Wesley saying "As you wish", except opposite message. The politeness is nevertheless appreciated. πŸ˜†

Last week my Data Sci students were asking us profs to assign them places on the "looks like a cinnamon roll/can kill you" chart. This week, in an attempt to overturn her non-cinnamon-roll designation, a student baked us homemade cinnamon rolls. Bribe accepted. πŸ₯°

Hey #rstats fam, what non-evil hex sticker printer are we using these days? I've tried a few alternatives to "that other one" (🐴) in the past but haven't liked them because: - I want die cut, not sheets. - I want pointy hexagons not roundy ones.

I love all of this take. Also "frustration tolerance" is a wonderful turn of phrase, and it sounds less intimidating than the one we often use in Education, "productive struggle".

#quarto blog + RSS question: Is there a way to exclude a post from the automatic RSS feed? (Specifically, I want to occasionally put non-R content on my blog but I don't want it to spam to the people who follow for R only...) Gracias in advance hivemind! πŸ™

Only one thing got edited out that I wish made it in: The part where I said, "Python needs to stop making hex stickers and get its own shape." I stand by that. πŸ˜†

Super interesting @wesmckinney.com insight: AI may stagnate Open Source - because users will be much more inclined to adopt software that AI tools can help them with, rather than newer tools that it isn't trained on yet. Kind of a "snake eating tail" problem as far as generating new training data.

We gave our Data Science students a project to identify which photos were taken by me vs by my co-teacher, based on a provided training set. Instead of refining their model, they are reverse image searching to identify the locations, and matching this to what they know about our recent travels. πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

Another week, another magical #rstats gift from Emil. πŸ₯°

I'm exited to announce a new resource about making slides with quarto and revealjs. This book is the combination of all the work I have done in this area, reordered and polished up There isn't a lot of new information yet, but this format allows me to add more easily slidecrafting-book.com #quarto

One final heartwarming moment from #positconf2025: dropping my students off at Tidy Dev Day! 😍 Three talented #rstats programmers coming your way, #tidyverse! Now back to reality - thanks for another beautiful week of learnings and Rfriends. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈπŸ’™
